If it was a mainstream Aussie accent he was going for he didn't pull it off. However he actually did a very accurate Launceston (town in Tasmania) accent
Speaking as an Aussie, I can honestly say his accent is pretty good. I don't know why everyone uses his character as an example of a terrible Aussie accent impression, it's by far one of the better ones I've heard a non-Aussie do in a film.
Yes. His accent is too "perfect" and the Aussie accent is unique for its imperfects. That being said, it is unmistakably an Aus accent (pro) I have never heard a fellow countryman with that accent (con)
That's right Juliette already had one for Cape Fear she's great. They probably thought this was too campy and since it criticized the media the media did not like it.
Well it's not a bad go at the aussie accent. But other than the slightly imperfect accent, hes a bloody engaging actor. Like that was a really good performance
1:15 to 1:30 So basically "Natural Born Killers" was a sequel of all these movies: - Gimme Shelter (1970). - Noriega: God's Favorite(2000). - Frost/Nixon(2008). - Rocketman(2019).
This is the same accent he uses in "Tropic Thunder". For the purposes of improvising dialogue more naturally, Robert Downey Jr. convinced Ben Stiller for him to use an Australian accent for Kirk Lazarus instead the original Irish in the script.
As an Aussie.....he not only pulled off the accent, but also the attitude and delivery as well. Brilliant actor indeed
Then Ironman also likes AC/DC who are Australian.
His best Performance
It's the coke, Bill. The coke.
just terrific Lukas.
Kirk Lazarus was also a brilliant actor in Tropic Thunder. RDJ got nothing on him with the Aussie accent
If it was a mainstream Aussie accent he was going for he didn't pull it off. However he actually did a very accurate Launceston (town in Tasmania) accent
My next guess was going to be Launceston actually
Dear God... Yeah the character in the movie is from Tasmania, he's very vocal about it in a deleted scene.
How Woody kept a straight face during any of this is amazing.
completely in character.
Dudes a pro

Word. I maintain this is the best Aussie accent a non-Australian has ever done. Everyone else gets it far worse.
Kinds reminds me of Paul Robinson in Neighbours
Same, also an aussie here, it's incredibly rare for non-Aussies to actually pull off the accent but he did it twice (both here and in Tropic Thunder)
Nobody has ever said "bisexuality" with such vigor and aplomb. What a fantastic character and performance.
I think Robert could be a really good joker
IRON JOKER
In my fukn dreams gosh
Carnage and Iron Man

Does this guy even age? I mean this was 22 years ago, he had drug and alcohol adiction and it had no effect on him.
m ake up
No even in real life he's pretty
Drugs are good. The media lies.
Hes a man made of iron
Botox has an effect though.
''This is Elton John confessing his bisexuality to RRRRRROlling Stone!!"
0:09 that weird laugh and woodys sideways look has me howling every time 😂😂😂
Excellent acting by Robert Downey!
RDJ a beast
You can tell Tarantino came up with this character.
Well, yeah. Wayne Gayle was the main character in the original script.
Ming? There no ming it’s a fuckin restaurant lol.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Every performance in this movie was Oscar-worthy, too bad they had no guts.
That's right Juliette already had one for Cape Fear she's great. They probably thought this was too campy and since it criticized the media the media did not like it.
"What it might have become." Can't blame Oliver Stone, he was the one
who saw/assembled this. Had the Vision.
He later played an Aussie who acted as a black American who was in disguise as a Asian farmer..
It’s slightly too broad to be a mainstream Australian accent, but such an inflection could easily be found in the bush and Outback
WG came from very humble beginnings.
thanks, this American was wondering.
Yeah the character in the movie is from Tasmania, he's very vocal about it in a deleted scene. He's doing a perfect tasmanian accent
Well it's not a bad go at the aussie accent. But other than the slightly imperfect accent, hes a bloody engaging actor. Like that was a really good performance
One of my favourite performances in any movie, honestly wish the whole movie had been about him following them around the country
All I see is Iron Man & Carnage talking to each other
Perfection
I can't really tell you how authentic RDJ's accent is but I think it fits his out-there, attention-whore role perfectly. He is hilarious!
I thought it would've been great if he dropped the accent at some point during the riot to show that he was just using it for the show.
RDJr was my favorite part of this movie.
@0:45 classic tlj laugh... Robert d Jr man!! omg!!!😂😂😂
So good, I only found out today that was RDJ
I think that in Tarantino's original script, this was the main character. It would've been a very different movie.
Would've been a good tie-in. Honestly, I would've watched a NBK prequel focused on WG.
Even back then he was a dude playin a dude disguised as another dude.
I am Iron Man
Oliver Stone didn’t ask him to do an Australian accent. RDJ was just going through a phase in the 90s.
For some reason the Aussie accent is hard for people to do, this was OK I suppose, certainly better than others I've heard in film
This is so ledger joker voice
not exact but one of the most accurate attempts of an american doing the accent ive heard. nice one
1:15 to 1:30

- Gimme Shelter (1970).
- Noriega: God's Favorite(2000).
- Frost/Nixon(2008).
- Rocketman(2019).
they had a nice ensemble cast that coulda gone on forever with this - -
Tarantino-like.
Speaking of Superbowl promos!
Is he channelling Bobcat Goldthwait?
Wow perfect accent,Jikjin
Kirk Lazarus was born
Was it Wierd Science when teens first fell in LOVE with him?
Just as in pretty in ink they fell in love w James spader? Half a century ago
This is the same accent he uses in "Tropic Thunder". For the purposes of improvising dialogue more naturally, Robert Downey Jr. convinced Ben Stiller for him to use an Australian accent for Kirk Lazarus instead the original Irish in the script.
Great comment Brent D.

RDJ's best work in my opinion! Completely disconnected from reality resulting from his extremely misplaced sense of sensationalized journalism
Why is Iron Man in prison
Natural Born Killers (1994)
and I thought Al Pacino chewed scenery in Scent of a Woman (1992) and Heat (1995)!! LOL "for the rest of his LIFE!!!!"
*loife
I feel like he based his character on Bob Hawke lol
His ass never changed ig
Tony Stark on coke !
👶💌💟❤❤❤💞💜💗
If Tony Stark and Kirk Lazarus had a baby....
Lol
Um, is that meant to be an Australian accent or a very bad parody of one?
everyone saying his Australian accent is good, but, as an Aussie (no hate to RDJ though) it's gotta be the worst I've ever heard..
like, why does his voice.. do that.. 0:22
Worst acting in that masterpiece
