My man, you really saved me. Have had a Hero+ for years and haven't been able to use it due to those arms being broken, this video saved it. Going to do this stuff later.
Ok i went a ahead and did the fix. Instead of a file for the case I used a grinding wheel to do most of the work and what was left I used a small file. I bought JB Weld and glued both pieces together and let them sit for the past 20hrs. Will field test it this weekend with a hike.
This model of camera seems to me to have a weaker mount area than the standard models. Despite never having broken a mounting tab on any other gopro cameras I have mounted on the racing motorbikes and sidecars, no less than 5 of these cameras broke through 'normal' track usage (I am not including crashes, which killed three more of them). Whilst this video shows a neat solution to the problem, I cannot use this method as the glued area is small and I doubt it will stand up to the rigors of racing. What i have done is purchased a 3D printed repair piece that I have attached to 5 of those broken cameras. I have used glue (Loctite superglue - which may not be the correct type of glue to use) and some very small bolts. I'm dubious about the strength of the 3D printed parts, but I will be thrashing them this coming weekend at a Street racing event in New Zealand. If anyone's interested, I'll post back here and let you know how they held up. I might just be whinging about five lost cameras. Cheers.
How did the repairs work for you . Im interested as I too fit them to Bikes (and ride in the ISle of Man so pretty fast ) and I would hate for the repair to fail at those speeds.
to save the thing from 1:30 i use angle bracket (flexible steel but hard enough not to shake or vibrate)cut them into appropriate size..less 2 inches long and bent them into 2 L shape use some file to shape them and paint them before i glued them.. but i wouldnt have thought of it withot this vid.. big thanks men
My GoPro hero it's broken from the back (where does the back door hold in place from under) that "U" shape area idk how to call it do you have a solution for that problem?
mine dropped from 3 feet while I was cycling and the same happened to mine, I kinda want to replace the housing with hero 4 housing so it looks badass, would you recommend taking out all the hero's internals and putting them into a hero 4 black case?
I already have tried this using 5 minute epoxy, so basically the same thing. The camera got knocked off by branches way easier than before the initial break. Isn't there a type of glue that is practically plastic and becomes part of the casing instead of just gluing it?
Thank you i am about to try it. Given a like a sub. it sucks having this gopro but its good for the price and this fix up is only going to cost me $5 instead of buying a whole new Gopro. much thanks play post a video one how well it is holding up and more Riding videos! its been about 4 months since your last ONE!!
amazing video, thanks for posting!! didn't want to give up on the camera due to some stupid plastic tab, using a bench grinder sped up the whole process, we shall see how it holds up on the skiing trip in jan!
Thanks for the video man now I'm prepared and know what to do when or if the ring things on my action camera (Go Pro like camera) breaks off. Again thank you.
Same as mine dropped from a meter last year and since last year till now there is no any solution to fix. May I know where to find the epoxy adhesive glue in singapore? If I glue it back will it popped out on the helmet while riding motorbike that is quite fast due to the wind? Hope you guys can share. Thanks!
My daughter broke the latch hinge on the top of the camera, now I can't latch the cover. I bought a new case, but of course the camera is molded in. Any suggestions? It's out of warranty so I feel like I'm out of luck
I got a few questions that I'm hoping you can answer for me :) 1) will this same process work with the GoPro frame? 2) I have the gorilla glue brand epoxy (1 side yellowish other side clear) will that work? And 3) how sturdy will this be I do some bike riding and use my frame more the the protective housing :) please let me know when you can thank you :)
Only one of the parts from my housing broke, is there any way i can super glue it back on or is it too risky, im not doing extreme sports but i do use it a lot.
I tried almost every glue, but it broke again. Now I just put the broken part in to the buckle and then i just ad the go pro with one part. It works pretty well on my motorbike! For me it was to risky to break the other part just for making a new part :/
I designed a 3d printed part that has bigger base. This way it is much stronger. Take a look at the part: www.shapeways.com/product/DWCC8R9WU/go-pro-repair-mount-for-housings?optionId=61411261&li=shop-inventory
Yes it did. While the mount braket is removable, the lens cover is integrated with the body. You damage that, you need a new gopro. Basically 5 is built into casing, but has the mount area saperate.
would you be able use it just like before as I've got try this on mine is it still waterproof and able to with stand long time in water those sort things after doing this
Super glue didn't work with my GoPro, it almost broke from fall damage, either use epoxy or try your best to melt the two surfaces together using a lighter

Excellent video. But where do you buy the two pronged plastic bit. I've been all over the web just now.
Extremely helpful, guy

He never got back from the hike I guess

Very nice I’ll give it a try on mine, have the problem same GoPro, thanks
Thanks man! This vid is really so helpful! Can i ask, if i can use any brand of epoxy? Thanks man!!!
Great video but how do i fix the part that holds the lid the bottom part
does it hold . and what kind of glue do i need? Please answer today because i will get it from the store. and thanks for doing this video!
Thank you for convincing me to repair mine instead of replacing.
im about to do the same fix.. after more than 2 years, how is the glue holding up?
I followed step by step, except I used a dremmel tool, works great, epoxy holds up great to wind and water,,good job man
Thanks you just saved my go pro’s life I was bouta just buy a new one

The housing on my go pro hero 5 broke too, i just used pvc cement, worked like a charm
Where did you get the new prongs from? Mine shattered and I want to fix it like your video but just need new prongs.
thanks bro!!! I'm going to try this, instead of a arm extension I'm goinf to try to use a tripod adaptor xD
Tripod adapter wont work...
@@DreiGuapo why?
This is really helpful and i was thinking of the same thing to repair mine! Just sand it and some automotive epoxy and done!
If i want to change the case i can ???i try take out and it imposible do you know how to do it?

Cool video! Thank you so much! Does it resist in water? Is it very though?
awesome video dude, I have the doubt if with this fix the parts glued can afford extreme vibrations and stuff.
Thanks!
Personal mente no lo recomiendo te podría funcionar un par de veces pero corres el riesgo de que se te caiga en el camino.

I also had this problem my solution was to get the sportsman mount which includes a backdoor that has a mount on it

Danny Blankenship you can buy an aluminum latch off of amazon
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_1_8?k=gopro+latch&sprefix=gopro+la
Danny Blankenship I sent my GoPro back in when it was out of warranty. Just talk to an agent with live chat,

Smart bro.
Such a great idea. Shame GoPro hero 5 has gone down the same track with having the GoPro all built into the case

arihantagarwal actually it's not, all you have to do it twist and lift it off the GoPro, then just replace it with another.
would you be able use it just like before as I've got try this on mine is it still waterproof and able to with stand long time in water those sort things after doing this
To be honest, i never got the time to test it out, but yes its still waterproof that i am very sure.

Just saved me from buying a new one!
Ok just use the hot glue gun and a little bit of sandpaper on the sides and then some waterproof tape around the glue
you could have got a backdoor with tge prongs on
What do u mean? I am interested
Black Bones there is a backdoor which comes with the sportsman mount that has the mounting prongs on
is there a link for such a thing as I cant find it on google ? TIA
yo dude thanks a lot :D
