I’ve watched this maybe 50 times already. My absolute favourite miniature ever. Thanks for all the inspiration. I’m closely following your black Templar’s project and keen to see what you guys produce in future.
As an ultramarines player who likes the actual aesthetic of them, and not the plain box art ones, I love this so much! Got my own box but ill be doing my 1k for April which is a different list, but ill still follow along!
Totally a fan of the longer video. There is just so much stuff that I think you take for granted, but for a newbie it is a goldmine to have longer time spent at certain points. Will be checking out your Patreon if that content is more like this. Thank you.
Really enjoy these longer videos. I typically "watch" them while I paint, so it's like I'm hobbying along with whoever is one, plus it's nice to not have to stop as often to find more.
Fantastic video Henry! I really enjoyed hearing not only the techniques used but also your thought process and approach to both this specific model and the project as a whole. There are so many pure tutorials out there, but we don't always get to hear about approach, inspiration, and overall methodology. Cheers!
It took me a while to get them (because they’re frequently out of stock), but I have to agree that the Redgrass Games clippers are fantastic. Very sharp & super clean cuts. I like the longer videos.
I really like the weathering. It's very light but it's there. A lot of people tend to go over the top on their weathering, calling it "grim dark," but this looks very grim dark to me.
That's a really nice approach you did there, blending scale model and traditional tabletop painting methods. Really enjoyed the video and got some inspiration for my current 40k project.
My favourite painting tutorial channel, i'm always learning something new, and it's probably one of the few things that realy motivates me to go back to painting !
Great vid with useful advice about a creative journey with a great result. Also, yes, for their cost, these kits (+ GW vehicles generally) one has to fight against a lot during assembly (before and without modding)...
Love the idea behind this project and your choice of techniques. The 30min length I think is spot on, I often find myself wanting more with shorter videos but conversely 1hr+ is a bit long, 30min is the perfect inbetween.
got some tamiya flat white based on your high standing of it, always looks like it goes on smooth when you use it so excited to use it, also treat my self to a nice new cult of paint infinity airbrush :D
Absolutely awesome H got a bundle of primaris marines coming and being struggling to choose a chapter from ultramarines, imperial fists or black templars. This video has helped me go with ultramarines As I’m currently doing fists for 30k and to do them for 40K as well will be a mission and black Templars as a fists spin off, I’ve painted a 30k dark angels army and lots of sons of Horus 1st company recently as well Best of luck with your project mate
Fantastic work as always! Quick question though, how would you go about weathering the decals on a dot filtered surface? Just use your highlight color? Or would that break up the mottled effect?
Hello Henry, I've just gotten into the hobby over the last couple months, and am getting into T'au. I don't believe you've done an army paint for a battlesuit ever, which fair play to ya they're not for everyone. I've been trying to use this video as sort of a proxy for trying to paint battlesuits similarly, do you think that would translate over in any sense? Any adjustments that stand out that should be made? I appreciate all your content, it really helps me get energized to go out and paint. your army painting videos have let me get 4 infantry squads done to a standard im alright with in quite a rapid time. Look forward to more content to come!
@@Sep141 I'm surprised we haven't done Tau. Andy keeps starting some and threatening to cover them over on Patreon. I absolutely think this video would apply to battlesuits though, very similar shapes. Best of luck!
Wow - that's beautiful! I do have a question: Where did you get the rivets that you added to the dreadnaught? I would love to get some to add for an ultramarines contemptor dreadnaught and place them on the legs like the studs of the space marine MkV armor. I love your painting videos, they have been a big help.
Hey man - love the longer videos. I watch/ listen while I paint so the longer the better. I think the appeal of your channel, for me at least, is that you guys produce incredibly high quality miniatures and show us how it's done, but you're also really laid back, approachable, and don't let your skill get to your head. So many other channels lack this last part, which can be discouraging for newcomers, and is just so god damn annoying. Most of us are here to learn, not listen to some geezer gloat about his pretty miniatures. Anyway, sorry, got carried way. More long form videos please , and thank you for all the hard work you put in!
Nice work man, looks good but if you want to look into oil paint rendering (OPR) and just what can be achieved with it, check out Mike Rinaldi if you haven't yet, he is one of the big names in military scale modelling and deffinately one of the best for his OPR weathering
Hi Henry, really enjoyed the video, just wondering where your decals are from? I’ve filed the imperial eagles off of 2 dreads and now realise I have a shocking dearth of white imperial eagle transfers 🤣. Also really like the outline only U. Is that from the HH ultramarines legion transfer set?
Thanks for the awesome video guys :-) Im very interested in trying the oil rendering you show off in this video but for Red (Ymyr Conglomerate) - Do you have any suggestions on which oils to use for Red instead of blue?
I thought exactly the same about those twin canons on top of the Brutalis. They just look odd. They are also on the Invictor and some other kits. They look out of place on ALL of them.
what kind of colours would you suggest for oil rendering a lime green? i assume a brown a cream and a green, but im not sure sort of how deep of a shade i should go with them
Hi Henry, whenever I try oil pin washing, I never get smooth lines....it always dries funny and grimey/blotchy. I'm using W&N oil and sansodor over a gloss coat. Any tips?
For me, 100% longer videos. Great stuff team
Facts! I’d happily watch a full video with zero cuts as a paint along
The oil modulation step is amazing. I think it would be worth its own video. I am an avid painting tutorial watcher and I had never seen it before.
I’ve watched this maybe 50 times already.
My absolute favourite miniature ever.
Thanks for all the inspiration.

Love this conversion. The aa gun looks so much better.
awesome glad you painted a Brutal Dreaddy.

Yup love the longer format , Thanks Henry .

Henry just want to say these longer formats are absolutely golden. Also will we ever get a tutorial for that base you did on Rogal Dorn? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks! Honestly I couldn’t tell you exactly how I did it, but it would have been very similar to how I did the white scars
Really enjoyed the longer form video. Would definitely like to see more like this.
i personally love these kind of longer videos, you should do more
This video is fantastic. Love the longer style.
I absolutely love that! With the new Dante model being revealed I now feel like it's time to try and do a Space Marine army that I can be happy with.
I really like the weathering. It's very light but it's there. A lot of people tend to go over the top on their weathering, calling it "grim dark," but this looks very grim dark to me.
Thanks. I agree!
That's a really nice approach you did there, blending scale model and traditional tabletop painting methods. Really enjoyed the video and got some inspiration for my current 40k project.
Thanks Jerry, I really enjoyed it.
really enjoyed the in depth video and the oil paint effects to get that beautiful blending.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cracking work Henry, I especially love the black leg parts rather than the typical silver. something I really liked on Andy's SoH contemptor too
Love the longer format 🙌🏻
Absolutely love the longer style videos. This is a great guide and inspiration for my Ultramarine army. Great job!
Thanks Michael
great length for a video
That oil filtering technique is golden, what a difference
Liked the longer video a lot - the more the better!
looks great! rivets and banners make everything better!
Yes they do
Brilliant work Henry, love the longer video too 👍🏻
Love the long form and the paint job. Really inspired me to try oils on my Night Lords
Love the longer format and this gave me an idea on how to paint my Wolves dread and tank.
Wolves were very tempting
Please do a Wolves vehicle!
I bet you could make killer blood angels doing this same style!
Absolutely superb breakdown and explanation of the steps. I'm super confident of being able to have a go at this thankyou.
That’s great to hear
Great video! A really brilliant example of simple techniques being executed extremely well producing a fantastic result.
I love the longer videos. Great work!
One of your best tutorials mate! Love the weathering and amazing result overall 👊
Thanks Caspar
This is such a lovely paint job and I enjoyed watching this while building some minis
Thanks for watching

Back banners! FTW!

Great tips Henry!! Thanks!!
As always, love the video and this doesn't feel long, there's lots of great tips as well as watching you paint.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video, I really like the long form. Excited for the rest of the project.

Good to hear

The longer format is nice and I love the metal on those claws.A bit too pale to read as Ultramarines to me, but still great.
Now I want a ninja dread.
Do it
Love me a longer vid! Keep em coming!
Beautiful work. I can only aspire to get to this level. The thing looks as though it could just move if you waited long enough.

Longer video is great. Even as a traitorous Word Bearer, I learned a lot and might give some of this a go!
Definitely liked the longer format, tbh maybe would have liked it a little longer on some of the weathering steps.
Any bits particularly?
@@cultofpaint the bit at the end with the worn away metallics. Mostly because I've never seen that before applied with the pigments.

Hi Lewis most is from ultras. The eagle is off an imperial guard vehicle sheet
Hi Henry, really enjoy your vids. Is the Tamiya XF2 the acrylic or enamel version?
@@BBTactics thanks! Always acrylic unless I say otherwise
Where did you get the heads for your marines? They look great.
Check out the build video a couple before. I Go through all the parts used.
Thanks for the awesome video guys :-) Im very interested in trying the oil rendering you show off in this video but for Red (Ymyr Conglomerate) - Do you have any suggestions on which oils to use for Red instead of blue?
i tend to pick 3. One of the colour the armour is (red) a dark brown/grey and a light grey/off white.
@@cultofpaint Thanks very much :-)
That little loincloth is comically small relative to the dread lolllll
can i please ask where i can get some bonding studs like those? killer looks on the dread :D

Thanks for the zinge industries rivets there site has lots of nice bits, what size rivets did you use ?
Some good stuff right. I'm afraid I don't know which I used specifically. I bought most of them. There's one sprue that is a bunch of mixed sizes.
I thought exactly the same about those twin canons on top of the Brutalis. They just look odd. They are also on the Invictor and some other kits. They look out of place on ALL of them.
Snip snip!
Why do you put a coat of varnish once the blue is finished? Amazing figurine
@@yanrv3928 to get a specific finish to the armour.
@@cultofpaint Thanks ! What diameter did you use for the rivets on your armor?
what kind of colours would you suggest for oil rendering a lime green? i assume a brown a cream and a green, but im not sure sort of how deep of a shade i should go with them
Hey Henry, how many coats of varnish did you apply for this project?
For the finish? Maybe 2? I just keep going until I like it. Just make sure to dry between layers and you'll get what you're after.
Weirded me out that it changed from a brutalis to a redemptor for a bit
22:54 Just a tad confused. Would you varnish before doing the oil rust stuff? Matt varnish right?
no you don't need to varnish before oils.
I’m curious about all the failed alpha legion attempts. I think I’ve got my scheme how I like it but I always enjoy looking at others.
The brush used at 14:50 and 18:50 are both DRY?
