    I went out today to find some flowers for Mother’s Day!! I bought a few plants to gift and kept one for myself! Found out by coincidence through my father that his mother, my recently passed grandmother, used to grow these beautiful plants all the time while he was growing up! I never knew this before. A beautiful full circle moment on Mother’s Day! Thank you soo much for making this awesome informative video!!! 💜💜💜

    Hi Sandy, I have just started my second collection of African Violets from a long time ago. I don't known the species of violets I just think their colors are great. I am collecting Violets and Holiday Cactus too. I am from Canada where the growing seasons are a bit short, but indoor the light hours are great. Now I am using my patience to watch them grow and bloom. I' m retire so I have lots of time for blooming I guess. By now you will think he loves color, I do enjoy color very much. Thanks for letting me see your videos. My photos are only birds and more birds Ha ha
    Take Care this week, enjoy your local birds George..

    I had a lovely African Violet that lived on my kitchen windowsill. It was in a self watering pot. It did wonderfully until I moved it five feet away from that window. After that….no more flowers. Light is very important. They do enjoy being evenly damp but not soggy. It may take a while to define that in your own mind but you will get it after a short amount of time. Self watering pots make it much easier.

      I am glad the self watering pots work for you but I didn't have luck with them. Still using the old fashioned way of watering from the bottom and having great success.

      Actually, I don't. My mother used to take a whiskey glass, put aluminum foil over the top, punch a hole in the middle and stick the stem of a leaf through it into the water. Roots would form, then leaves. When the leaves were big enough, she planted them in soil.

    Thanks for this video! When you get a new one from the store, do you repot them in fresh soil right away or leave them alone for a while? How often do you repot them or do you repot them at all?

    • @SandyOver70
      @SandyOver70  Рік тому

      I don't repot them unless I want to use a prettier pot, then just move them to that. Sometimes after a few years, I add soil at the top. Repotting seems to disturb the plants and they die or at least stop blooming.

    i find that Violets do like some sun . mine get a few hr's if direct sun every day from my den window and seem to love it. grow larger and will flower 2 to 3 times a year. south east window works here in new york. i have moved them around and this works best for me. some may differ . and a soil that dran real good also helps. let them get a bit pot bound that help with bloom. seem like if trans plant it takes about a year or more before bloom agen

    Hi Sandy, I'd like to ask you... can african violets can do well under grow lights. The flowers died off a couple months ago and there haven't been any new blooms since then. I can't figure out why because the leaves look very healthy with a number of new ones coming in.I use a grow light about a foot above the plant. Any suggestions you might have would be much appreciated.
    Ps. I turn 70 in two days.😊

I just recently lowered the grow light over my violets, so now it's about a foot above them, and I'm also leaving the light on for 14 hours instead of just 10. Hopefully this will make a difference.

    Hi, I’ve struggled with my African Violets and I think maybe I overwater. The leaves droop down over the pot and the flower stem is limp. I did read African Violets need more water while they bloom. Is that true? Otherwise my plants seem to grow ok. I’d appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks for your time. 8:18 pm 4/12/23

    Does this one survive?

      I am sorry but I don't think 15 minutes of sunlight per day is enough for your plant to survive and it certainly won't bloom. However, if it is in a window with light for many hours (not sun) then it should do very well.
