  • How to fell 100’ hickory tree then cut top into firewood blocks. After selling a truckload of hickory firewood I had to replenish my supply. So Mike and I went to one of my customers who I worked out a deal to harvest one of his hickory trees.

    Be careful there guys, heavy leans like this will cause barberchairs. Can be deadly, especially hanging around in the cut like that. Best bet is to bore cut and setup your hinge first, then hit the backstrap

      Naw, picture perfect, lumber mills would have been calling for that log!

      @@JoesFirewoodVideos its not hard, if i get a decent scenario to make a video ill show you one. Im far from a safety nazi, but that barberchair stuff is scary stuff to me, had one reach out and almost get me when i was 15 or 16. Same around here, mills that buy it dont pay much locally, and you have to haul the log whole there

    Nice work Joe and Mike. That's gonna make some nice firewood. Mike played games with his notch and split the tree but less splitting with the woodsplitter I suppose. 😎😎🇺🇸🤠💪

    These are my favorite videos an actual standing and full tree harvest, I cut my own wood in gaines michigan and we do 10 to 20 trees a year out of the woods plus I cut for a living but I have 3 ms 170s, 1 391, a new 462cm. I use the bigger ones to fall and cut the bigger part of tree, I felt Mike's pain over head branch trimming fatigues ya but de limbing with the 170 is a cake walk, there great saws maybe give it a try $ 179.00 and there like 7lbs.

    I am going to start by passing the trees that Mike cuts down, because he refuses to listen to the many people that keep telling him to simple cut the back cut at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches higher that the notch cut. He ought to at least try it for the next 5 trees he cuts down and if it doesn't work, he can stop doing it, but to be blunt, he is harder to convince, than that tree he just felled. It split like it did because of that improper back cut. It could easily have shot straight back on the stump and ??????????????? . Enjoy your attitude, you learned to cut that back cut and see the difference it how the trees are falling better and you are not getting you saw hung up, but feel sorry for his refusal to improve. Sorry to have to say such a thing, but I will skip his next attempts at felling a tree.

  • @amos3three941
    @amos3three941 3 роки тому +2

    had he cut that front notch straight at the bottom and then cut the front angle down and then come back to the rear and cut straight toward the front, you must cut the back cut about 2 or 3 inches higher than you straight cut in the front, that tree would not have split like that, it ruined the bottom part of the log if they were going to sell it, Mike needs to learn the proper way to fell a tree. I know he has heard that many a times, hope he doesnt live to regret not learning how to properly cut down a tree. There are many great videos on youtube showing the proper way to feel a tree. He could use some instruction and learn to do it before he lives to regret it.

    In this situation I would noodle the large rounds into quarters load them directly into your truck until your full and leave the rest for the guy that owns the property. The quarters could be sold quickly since they are uniform in size and shape and really look " premium "
