  • Performance Harley bagger builds just make perfect sense, a Harley bagger is the last Harley you'll ever have to buy so why not put some money into it? You can literally have it all with a Harley bagger, you can get sport bike handling, incredible brakes, plush suspension and still take this thing across the country loaded down with gear. You're truly only limited by what you put it into it. It's not all motor though when it comes to a performance Harley bagger, getting the right suspension can actually make the stock power more useable. Then from there we can move onto getting the power in the engine pumped up to where you want it to be!

    I bought a sweet used twin cam . With the money I saved buying a used bike, I sent the bike to Baxters Garage and had everything you’ve mentioned done one shot including LED’s all around with the front and rear cameras. This took a year to do during the Covid parts shortage era. I paid as he went. Very easy guy to work with. Bike came out far superior than a new bike.

      @@danfecke IDK as I don’t like dyno tuning as the bike will then always run hot so all I got is a guess as to hp. The builder says my particular build and tune will leave me aprox 110/115 hp although it feels like a lot more than that. I opted for 10:01 compression as the focus of my build was primarily dependability . HP was a secondary concern. The power comes on immediately . No need to wind it out. The engine sings. It’s was a 96 but is now a 107. He could have taken it to a 124 with around 145 hp but again my goal was dependability.

    I love what you said about buying a used bagger.
    Here's a good example, my friend bought a used 2015 RK 103 ho 17,000 miles and had Reinhardt true duals already on it , $15,800 payments of $350 a month.... A month later I tripped across a 2006 RK cop bike, full cam chest upgrade with SE203 cams. Came with a complete service history from the police department. I gave $3000 for it . Spent another $700 getting everything serviced and registered. No it's not exactly the same bike.
    I can throw $10,000 at Sam (my RK) and still be under what the newer one cost. The price difference only gets bigger when you go up in models. Not to mention the payments.

    On my '95 Electra Glide Classic I am working the suspension first since it has 97,000 miles one. I have a leak in the front air shocks in the forks, but it is probably just fitting. I am doing a mild build, nothing fancy. Then I will turn to the engine with a cam and slight increase in compression with some KB pistons, then probably port the heads or send them to Dave Mackie. I want to ride this bike for another 20 years which will put me in my 70s. Then we'll see from there.

I'd like to be working on the performance but for now I'm concentrating on the comfort features. I've installed: a Reach seat cause I'm vertical challenged, I installed 10" Paul Yaffe Monkey Bars, I just ordered an adjustable riders backrest, and I changed out Harley's worthless Infotainment system for a SOUNDSTREAM Reserve HDHU14si head unit, 6.5" speakers in the fairing and in the tour pack. But when I start to work on the performance side I'll probably start out with the Stage One mods. Maybe look at TAB 4 or 4.5" exhaust with Zombie baffles, and a nice Arlen Ness air cleaner or something else cause I really haven't looked into them. Then maybe change our the stock cam for a Woods 222 or who knows. I really appreciate the information you give in your videos, thank you. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber to the pavement. 🛣️

    My 96 road king just got a full big bore kit, andrews ev5 cam, 2 in 1 exhaust and I’m excited to ride it. Suspension and appearance will probably be next year. Older bikes need the performance while the newer bikes you can probably get away with not doing it first.

    Winter 2019, Purchased a 2013 FLHX. Changed spokes to oem mags, man-o-war compensator. Winter 2019/20 added legend suspension front and rear, True-Track anti wobble system, & DynoJet power vision. Winter 2020/21, added Dynojet Target tune module W/wide band O2 sensors, KromeWerks 2-1-2 stepped exhaust replacing V&H true duals. Winter 2021/22, replaced 103 Stage II w/SE 120ST Crate engine and S&S Cam plate/HV oil pump, Baker Grunge box OD6, Barnet clutch extra plate kit, and Thunder max ECM. Winter 2022/23. replaced oem SE 259E cam with Redshift 657 and HP fueling lifters & larger front brake calipers. I think I'm about done.

    • @GixxerFoo
      @GixxerFoo  5 місяців тому +1

      Upgrading the triple clam is where you really get serious, usually doing that you want to decrease rake which makes that front end a lot snappier. Then the front wheel size comes into play, this is why the first year of Honda's CBR 900RR in the 90's was a death machine for the inexperienced who got a hold of one. No rake to speak of with a 16 inch wheel, that sucker turned so fast and snappy it got a lot of people hurt.

    All that power is useless if you can't get it to hook up and once it hooks you better be able to stop it. To build a serious performance bagger you need to do all 3. Get the power, get it to the ground and be able to stop! To accomplish that you'll probobly wind up spending upwards of 10K! As usual I enjoy the videos as they are so informative.

    Buddy just put a Star 30/30 in there..great bump. Fuel milage suffered -a lot . I’m gonna stick with the SE torque cam along with nice headers/mufflers and dyno it. I eat miles in mine so it will give me a nice bump and maintain some mpg . Suspension is coming for the front. Legends Revo A in the back. Just don’t know what a decent match is up front unless Legends $$. If I can just do springs and improve the front I will. Just don’t know what brands etc.

    Big wheel baggers are dumb, choppers are dumb... finally the performance culture taking over Harley that started with FXRs, then Dynas, now baggers just makes sense. Once you own a bagger, just hold onto it and make the performance changes that work for you. It doesn't make sense to buy a new Road Glide every two years unless you just don't like having money.

    The HD ST.... The guys that have built baggers know how unperformance that bagger is... A real build is better off buying a standard and building it, hands down. My 16 SG is done, its been a long list, time and alot $$ NOT spent on anything from HD throwawayparts... BUT its humbled a few crotchrocketeers in the twisties and always a smile from my tire guy when he pulls my tire off a bagger wheel with no chicken strips.

I spent $1500 this winter and that was just to make it safe again. I think people either make too much $$$, or they just spend $$$ with no credit or priorities. Me thinks me is poor.
