The steering wheel is amazing and period correct. Mercedes used to run it in the 380 and 450slc race cars officially back then, even luxury w126 tuners like koenig and abc exclusive were running these no airbag 3 spoke wheels. And the original wheel mercedes put in the c126 was from a bus, looked ugly and provided 0 road feel. Most people swapped them for tuner wheels like this, or the w124 sportline wheels. The commenter is just ignorant.
Thank you very much. You are right, I can drive it every day and it doesn't feel like a nearly 40 year old car. But ok I have to admit I'm a big Mercedes fan😄
I have to say I enjoyed every bit and molecule of this video! There is nothing more interesting to see the performance of a true Youngtimer in the real world 4 decades later! We were children when these cars were new and we didn't have a clear idea how fast they were! I was bursting with joy when you finally clocked 211 GPS at the end which is as fast as what Mercedes had claimed 37 years ago! This is an amazing achievement for a car of this age! Please upload more videos of this kind and it is indeed kind of you to attach a GPS to your windscreen to show us the real speed because speedometer error is usually high on these cars! Every car of the 1980s and 1990s is interesting for an Autobahn run with GPS! You don't need to find very special and fast cars. I already liked and subscribed to your channel!!
Thank you very much, I was also very surprised that I reached exactly the top speed that Mercedes specified at the time. And luckily I got the GPS installed to prove it because as you said the speedo error was very high. Those were also the cars of my childhood. I try to do some more videos in the future and I think you are right you need the GPS on that cars to see the real speed.
@@Messergebnis-liebhaber W126 is an oldtimer my friend. Otherwise I would be paying taxes for my 1983 380 SEC! A car is classified an oldtimer after it reaches an age of 30 years or older. Youngtimers are from age 20 to 30 years..
@@xXEatYourDogXx So, even a 1991 E36 325i is classified as an Oldtimer! Great info! So, you own a W126 either! Tell me a little more about it and how does it feel on the Autobahn?
I am about to purchase this car in white, navy leather, AMG body kit, AMG chrome monoblocks. 71k miles. I am a bit scared of it but the price is down to $3;500USD. Its all there, no rust runs and drives. Few interior bits need sorting. What should I look for.
Unfortunately, that's really the case and also something that bothers me a bit, especially in comparison with the successor (C140) I'll post an everyday video with speeds between 50 and 120
I have the same car, except mines 1983. I’m still in the slow process of restoring it but it runs and drives. Can’t wait for the warmer weather so I can take it out for a drive.
@@florider4508 rust huh? Thankfully i barely have any. After I got it repainted and tinted, this thing looks a lot better than when I got it. @@berdyevplus Yes I know 😄Lucky you concerning rust. Mine has it mostly under the rear window. I've tried preserving it but I'm not happy with it. I think I'll replace the whole part and then do a new paint job too. The cars are worth it.

If you only compare the engines I would say the 380, the 560 doesn't have the best reputation. My SEC for example consumes and loses absolutely no oil, water etc. although it has never been well maintained and it still achieves the top speed and acceleration that Mercedes advertised 40 years ago. But 380 and 560 were never built at the same time. From 81 to 85 380 and 500 were produced, then 420, 500, 560. If it comes to rust etc. I would take one after 85. I'm currently looking for a 500 from 86 or older in a weird color combination.

@@arhimond7 Good choice, I am very happy with the engine. And quite frankly there is so little difference in power between the 560 which wasn't even offered at the time and the 380. If you consider that today the same model starts at 100hp and ends at 600hp.😄
@@florider4508Unfortunattely you are wrong. 299 PS M117 986 was the first 250 km/h Mercedes model. It had almost 50% more power than 3.8 liter. It was faster than Mercedes W201 EVO 2 and BMW E32 V12. Whats the fuel consumption ?
