OH dang, that would have been really good to include but this one was all one color. Hmm.... I'll be making my next spotty tail sometime around December, but I doubt you wanna wait that long. I can see what I can do about verbally describing :/ I would sew the tail up on that seam line like normal, stopping where the spot would be, and resuming at the other side. Then cut the fur out where the spot should be. Then Get the spot that's a different color, fit it into that hole, and blanket stitch it in.
If you moved your tracing paper closer to the edge and each other, you'd save a ton of fabric and could make much more with it. This stuff costs way too much to be wasting, girl! 😆
That's such a neat way of doing the tail base! Also about your theory, id definitely agree, the second tail follows the natural curve of your body, more so than something which looks like an S and ends up bumping you every 5 seconds lol. Thanks for sharing this :)
Ahh I'm so glad you liked it, thank you!!! And that makes sense about following the curve of your body. I'm excited to make a lot of different tails with this method that all have nice wagging motions!!
Thank you sooo much!!! Yeah, I started making tutorias about a year ago. Hard to get noticed!! /: oh well, I know I'm helping a few people so that's nice!
May I ask the name of those clip things? I’ve been meaning to get some now that I’m making suits more! Also thank you so much for this I’ve been trying to find out how to make a tail base forever will definitely be using your tutorials in the future you are a gift from the gods!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 have a cookie!! 🍪 🍪
Aw yay thank you!!!! *munch* so glad you like it! and if you search up 'sewing clips' or 'wonderclips' you should find tons of listings for them. i bought mine off aliexpress but they're also on ebay, etsy, amazon, and at joanns the store.
Love this! I've been looking for a more in-depth tutorial on how to make tails like these- plus I didn't know how to tie off a ladder stitch so it's a win-win :)
Glad I could help!!! yeah I saw that nobody really showed a good way to start and tie off a ladder stitch securely... wanted to make sure I showed that XD Good luck on your tails!!!!
I've just made a swishy shark tail !!!! I completely guessed the shapes and based it loosely on this video, thank you sooo much for the incredibly clear instructions
Your tutorials are so nice and soothing! I’ve been wanting to make a bat for the longest time, and this will certainly help! Thanks a lot! By the way, nice shirt! ;)
I will DEFINITELY be using this method for my tails from now on. Your way of making tails is so much cleaner and seamless than mine lol. You’re an absolute live saver
i want to commission something from you so bad!! i have a little list of creators i want to commission when i have the money and you're right at the top :) i just love your style! im planning on starting my own plushie/art/eventually fursuit business in a few years so once i get enough money from that i can commission some professionals! (also i will be forever grateful for these tutorials and all of the questions of mine that you've answered it's really been so much help)
And... I have no idea why it never hit me before that the stuffing seam can be put in the middle of the tail so that stuffing isn't nearly as nightmare-ish as otherwise. Also there are indeed commercially available tails with similar ideas (that is, the "coming straight out" part), but I guess for this to actually work there are 2 designs working together, that base go out almost straight, and the whole tail slant away without curving back. Commercially available ones seem to never think of the second part and would just sag down, despite looking more convincing when not being worn. That is, except crocodile/dinosaur tails I guess, but those are basically butt spikes that won't sag down whatsoever.
I love your tutorials and your method of making these parts; I’ll definitely use some of your tips for when building my first fursuit body!
Aw thank you!!! I hope they help a lot!!! :3c
Same
5:27 there's a smile :)
Hey, what do you do if there’s a part of the pattern (like a spot) directly on the seam line of the tail?
OH dang, that would have been really good to include but this one was all one color. Hmm.... I'll be making my next spotty tail sometime around December, but I doubt you wanna wait that long.

Amazing! These videos make me feel so satisfied seeing how you just patch up everything with the lining and all that, great work!
Glad you enjoyed it!!!!
Do you think I should add a piece of EVA foam to the tail?
if it's a large or heavy tail, maybe that would be a good idea!
just wondering what kind of fur do u use? and where can i find it?
i get luxury shag / teddy fur / ecoshag from big z, howl fabrics, and fursuitsupplies!
