Kimmie's competitive skating career may have been short, but she should be very, very proud nonetheless. To be a national and world champion plus an olympian is a career that most of the top american girls currently in the sport can only dream of.
A wonderful triumph for her, and even though she never reached those heights again she can still look back and treasure the fact that she was world champion with this fabulous performance. Well done Kimmie.
I get tears in my eyes watching this because I remember wanting her to skate well. She was such a sweet girl and I always wanted her to have a great career. I guess regardless of whether we see her compete competitively she will always know she was a world champ :). I miss you Kimmie!
He meant a bonus point if you complete each -type- of triple jump, which for ladies would presumably be toe, salchow, loop, flip, and lutz (since not many ladies are doing triple axels now). As it stands now, there is really very little reason to ever learn a triple salchow, for instance, because it gets you fewer points and you could just load up your program with the other jumps.
Good point. It might be old-fashioned of me to think this, but I picture excellent skaters to be well-rounded. I am not so sure about the current system, in which some skaters continue to set world records without ever mastering one of the "basic" triples (e.g., 3L)--which even junior/novice skaters can land... Rewarding skaters for landing 5 types of triples, in my opinion, would be a step forward.
Kimmie had the total package: Beautiful Artistry & Terrific Jumps including those incredible Two Triple Triple's. On the downside the spiral was just a bit shaky!
It's so bad that she sort of ended her career so early. And why nowadays nobody tries two 3-3 anymore. And she's still young... hope she keeps on trying.
Apparently, she is a lovely person on and off the ice, and I am so happy that she had this big win here. But I am not sure if this was the winning performance of the night...especially given her calisthenics-like artistry... She grew as an artist later on, but she had lost her jumps by then, unfortunately.
@rickram1961 I agree she had the jumps. There is some period where the women find it easier to jump - maybe something to do with proportion of muscle to bone mass. BUT, compare her to Michele and Sasha at 16. She is just not the finished skater. Holding the moves, tasteful use of arms, the line. She still seems the gawky kid to me.
It's not fair to compare Kimmie or any other skaters to MK or Sasha, those two R a freak of nature , a lightning in a bottle once in a lifetime skaters that doesn't come very often. But Kimmie is uniquely beautiful in her own way.
People are wondering what happened to Kimmie after 2006 worlds. I think she failed to compete and match with Mao Asada and Yuna Kim, who are both too young to compete to this 2006 Worlds. So when those 2 rose up to the seniors in 2007 onwards, Kimmie just failed to catch up. Just my 2 cents.
+bryronify It was actually injuries that took her out by the 2010 Olympic season. I recently read an article where she discussed this time in her life. She grew and developed quite a bit and I think this why the injuries happened. I wish we'd had more time with her. She could've been something. At least she won Nationals and Worlds and made it to an Olympic games.
+Letissia Scott Thanks for the info Letissia, that was just sad to hear. Although I still believe that she got eclipsed with Mao and Yuna's entrance, it would be great to know how she would improve herself had she not get injured to catch up. Injuries in sports are just sad.
bryronify I will agree with you there. Mao and Yuna were definitely forces to be reckoned with. I think even if she had stayed healthy I only saw a Bronze at the Olympics unless she upped her artistic value.
+Letissia Scott Sad that we can only assume due to injuries. Though I have to agree with regards to artistry and grace, particularly in this vide, her arms and legs feels so stiff and unnatural just by watching, though she did great technically which won her this gold.
+bryronify You do realized she skated two more season's after this (I believe she won nationals the year after this) and competed at 2 more Worlds. We also know it was injuries. Her wikipedia page has all the info.
I did not know that Kimmie had artistry. Was she artistic in the form how she interpret the music or did she not show enough artistry in a way that she becomes part of the program itself? Her spirals were a bit good, but not exceptionally good.
@@TT-ee4qp lol this one got hurt and retired at young age as well . her total score here beat arakawa's total score at the olympics? so why she didn't win any medal at the olympics?? i guess just one of those who can win somewhere else but not at the olympics
Michelle kwan won 5 World medals and 9 US titles, she never got the Olympics gold. However, Michelle got into the World Figure skating Hall of Fame and more greater than Shizuka Arakawa in the history. So, the Olympics gold doesn't mean everything.
oofahman She skated for 3 more seasons. She won Four Continents in 2007. She qualified for a Grand Prix Final that same year. The last time we saw her, she finished 8th in both of her GP events and retired due to injuries(she most likely got 8th because of injuries)
vistaprime Every skater deserves praise because jumps, spins and steps are way harder than you're silly mind thinks. It's not like skaters do these things in a breeze. Do you seriously think that Kimmie won just by pure luck. It takes skill. Seriously. Skill. Probably something you've never heard of.
Good jumps. I never liked Meissner's "artistry." Her arms look like they're backwards. Not elegant. Just compare this awkward performance to a 16 year old Michelle Kwan at the 1996 Worlds (I think Meissner was trying to emulate Kwan's Salome) to see how inferior her presentation is.
Unfortunately for Sasha, she fell apart at nearly every major competition. Sasha had the talent to be a great champion, but for some reason she couldn't pull it together - ever!
Why did she mysteriously stopped skating..especially after winning a world title...DOPING?😕...the only explanation I heard was a quick break to get prepared for the 2010 Olympics but she never attempted a comeback...Kimmie u need to be honest...why did u mysteriously disappear...DOPING?????
Doping is just the reality of most sport these days. Katarina Witt is suspected to have been on steroids.....who knows...why do you think Kimme doped? She may just have gotten injured.
+ronaround74 DOPING!! Must have been DOPING! Could not have been anything else. DOPING!! Who needs facts when it's so much more fun to speculate. DOPING!!

It took me 13 years to finally appreciate her skating.

She wasn't so nice in school. But egh, that was long ago
Wow! Freaking unbelievably gorgeous performance.
I was their in person and it was a pretty impressive and awesome performance
Beautiful performance! .. There should be some bonus pointS for completing ALL triple jumps.
She does axel toes on her triple triples but at least she does a real lutz!
The first Is clear, the second looks suspicious

Fabulous skate for Kimmie. I remember watching this....so deserving of the gold medal!!
Love it!
She's BACK!!! See some recent videos of her for proof!! And yes, She improved so much with her skating, I thought you'd be so delighted to know!

Michelle retired, Kimmie was coming, then Sasha cried again.....
it's a shame she never skated like this again 😢
Is that why it took 10 years for for the US women to finally medal at worlds again?
Lauren Brown It might take that long again...lol

Kimmie is such a driven young woman .
When she hit that final combo I lost it in my basement!!

Apparently, she is a lovely person on and off the ice, and I am so happy that she had this big win here.

That's why I miss Michelle kwan so much.
I think the problem with her artistry was that she had to spend most of her attention remembering not to overextend her hyperextended elbows...
heh I guess so. I still think it is not a good idea because it should be based on difficulty.
Miss Vista...I am entitled to my opinion as well as you are.
