2006 was the year that the skating world was expecting. 2006 were the World Championships of Sasha Cohen. It's heartbreaking she had to retire without ever being the World Champion.

Sasha had it all and could have beaten anyone if only she could have held it together more in the long programs she skated. Such a shame because her beauty and refined style of skating have never been matched before or after her time.

There are enormously talented athletes and artists in all disciplines who simply cannot deliver consistently when the pressure is on. Sasha has so many natural gifts other skaters would kill for, but self-confidence doesn't appear to be one of them. The desperate switching of coaches is almost always a trouble sign. She is so flexible, graceful and musical. But skating is a combination of mechanics and artistry. Mastery of only one of them won't put and keep you at the top. So sad.

Sasha had such grace, artistry, skill and athleticism, but rarely turned in a flawless performance. Too much pressure? She was so much better than many of her competitors and there was no one more beautiful to watch. She was one of the best regardless. I loved watching her skate.

She seemed to be so much more into character at the Olympics. I think she did better the Olympics BECAUSE she fell. She said it always meant a lot to her to finish this program strong. After starting out bad she knew she had to skate the rest strongly. Such a beautiful skater.

Poor Sasha, one of the biggest choke artists ever in the sport. So perfect yet could never put it all together when it counted most.

Sasha’s unpredictable jumps always had me on the edge of my seat. Her unstable landings were often like she had spaghetti noodles for legs. I often wondered if she worked on her strength training as much as her flexibility, would she have been able to muscle through the jumps better. She had such stunning positions and spins!

I remember reading prior to these Worlds, Sasha said she wanted a World Championship, and she thought that it would be easier for her to win, as her major competition wouldn't be there. After this performance, her coach, John Nicks, said that he felt sorry for her over her not winning.

Cohen is the best skater I've seen in my life. No one has hit the positions she has hit. So what she is not an world's or Oylumpic champion. She has placed in all of her events and has grown. She may fall during the events, but its how many times u get up that counts. She will make a come back during the 2009 2010 season.

she was a wonderful skater; just was not a good competitor. competitors have to be able to channel that nervous energy and pressure and use it to their advantage. if she would have done that she probably would have won everything she entered, hands down. but so many times she looked to be completely focused and then she would just fall apart, just tripping at the finish line. I frequently give her a hard time but I really do enjoy watching her skate. it'd be nice to see her back for 2010.

This is NOT about a dislike of Sasha. It is about clearly who deserved the most out of the others. Sasha wasn't clearly a favorite unlike Michelle Kwan who clearly was the favorite to win, but her injuries took her out so she wasn't able to compete. It is a shame that Kwan was then overshadowed by Sasha's success, but that doesn't mean that Kwan should be the one to be singled out or disliked in favor of Sasha. That resulted with Shizuka winning gold and Sasha, silver in the 2006 Olympic games.

Well, it was reported extensively during 2002 Nationals that Sasha twice purposely collided with Michelle Kwan during practice, and also Sasha skated in Nikodinov's skating path. Sasha denied she did that on purpose, though. I just never cared for Sasha's attitude. I remember during 2003 Nationals, Tarasova (Sasha's coach at that time) congratulated Kwan on her win while Sasha sat and sulked and didn't look at them- maybe that's just my perception, though.

People talk about how she is so special and has so many "gifts" on the ice besides the jumps--what gifts? Her skating skills are terrible. She's slow. She is flexible, that's the only thing you can say about her, but there are lots of skaters just as flexible as she is. There's nothing special about her skating.

    • @kimp7160

It took me the years passing by to really see this. Her approach to jumps are so wobbly and "floppy". She is tiny but doesn't look strong. Other tiny skaters are still strong-looking. I do still love how she moves to the music. I think she is quite artistic and had loads of natural talent but seemed to coast on that natural ability rather than hone it. I will never forget a Pro/Am competition she did up here in Canada and she was just mesmerizing.

Did Sasha only have problems in FS in her later years? Overall, I have seen her have a lot of good shorts at important competitions. I disagree with the inconsistency to a degree because she can set a good buffer in the sp. It may be bc I got into US skating in 2018, where she is so much better than the current us ladies so my standard is so low.
