That moment when they start to disappear... I got a little choked up when Spiderman hugs Tony in desperation. And then you remember that he's just a kid, so it makes that last moment so much sadder. It was like a dad watching his son die.
It's so funny to see Paul be like "Wow this character and story, I remember loving this stuff as a kid" Thanos didn't do this stuff when you were a kid. Yeah he was still cool but his motivation was too impress Lady Death so he can get laid and he was an ugly misshapen monster among his people. None of the noble greater good complexity was there, at least not when Paul is referring to.
was going to comment the same. in the comics he really was just generic bad guy obsessed with death. no complexity at so. was originally dreading the movie due to this, but the substantial changes they made to Thanos are amazing.
Tony's arc connected perfectly with the movies before. Actually quite frightening, when you think about that all his fears from Iron Man 3 and Avengers 2 became reality. And then that scene with Peter.
I don't think Thor "got over' all that happened to him as you guys say. He seemed to be dealing with it some pretty serious denial. He nearly cried when talking to Rocket
Getting dumped by Jane before Thor3:Ragnarok was just the first crumble, of Thors life falling apart. After he loses everything, He relates with Rocket Racoon so much because he uses comedy to cover up his pain. So amazing
On the first day he took the Power Stone, on the second day he took the Space Stone, on the third day he took the Reality Stone, on the fourth day he took the Soul Stone, on the fifth day he took the Time Stone, on the sixth day he took the Mind Stone, and on the seventh day, he rested.
I thought that Dr. Strange gave Thanos the Time Stone because he had seen the future and knew that it was the only way the Avengers could win. He even says something like "this was the only way"/"this had to happen" implying that he saw the future and knew what would come next.
Things I didn't like: -Thanos' character being rewritten so that his evil scheme is to rob a convenience store -Subplot about Tony Stark trying to get Dorsia reservations really slowed down the pace -Turning Captain America into a drug addicted sitar player contradicts previous development -Scene where Thanos reanimates Jesus, Buddha, and Krishna as zombies felt tacky -CGI mistakes, like the Hulk wearing a beekeeper suit and Nick Fury sporting muttonchops -Thanos is given a manic depressive cartoon anteater as a sidekick for merchandise reasons -Stan Lee being forced into a non-staged knife fight with a homeless man for his cameo
Edward Armstrong what was the point to the buildup of all the way to this movie it's like did they do it for Stan Lee because he's getting old and he needed some closure or even scarier is there some kind of meteor headed toward Earth and the elites know about it I keep up with stuff that may or may not be real but space-related in other words the u.s. Air Force and government owns aircraft you wouldn't even believe unless you saw things that they fly in these movies don't even compare to what they have
Fun fact BTW: Thanos's very first appearance was in an Iron Man issue. So the intimate one-on-one between those two feels like coming full circle, symbolically.
Might be late to mention but he isn't on Titan at the end. That planet is decimated. I was under the impression he was on Gamora's homeworld. He mentioned earlier how it's green and beautiful now.
So the thing about Thor is... He's 1,500 years old I believe. He's already lost Mother. His Girfliend Dumped him (offscreen even, so prolly got a Dear John letter). His Father was literally killed what... A few days before he had to destroy his home planet to stop his banished Sister from killing everyone in Asgard (during which time his companions were killed while he was trapped on another planet). He watched Heimdall get impaled. His brother was murdered right in front of him, this is the 3rd time he's seen him die in roughly 6 years? Also I think half the Asgardians were on a separate ship or put on Thanos' rig cause Thor mentions half of them being wiped out. And he watched the Hulk get the piss kicked out of him too... I think he's just experience a lot of shock over all the recent events that have happened in the brief amount of time as well as not coming to terms with the things that happened longer than days/weeks ago.
I also believe he is in a fucking rush, just cant stop, he knows that if he slows down everything is lost. I believe its a similiraty with thanos, who also lost everything but continued his task
Dank Helmet 100% agree with you. For me Thanos stole the show in this movie. He is a good villain. I don't want go as far and say that he is on the same Level as Darth Vader or The Joker (except Jared Leto's Joker) but he was a really good villain. He is the best Marvel Villain for sure.
I agree MCU has had a lot of lame villains, but they've also had a couple sympathetic, reasonably deep villains that TJ seems to discount offhand. -Vanko from Iron Man 2 is out for revenge for his father; as far as he can tell, Tony's dad had his own dad deported (to a country he'd fled from, where he was sure to face persecution) for the purpose of stealing his research. He's just pissed enough to risk death just for a chance to harm Tony. -Loki grew up in the shadow of an older brother and then found out he was basically adopted as a charity case. He just wants to mess with Earth as a way of spiting said brother, but because he's basically a god, his idea of mischief is to create an alien invasion. Then "Ragnarok" confirms that if he ever got any real power he'd just use it to make himself comfortable; he's not just about senseless destruction. -Seriously, what exactly don't they like about Killmonger? He's a guy who got raised to believe he was destined for royalty but instead his father gets executed extrajudicially, then he gets raised with everyone assuming he's just some street rat.
I have to disagree with Thanos having a point. His entire motivation to doing things was pretty much "but overpopulation" which is not really a problem. You're telling me that somehow an interplanetary civilization managed to run out of resources and starve to death while in a war for the scraps? How? Why didn't they just move to other planets if the overpopulation was so bad, or just build farms in space if they were running out of food? Hell, this problem is made even worse by how cheap and easy FTL travel is in Marvel universe.
Avaruusmurkku did thanos say that Titan was part of an interplanetary system? Even if it was, not every planets population has somewhere else they can go. I do agree that it's not the universe-risking problem that Thanos thinks it is, of course
All the Thor stuff really worked for me. So much so that he's pretty much become my favorite character in the MCU. Cap is gonna get the old shield back when he hooks up with Ironman again. I think the problem with Cap and all the heros that were left on earth is they don't really go on a adventure. They just kinda hold the fort.
I love how Thanos kills half the population instead of using the gauntlet to just form and gift them more resources. It would have made more sense if the drive they chose was his love of Mistress Death like in the Deadpool comics.
The boys have clearly not read the comics. Lol Buckys story is relevant because he will most likely take over as Cap after avengers 4. Ebony Maw was what they were thinking of. And yeah to have him killed off along with all the black order is kinda lame. We’ll see how well that stands as we see A4. Because if theyre dead and the fact that Thanos has won wont matter. Dr strange changed his stance BECAUSE he saw the future.
Couldn’t Thanos just make more resources? I honestly couldn’t understand why he would kill half the universe if he could just as easy make more resources with the gauntlet. Good movie tho
That is true. But i don't think whether or not his plan actually works is really the point, as the movie focuses on letting the audience know why it is that thanos does think he is right.
I’m here after over a year to explain, cause there actually is a reason. He didn’t want to be seen as a savior or as one who “generates more”. If you double the resources that just means the fall will be greater when *those* resources run dry. By making a clean “reset the population and teach people to preserve the resources” it’s one and done, the stones will never be needed again, all lives will (in his mind) be set for as long as they can cause they preserve the future. If they needed to double resources constantly then people wouldn’t learn what he thinks is the better solution, and in turn become more greedy and dependent on those stones and overusing resources.
Easily the best marvel movie by a mile. I loveddddd how ballsy it was to have him dominate the avengers. It was the equivalent of superman fighting mma fighters. But they still made it entertaining despite this huge power disparity. I loved how they humanized him too, like you guys said. The way when mantis entranced him, he was in pain over gammora and mourning. In the trailer it showed captain america holding back his gauntlet, but he actually wasn't.... Which made thst scene more interesting. He saw the diometric opposition in him yet his pure spirit which intrigued him. Then when he was done marveling him for a few seconds, he punches him one time and downs him. It was nearly perfect. Shouldve spent less time with scarlet witch and vision and more time on captain America and bucky, considering this was buckys last film. Loved it though. Still a 10/10 for me. Easy. Go see it in imax. Totally worth the extra cash
People with real intelligence wrote, directed and edited this movie. FINALLY. If you have keen people behind a project like this, anything can work. And they know to focus on the villain is just as important as focusing on the heroes.
I used to read Tales from the Crypt comic books but never really a fan of any others until my friend let me read his Infinity Gaunlets series. Amazing story! I could hear the scenes as I read, really took you away from reality.
The scene when gamora asked him if he accomplished his goal and says what it costed makes me so sympathetic for thanos. Like yes he’s a crazy fuck but thanos has definitely a good point on why he’s collecting the stones. Not many villains can grab your heart like that
About Cap's shield. I believe the filmmakers are saving that for the next Avengers. Maybe a very touching moment where him and Tony reconnect and Tony brings it out saying "I believe this belongs to you". That would be fucking kick ass!
Paul is so insufferable talking about how he loved Thanos in the comics. Thanos is the comics is a genocidal maniac to impress Death. He didn’t have high minded ideals or emotional depth. That is the invention of Brolin and the writers of the movie.
He's not Captain America anymore. He even introduces himself to Groot as "Steve Rogers ". The Russo Bros. said Cap will have a more prominent role in Pt. 2 of IWs.
I know u said u never cared for scarlet witch but I've really enjoyed her character throughout the mcu. She had a good moment in civil war killing cross bones how it affected her and sorta kicked off the beginning of the Civil War. I like that she is so powerful but absolutely terrified of that power. She wasn't born that way. But unlike captain America or Tony stark she didn't volunteer for it either. She was forced into it. She has merit as a character. Thanks for the video. It's was very entertaining.
This was truly an amazing film. Thanos as the first truly complex villain surprised the hell out of me. This movie had fucking guts. It deserves to make billions. Just speaking for myself, I ordered a Thanos t-shirt after seeing this movie. I'm going to see it again to contribute money in the sincere hope that this movies monumental success will cause Hollywood to make more movies like this.
You realize that thanos's motivations were totally different in the comics right? I'm not sure how he shaped your world view when he just wanted to kill a lot of people to impress death in the comics....
Honestly I think the movie is fantastic up until that last scene with Vision getting brought back. The fact that Wanda killed Vision and then Thanos is just like "lol" and brings him back essentially ruins the gravity of all of the deaths. Now we see that these characters will be brought back when the original cast kick the shit out of Thanos and reforge the Gauntlet to use the Time Stone to turn everything back to before Thanos attacked the Asgardian ship. The Avengers show up and kick his ass again before he's all powered up and then everyone is alive again, THE END. The concept of death is now irrelevant because the Time Stone will just bring everyone back, and then Wanda will destroy it. Awful setup for a good ending. I wish Thanos had just gotten to Vision before Wanda could kill him. Then have it be a thing where only the complete power of the Infinity Gauntlet could turn back time itself to such a degree before shattering it as well as the Stones from ever existing before a certain point.
>then Wanda will destroy it. Which isn't possible, Wanda only could destroy the stone in Vision's head as she's connected to it, if anyone could "destroy" it, it'll be Doctor Strange.
I envy Paul. I wanted my favorite Marvel hero to be well treated in the MCU. I didn't hate to the boiling point like they do, the movie was enjoyable at best. But this is not my Black Panther, not quite.
Captain America isn't the Captain anymore, not since Civil War. He's probably the Nomad now. Someone else is probably gonna be the Cap, maybe War Machine, that'd be neat.
I loved this movie and I HATE superhero movies. I went to see it with my fiancé just because he wanted to see it and I walked out in loved and he hated it because all of his favorite superheroes were dead. Another thing that I found funny is that people are calling it racist because they killed off black panther, even though a bunch of white characters got killed off too.
The CGI villain actually fits in with this movie. I was terrified of a CGI villain, thinking it would be horrible, but they really, really, pulled it off. Perfect. I think HULK was dropped to put in BP and Wakanda because that movie did so well. Damn shame. My favorites MM were the first XMen, the first Iron Man, the first Captain America, the first Avengers, the first Guardians of the Galaxy, Ramis’ Spider Man, Dr. Strange, and thats it. I haven’t seen this one yet.
Loved the movie. The only thing I didn't like was the decision to make the relationship between Vision and Scarlett Witch a romantic one: it felt contrived. That would be my on real complaint, anything else would be petty nitpicking. Being able to make a movie with this many main characters, without it turning into a total cluster fuck, would be an achievement in and of itself. Making a movie with this many characters actually coherent, and giving many of those characters satisfying arcs is astonishing.
Thor is essentially an indestructible tank in the first two avengers. No earthling can take him. Everyone who knows asgardians has fear or respect for them. They strong. so when he had to take the Star energy, it leaves the audience thinking " whoa, I know he's formidable, but how much can he take" reminded me of Hercules labors. A true test for a hero of this caliber
I could argue that Thanos was the hero. While his pension for cruelty is a definite negative, his destiny is inarguably what is best for the universe. I'd even say 90% should be eliminated. From the aspect level of our species, it is immoral to breed exponentially in a world with finite resources and since we cannot figure that out, either Thanos can act, or our extinction on our current path is guaranteed.
The MCU depiction of Thanos was amazing. in the comics Thanos always annoyed me that he was over the top powerful. He has an intellect that Rivals most beings but his ego is what gets me defeated. As smart as he is, youd think the Mad Titan would learn from this.
I thought the idea for Iron Man's suit was perfect. It seems like magic. Like a smart phone in the 70's would have. Although currently making anything, of any amount, out of nanotechnology is not quite practical.
Two things 1 Thor's I dilemma was actually because the two people who are making Thor Ragnarok and the infinity war didn't talk to each other about him losing and I so it was more of a miscommunication thing than anything else 2 Thor is definitely weeping in avengers endgame
I wonder about how Thanos' ability to destroy the half of the population of the galaxy. Was he only hitting the humanoid extraterrestrial civilizations? Did he hit all species across the galaxy? Was Rocket left alone because Rocket says "There ain't no thing like me except me" and Thanos left alone the solitary species? How would that work out for the nearly exterminated species? If so, did he hasten the extermination of millions of species by cutting their rare bloodlines in half? F*ck I have too much free time to think about this.
I partially agree with you on Vision/Scarlet Witch. I feel like what they've done works for the story, but not the characters. What they really needed to do is make a Scarlet Witch/Vision movie *before* Infinity War. Have it be Ragnarok > Black Panther > *Scarlet Witch/Vision movie* > Infinity War instead of Ragnarok > Black Panther > Infinity War.
I mean the real reason Strange let Tony live is becuase he saw however many million version and the only one they win probably has Tony still alive so Strange knows they NEED tony too beat Thanos
How there's no tension because time reset, the deaths are shock factor. This is just action and only works because we know all the characters. Thano is ment to be killing everyone because he loves death, way is he trying to save people by killing a bunch of them because of overpopulation which makes no sense as he can do anything with the stones.
steven oconnor we still don't know who is going to die in order to restore the natural order of things. I expect all the OG Avengers to die or at least the majority.
The music was dry, which is typical for Marvel soundtracks. It's the same droning orchestral "duuuh du du duuuh du" for two fucking hours. With a more precise musical score, more Thanos time and NO Wakanda (seriously fuck Wakanda), tighten up the screenplay (overhaul spotty subplots like the Vision, big Dinklage etc.) -- THEN I can see how the film could be a masterpiece. Nitpicking aside, they got Thanos right. He had a far more compelling motivation than his character in the Infinity Gauntlet series. He saved the Universe from abject poverty. He saved this movie. What a swell guy.
Well Marvel villain problem was they did not own the most interesting of their villains. Ironically they finally nailed it barely months before actually fixing that issue.
My opinion on the MCU Infinity saga (and this is from not having seen the movie): Honestly, as a fan of the original comics, it’s hard for me to get excited for the MCU version. The comics were entrenched in Marvel cosmic, with the heroes being more side characters. In the movies, it’s the opposite. The story in the comics was about the interplay between Thanos and Warlock, drenched in symbolism and existential angst. It wasn’t really feasible for the MCU to capture that same feel.
I was actually banking on Vision taking Adam Warlock's place somehow. I still think he might get resurrected in Adam's body or something. Until this movie ended in a cliffhanger, I thought they might build up to Magus in the sequel; now it looks like they'll have to take that movie to tie up this one.
That moment when they start to disappear... I got a little choked up when Spiderman hugs Tony in desperation. And then you remember that he's just a kid, so it makes that last moment so much sadder. It was like a dad watching his son die.

was going to comment the same. in the comics he really was just generic bad guy obsessed with death. no complexity at so. was originally dreading the movie due to this, but the substantial changes they made to Thanos are amazing.

ZeeTheFreeman Have you ever heard of exaggeration for comedic affect?
Give Paul a break, he is quite busy preaching depression and frustration in Highdeology streams.
lol they just took a couple weeks off because they moved.

I like how they made him finally appear “beatable” when spiderman ALMOST got the glove off his arm!! I truly appreciated it.

Avaruusmurkku did thanos say that Titan was part of an interplanetary system? Even if it was, not every planets population has somewhere else they can go. I do agree that it's not the universe-risking problem that Thanos thinks it is, of course
It's pretty hard to run out of space when you have gigantic space installations like that floating around the planet.
@@Avaruusmurkku the fact that you describe life like a virus shows that some zealot can think that life will be a problem
How is that a virus? Absolute nonsense.
And Thanos' problem was people supposedly dying to overpopulation, not that they were "viruses".
I'm glad they left out the bit about Thanos trying to impress Death, even if the half dead part matches up.
Fun isn't something one considers when watching Counter Pointless, but this does put a smile on my face.
They could have treated Cap better but that scene where he has pushing the gauntlet back towards Thanos. That was his best scene

Paul is so insufferable talking about how he loved Thanos in the comics. Thanos is the comics is a genocidal maniac to impress Death. He didn’t have high minded ideals or emotional depth. That is the invention of Brolin and the writers of the movie.
Paul could do a really Solid Rocket Raccoon voice!
He's not Captain America anymore. He even introduces himself to Groot as "Steve Rogers ". The Russo Bros. said Cap will have a more prominent role in Pt. 2 of IWs.
Saw it tonight and it was nothing short of amazing
Speaking as a complete MCU fanboy, it’s cool to hear that people who don’t necessarily like or love The marvel movies sing this ones praises.
*Age of Ultron was a piece of garbage. What was the "Age" btw? 3 or 4 days? Just like what you said about Civil War, it was some one-off garbage*
I disagree with you guys totally on the Wakanda battle I thought that was badass
James Howlett yeah it was cool. They can be a bit too cynical at times but that’s their thing so whatever
I wonder, if they re-did the greatest villains in cinema episode for DFF again, if Thanos would've come out in first place, I can see that happening.
RokLinen first place? Hell no
enjoi0555 I get that Darth Vader is THE villain, but at that very least he would compete with health ledgers Joker. Top 3
RokLinen idk I think we need this film to digest for everyone. Thanos’s motives are pretty flawed and he’s pretty one note for most of the film.
enjoi0555 You’re wrong.
I'm right
Scotty called out TJ when he underestimates Thor!!!! Love it
This was truly an amazing film.
Are we getting one of these for Endgame? I come back to this video religiously hoping for your thoughts on the new film.
Black widow dies, Almost as funny as when iron man took the infinity gauntlet and killed thanos in end game.
You realize that thanos's motivations were totally different in the comics right? I'm not sure how he shaped your world view when he just wanted to kill a lot of people to impress death in the comics....
and josh brolin is about to knock it out as cable too
Deadpool 2 so excited:P
Brolin as Cable? Perfect combination! Cant wait!
I hope these Marvel films takes Infinity War as a lesson. Please make more great super villains. Oh god, please do it right with Venom.
Saw it:
4 times in theatres
3 times on Amazon
probably gunna see it right before endgame
Almost as funny as when iron man took the infinity gauntlet and killed thanos in end game. Black widow dies in end game
Liberal bias ha, you fool, i’ve already seen the movie
SPOILERS?!?!?! WTF?!?!? Oh, right I've seen it. :P JK guys love ya. :D
I haven’t seen this one yet.
read the comic as a kid and really enjoyed the movie.
it suprised me how much.
This movie made me feel depressed and hopeless at the end, which is why it’s so good
Loved the movie.
Dude if you read the comics you'd hate it then, the romance is iconic
Well I'm not gonna watch the film, I'm just here for the drama.
I saw it and liked it! I predict it will become the first 3 billion dollar film! Last Jedi can crawl into a hole and die!
When Thanos takes off his armour in the beginning, did anyone else think that he was ever going to put it back on? ;)
A well-placed f-bomb can drive home a point. You guys drop them like a middle school kid trying to prove that he's cool.
I thought the idea for Iron Man's suit was perfect. It seems like magic. Like a smart phone in the 70's would have. Although currently making anything, of any amount, out of nanotechnology is not quite practical.
I'm glad you guys talked about this movie!!
That moment when you realize the badass Thanos gets his ass kicked by squrral girl
why are they reviewing marketing material for plastic toys like it's a movie? Is this some kind of modern mass hypnosis?
Wow. Much profound.
I would say that we can all identify with Ultron. He spent like a minute on the internet and was like oh shit yeah humans need to fucking go.
I haven't even hit play, I'm waiting for Paul to tell me wether or not to pay to see this movie
🐘 in the Room:
Brolin playing Cable is a huge mistake
We all know that role was tailor-made for Dolph Lundgren
Hulk looked like a fumbling child compared to the uber-trained Thanos.
It seems like they are setting up Tony Stark to die, but maybe I'm wrong
Philosophy of Religion Blog what if the whole original avengers have to sacrifice themselves to the soul Stone to save everyone else that died
Two things
1 Thor's I dilemma was actually because the two people who are making Thor Ragnarok and the infinity war didn't talk to each other about him losing and I so it was more of a miscommunication thing than anything else
2 Thor is definitely weeping in avengers endgame
just finished, its very rare that i agree with everything you guys say, but I do.
Has Black Widow ever done anything of major consequence in these movies?
Better question: Has she ever did anything of major consequence in the comics to justify giving her anything of major consequence in the movies?
Nightstalker314 She closed the portal in the first Avengers movie.
Why didn't Doctor Strange just use his portals to drop the one ring into the fires of Mount Doom?
Good to see a movie from Disney that subverts expectations, but doesn't suck. Do I even have to say what movie I'm referencing?
will come back after seeing it, thanks
Saw Infinity war yesterday....10/10!
same and i agree 100 with you.
best marvel movie yet
9/10
How there's no tension because time reset, the deaths are shock factor. This is just action and only works because we know all the characters. Thano is ment to be killing everyone because he loves death, way is he trying to save people by killing a bunch of them because of overpopulation which makes no sense as he can do anything with the stones.
steven oconnor we still don't know who is going to die in order to restore the natural order of things. I expect all the OG Avengers to die or at least the majority.
steven oconnor
you are very stupid, how can you not grasp this plot?
Doctor Strange tried taking Thanos to the mirror dimension but Thanos shattered it.
Thank you, guys. Thank you so much.
Well Marvel villain problem was they did not own the most interesting of their villains. Ironically they finally nailed it barely months before actually fixing that issue.
Loved this discussion, literally the only review type video that looked at it critically and not just re-capping the movie. Good job guys :)
Why do you assume Capt America will die in the next one/ He maybe new captains tutor or guide
ps not you directly
Until this movie ended in a cliffhanger, I thought they might build up to Magus in the sequel; now it looks like they'll have to take that movie to tie up this one.
starlord fuck it up at the end,if he didn't lose his cool thanos would have lost
My mom keeps accusing me of being gay because I wont massage her feet again . . .
James Gunn wrote the dialogue for guardians.
i really hope that there will be another "meeting" between Thanos and Tony Stark
while both are on Tintan at the moment
this could be interesting ^^
I think you guys need to rewatch "watchmen" because alot of reasons you like thanos are present in that film
Now that i think about it, Thanos reminds me a lot of Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.
