The 911 GT3 991.1 is an amazing car. My 2014 GT3 was epic, and yes around 2000 miles I had to surrender it back to Porsche to replace the engine as you indicated but we were compensated handsomely for parting 2.5 months from the car. I and few Porsche owners lobbied PCNA for the compensation and most owners received over $11K In compensation….. But the 991.1 had also an additional hidden flaw of insufficient engine oil cooling at higher RPM but it only happens if you track the car regularly as I did and I ended up with some premature lifter wear at around 18000 miles and the car had to get another new engine but upgraded top end, this time with improved oil cooling at the higher RPM. Porsche made 2 other upgrades/ engines modifications, which ended up in the 2016 models and the last version referred to as “G’ engine worked extremely well. But again we lobbied Porsche again for additional compensation or some additional warranty and we were able to have Porsche to commit to 10 years power train warranty or 100K miles. I believe the warranty is transferable to the new owners but most people are not aware it even exists. If you are buying 2014 or 2015 model, make sure you get this extended 10yr power train warranty certificate, which makes this car a steal and amazing. Bargain, giving you a peace of mind while racing your GT3 and driving it really hard for a very long time. By the way 991.2 models don’t have this issue as Porsche switched back to mechanical lifters instead of the hydraulic lifters they used on all 991.1 engines. Final comment, the 991.1 GT3 is fitted with PDKs transmission that allow you to pull both paddles at the same time to place car in neutral. It also automatically goes into neutral if you come to a stop and once you press on gas it will go into first gear. So this car will roll back like a manual if you are stopped at an incline. Mark
Thanks for all the information. Do you know if the 991.1 GT3 RS had engine issues as well? I have a 2016 RS that I track and I’m concerned now that it may have some underlying engine issue.
@@jealva you are very welcome. As far as I know the 991.1 GT3 RS didn’t have the engine issues the GT3 had, and my understanding the engine came with the upgraded head and oil cooling.
So if I were to buy one (looking at some right now, cant resist the price) and the 10 year mark passes without the engine failing, tough luck if it breaks down afterwards right?
@@da-yh3uy just pick one that has been maintained properly and with full service documentation. If you are too worried about the engine, you could buy an extended warranty on car mechanical components. Usually these cost around $4 to $5k for 4 yrs, 50K miles. Good luck
You are correct but The car initially got the extra year warranty after the first engine replacement along with compensation then after some of the engines started to fail at Track and this time due to insufficient oil flow at the higher rpm, and Porsche made head and lifter modifications and replaced the engines on few cars, they decided to offer the 10 yr warranty to dispel any fear and calm the Porsche masses. Mark
Love Porsche....... I agree with you that in the current market it is hard to beat a 991.1/991.2 GT3 for current values. That being said with a destroyed back and neck the GT3 was to stiff for me. I bought a 21 Porsche C4S last year. Optioned out with over 30k in options of which comfort was in mind, 18 way heated, cooled, lumbar seats, complete safety suite of all options, upgraded leather packages ect.... I absolutely love my 992 C4S. Happens to be quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile than a GT3 as well but, does not sing like the 9,000 RPM GT3/GT3RS/GT4/Boxter Spyder 3.8 and 4.0 naturally aspirated 6cyl engines verses the twin turbo 3.0 6cyl in the 992 Carrera/CarreraS/C4S/GTS/4GTS or even the 3.8 6cyl twin turbo found in the Turbo/Turbo S. The GT3 is the Porsche to buy if you can physically handle the drive.
Mike I really like the style of these new videos. Reviewing supercars with your own style and twist is a great idea, without the need to actually own one. Keeps your channel still super car based while you are prioritizing other elements financially, great idea! I think this is a winning model to continue to grow your channel and increase viewership and engagement. Keep it up!
Have to agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly! Your video didn’t mention the fact that even prior to today’s crazy market, GT3s have always held their value very well compared to almost any other car in the class. Additionally, aside from the engine issue with a 991.1 model, GT3s are extremely reliable for a track car. Speaking of, I don’t think you’ll find any other production car that feels as well developed for track use as GT3s do. I have had the good fortune of driving a 991.1 GT3 on two separate occasions on track, so I’m not just speaking from having read other peoples’ comments.
@@kanervatie Connecting rod bolts I believe. I think that they let go prematurely and caused engine fires. That being said, this is very rare for a GT product from Porsche. More importantly, the way they treated their customers following this development was exceptional from what I’ve heard.
It's ridiculous, if some Americans really think, these "engine issues" of the early 991.1 911 GT3 at the very beginning of its life had effects to American GT3 customer vehicles! It only affected the first 785 cars, which had been delivered completely to European markets at that time! Two of these very early cars, one in Switzerland and one in Italy had an engine fire. Porsche reacted immediately and stopped delivery to GT3 customers, solved the engine issues and that's it! How is this episode so important for some Americans, who were never affected by these "issues"??? You better should've mentioned, that Porsche is a company, which has the greatest respect for their customers and was showing a totally transparent procedure by solving these early engine problems without any disadvantages for the early customers. Such honesty is something, you won't find with cars from Italy, dude! It's quite useless to starting this video with such a smartass talk about these very early "engine issues" after almost 10 years, because Porsche took back all these first 785 cars and replaced every engine with a flawlessly built new engine. American GT3 customers had nothing to deal with it, dude! By the way: every Porsche 911 of generation 991 has "cup holders". Every Porsche fan knows the "secret" about these "overengineered" cupholders on/in the dashboard at the passenger side, but you seemingly have no fucking clue about it... 🤣🤣 Which makes you look, that you don't have very much clue about Porsches, dude!
Finishing up my course, I hope to make enough money someday to own one, that or a Turbo S would be nice. Most people love the Lambos, and Ferraris, but not much attention to the Porsches! Great review!!! Hopefully by the time I get mine, the market will be just right for me to scoop one up!
Absolutely correct Mike the best sounding 6 cylinder, and the thing that really nails it for me is,you can drive it like you do to.e after time,it's so well made and so easy to drive.
Mr Purple is just Insanely good car., It has replaced my sport bikes better than expected!!! The paint is glorious in the sun, then looks extremely dark at night. I can’t say enough about the PDK, most people never talk about the way the transmission can dis-engage/rev out with a quick punch tobthe gas pedal, it makes going under overpasses a hoot!!!! The grip level is beyond comprehension to a normal driver. I can’t say enough positive things about 991.1-RS, Considering to get a 992.1?in UV is $18k extra IF you could get a PTS allocation. these sounds of a 2014 gt3 beats lambo,, ferrari, and other cars out the water. No car has this pitch in sound paired with insanely fast crisp shifts??? and for that Porsche will forever be the best sounding car brand in the world.
These cars have gotten cheaper lately. I don't even make 30 bucks a hour but I'm definitely thinking about getting one of these. This and the Corvette is the greatest bang for the buck you can get
One thing I noticed about this exhaust is it doesn't pops and cracks which I actually prefer. I don't mind a bit of it but these days those after market exhaust are overkill with pops and cracks.
Gt3 is one day in the cards to own…2 months ago I bought my ‘14 Audi RS7 and man oh man is this car incredible….definitely a supercar killer and with 4 seats at 4200 lbs it’s hard to beat
In today’s market $140k is decent value, but 991.1 only came with PDK and have the engine issue (warranty is not forever). I wouldn’t pay more than $100k which is what they were selling for pre COVID, and what they will be selling for in a year or so.
Hold my beer while I make this J-turn. What we are starting to see is a softening of the car market. Looks like Porache is taking another page out of Rolex's advertising book. Everyone wants a Submarina like the GT3 cars. Just like Rolex with Tudor, Porsche limits availability on the GT3 cars to redirect buyers to the 718 GT cars, which will eventually result in buyers still wanting the GT3 vs the Tudor. Brilliant becasue they end up selling two cars instead of one. Notice they are not limiting the number of 718 GT cars produced. Play stupid games with Porache and your bank account will win stupid prizes.
I love GT3's and Adam LZ's 991.2 GT3RS might be the best one I've ever heard (sounds better than his new 992 GT3) But there are levels to this. And imo, in terms of sound, a Ferrari V12 is in a different league. 599 GTO, F12 TDF are just out of this world with a godly sound from the heavens. Aston Martin GT12 as well.
That’s thé highest level of car engineering, period. Porsche engineering leaves nothing on the table, and make it drive so natural. That’s why it’s so satisfying. You cant not like this car. Awesome vid by the way!
It's definitely the best sounding **European** 6-cylinder engine ever. I don't believe in saying something is "the best" like overall, when there are several types/categories of that something, lol. I love the 991 GT3s so much. I wish I had the money for one! Also FWIW there are several exhausts out there that sound amazing and keep the stock valve system, so you don't get near as much drone as with a fixed "straight-piped" system like the Soul exhaust. Dundon Motorsports is probably my favorite Porsche exhaust company, specifically with their new "Mini Crack Pipe" exhaust for these cars. It has the sound of a GT3 Cup car, but still retains the stock exhaust valve system so it can be less obnoxious when you want it to be.
