    My notes on optimizing T:
    - Good sleep
    - See the sunlight in the morning for 2-10 minutes b/c it increases dopamine + T & E
    - Cold exposure (cold water swimming, cold shower, etc)
    - Excercise (e.g. weight training heavy loads but not to failure) increases T for 48 hours. Intense endurance activity first before weight training decreases T because it increases cortisol.
    - Nutregens - Zinc, vitamin D(3) and magnesium - Creatine can increase DHT which increase T receptors
    - Creatine can increase DHT which increase T receptors

To be fair, he does have a point. The body is complex and does not always operate by expectations and logic of what “should” happen. However, many of his claims are backed by studies that are non-mechanistic, in spite of some which are not. Just research a bit more into the latter, and you can decide whether or not to apply it.

I worked in a pathology lab during my late teens and wasn’t afraid of needles. I used to draw my blood often and test my hormones largely just because I was interested. I noticed a large jump in both test and free test whenever I would get very cold. This was back in 2001. I’ve never worn a jacket since. People think I’m crazy, but let’s be honest you aren’t going to freeze to death. It would also jump from tanning. Whenever my skin is dark, everything is higher. I always slept well and avoided alcohol. Also, spinach in particular. I would blend it in a shake every morning. When I would get lazy or ran out, I could see a difference. My arms are still viably scared from all the tests I ran lol. In my thirties my test dropped about 10% and an additional drop in my 40s. Stay away from alcohol, anytime I drank it would drop. Cortisol would rise as well as CRP.

Thank you, this is awesome information. I am a post-menopausal woman, so my estrogen level has dropped. I'm interested in hearing more about the relationship between cholesterol and hormones, and the way STATIN drugs inhibit hormones in the liver. My doctor will not prescribe any estrogen replacement therapy if my LDL count is high, regardless of the HDL level.
I am also an Opera Singer, so I depend and appreciate the estrogen in the lipids to keep my voice and skin supple and flexible (which is usually the point to HRTherapy for women, not hot flashes.) My sinuses and breathing are in really good shape (as you pointed out in this podcast) because the unique structure of (each person's) sinuses act as the sounding board to focus and project a bright, complex, and cutting sound which carries above an orchestra. The sound is found and developed by training and practice, along with developing the tiny throat muscles, rib and back muscles, and lungs. The muscle control and flexibility obviously reduce with age somewhat as the estrogen level, stored in the fat cells, decreases. But do they have to?
My questions are, how much estrogen is stored or produced in the fat cells, and would that be a burden on the liver in an older woman? Is it a trade-off, to not lose too much fat weight to keep skin and cartilage supple, soft, and flexible, or to become much thinner so as to not overtax the liver? If not the ovaries, where else can an older woman keep up her estrogen levels to save her skin texture?

In the section 00:34:18 Pheromones...If anyone wants to know, the correct pronunciation of Sommelier is "suh-muhl-yei" ("yay" at the end) for English pronunciation and "soh-muh-lee-ey" for French pronunciation.
In French, the word literally means "butler," and it's been used since the 19th century to mean "wine steward" or "wine waiter" at the restaurant.

Come to find out it was caused by my severe sleep apnea. 2 years on therapy with a cpap and I’m ready to completely come off TRT and restart my natural test production. Going to follow a 4 week HCG + 4 week nolvadex protocol for restart. I’ve added Roman test support (ashwagandha + zinc + copper + maca + d3)
    Ginger powder
    Tongkat Ali
    Fadogia agretis
    D-Aspartic acid (D-Asp)
    Prolactin control p-5-p (vitamin b6 )
Diet will be focused on hormone optimization. Focusing on healthy fats/lower carb/higher protein. Along with intermittent fasting.
Taking cold baths, plus icing the balls 2-3x for 20min daily.

Could taking the supplement Pueraria Mirifica increase cancer risk in a menopausal/post-menopausal woman? If it's as potent as Estrogen therapy, I'm concerned about it also increasing the cancer risk. I recently starting taking it, but now am considering eliminating it. I asked my gynecologist and she had never heard of it and had no idea. Her answer was basically, "I don't know; if it seems to help (hot flashes) keep taking it." Just a request / some minor constructive criticism and I will preface it by first saying thank you once again for creating this podcast and sharing this knowledge with the public. I have been a devoted listener from the beginning. I share it with as many people as I can and talk about it pretty incessantly. Most importantly I have experienced the benefits of several tools that you have shared so far and I eagerly await each new episode (I’m one of those who can’t get enough information) so thank you again.
Please know that this comment is motivated only by wanting to help you make the podcast as accessible as possible, to reach as many people as possible, to help them be receptive to the information and incorporate it into their own lives in whatever way they need.
I really wish you wouldn’t refer to Yoga and other wellness related practices as “new-agey.”
Speaking as someone from the yoga community, I try not to get offended, but every time you say it I sigh deeply.
You once said that you were trying to bridge the gap between science and these practices, and last episode I believe when talking about the NSDR protocols from Made For you touched on a very relevant issue: that the language of practices like yoga and meditation can be off-putting to some people and so unfamiliar that it dissuades them from ever trying the practices.
I agree with you 100% that it’s a major issue, and in response many teachers are taking steps to making the language and the concepts more mainstream and relatable for people.
The term “new agey” has its own negative connotation. I’m imaging the episode of Seinfeld when George goes to some wellness guru who spits in his face and says “you’re eating too much dairy.”
Referring to these practices as “new- agey” can make them sound hokey or even unsubstantiated when in actuality, as your own podcast is proving, they are anything but. I would say they’re more ancient than new age, and only now is science catching up to all the stuff that our community has been talking about for hundreds if not thousands of years.
We had the tools but like you said we were often lacking the mechanism or understanding of why the things that we do are helping.
Personally I am thrilled to have someone like you explain the why and validate the benefits of many of the tools that we in the yoga world employ (i.e. becoming more in tune with your own body and level of autonomic arousal, blurring the gaze, exhale emphasized breathing, nasal breathing, salutogenisis - my new favourite term) so that we as teachers can share that science backed info with members and non-members of the community and hopefully make the practice a little more relatable and digestible for people.
Our goals are the same - get the info out, help people feel and function better so please please try not to use the term new agey... all it’s going to do is possibly offend people who work in the field and make them less receptive the podcast, and / or continue to dissuade other people from trying something that could really benefit them.
Again I say this all with tremendous respect and appreciation for you and this podcast.
    with love and gratitude 🙏🏻

I find myself feeling confused or torn when it comes to optimizing/increasing specific hormones, partly because of the understanding that we thrive on an environment of balance and the possibility of increasing the likelihood of specific cancers when altering that balance, but also because of the challenge of having thorough hormone testing done for females that test throughout the whole of the cycle in order to know what you might want/need to adjust according to your baseline (I dream of a day when at home real-time testing for deficiencies and toxicity functionally exists for all purposes of health and healing).
I would love to hear from you about "adaptogens" and quality scientific studies, if they exist, on the possibility of using them as tools to encourage balance/homeostasis rather than increasing or decreasing specific hormones.

Been waiting for this one! My current testosterone optimization protocol consists of selenium, vitamins d & e, calcium/magnesium/zinc, ashwagandha, L-reuteri and l-carnitine l-tartrate to upregulate androgen receptor content in muscle tissue.
Edit: definitely adding a no fap protocol on top of this 😂

thanks for sharing: have you found that " l-carnitine l-tartrate to upregulate androgen receptor content in muscle tissue." causes any noticable effect?

@@felixwhise4165 absolutely. My ability to gain lean mass on the same amount of calories has increased significantly. There's a peer reviewed study about it on pub med if you're curious about the science. The caveat with all of this is however if your diet, training and sleep aren't dialed in, any further supplementation is useless.

@@johnnyregs2378 thank you. where you referring to this one? (volek et. al, 2002, pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11788381/ ) I just had a quick look at examine ( examine.com/supplements/l-carnitine/research/#skeletal-muscle-and-physical-performance_anaerobic-exercise ) and it seems like results are mixed in the literature.

I'd love to hear you cover the effects of synthetic birth control and it's long term effects. Women are told it's safe but there is a laundry list of side effects and some ingredients are listed endocrine disruptors... 🤔. Would love to hear the scientific truth of what the implications Truely are. I've read it can increase SHBG levels -> like what does this do over years of use... Thanks for all the great content!

I really like the way you link connect us with animal world, while the science of pheromones sometimes tend to be applied to the animals only (because we are meant to be something quite different). it is good that you see us just where we originally belong.
