    - Foxy Lady
    - Hey Joe
    - Stone Free
    - Fire
    - Purple Haze
    Jimi Hendrix - guitar, vocals
    Noel Redding - bass guitar
    Mitch Mitchell - drums, percussion
James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as "arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music".
Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix began playing guitar at the age of 15. In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and trained as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division; he was granted an honorable discharge the following year. Soon afterward, he moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, and began playing gigs on the Chitlin' Circuit, earning a place in the Isley Brothers' backing band and later with Little Richard, with whom he continued to work through mid-1965. He then played with Curtis Knight and the Squires before moving to England in late 1966 after being discovered by Linda Keith, who in turn interested bassist Chas Chandler of the Animals in becoming his first manager. Within months, Hendrix had earned three UK top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: "Hey Joe", "Purple Haze", and "The Wind Cries Mary". He achieved fame in the U.S. after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and in 1968 his third and final studio album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the U.S.; it was Hendrix's most commercially successful release and his first and only number one album. The world's highest-paid performer, he headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 before his accidental death from barbiturate-related asphyxia on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.
Hendrix was inspired musically by American rock and roll and electric blues. He favored overdriven amplifiers with high volume and gain, and was instrumental in utilizing the previously undesirable sounds caused by guitar amplifier feedback. He helped to popularize the use of a wah-wah pedal in mainstream rock, and was the first artist to use stereophonic phasing effects in music recordings. Holly George-Warren of Rolling Stone commented: "Hendrix pioneered the use of the instrument as an electronic sound source. Players before him had experimented with feedback and distortion, but Hendrix turned those effects and others into a controlled, fluid vocabulary every bit as personal as the blues with which he began."
Hendrix was the recipient of several music awards during his lifetime and posthumously. In 1967, readers of Melody Maker voted him the Pop Musician of the Year, and in 1968, Rolling Stone declared him the Performer of the Year. Disc and Music Echo honored him with the World Top Musician of 1969 and in 1970, Guitar Player named him the Rock Guitarist of the Year. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Rolling Stone ranked the band's three studio albums, Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland, among the 100 greatest albums of all time, and they ranked Hendrix as the greatest guitarist and the sixth greatest artist of all time.

He was a great, great guitarist. But even more so, he was a great composer, and everything in his playing shows this. Players today just shred, even blues players like Sheppard and Sayce. Jimi...he created voices and stories

I can safely say that his vocals from this performance are some of the most clear and powerful of his live recordings. HE WAS ON during this set.

Yeah sounds like his voice was cracking a lot like he had sore throat or something. Sublime playing. Great recording too like you say..

This was recorded for North German radio at their broadcasting house, hence the excellent audio quality. The name "Funkhaus" (not "Funk House"!) means something like "broadcast studio" or "broadcasting centre".

      @christopherwright2622 11 місяців тому +1

The separation of instruments and his voice makes the best live performance of the JHE. You can even hear him playing with his teeth, making the sharp stinging sound of the strings.
The vocals are top notch for him, energetic and even anxious. He’s even in pitch. He remembers all the lyrics and adds so much emotion.
The band itself sounds fresh and they know that this is something totally new and exciting.

I was always hangin out for new material. Janie really has no idea. Now I am not too surprized about what is available. I am surprized at the amount of material that is available. I don't like how the record company treated Noel and Mitch after Jimi died.
Okay, Jimi was doing his Band of Gypsy stuff and things had moved on. But for the label to tell them that they were not going to release any more records and offer them peanuts out of court, when they knew that they were lying was an act of bad faith.
Even back in 1970 labels knew that dead artists still sold records.

It happened right before he died. Jimi wanted those two back, good reason for it.

The real crime of Monica Danneman is to ponder what his next steps would have been. He already had the orchestral/big band/jazz thing on the boards; he had the "side band" thing started, so that he could stay with the Mitch/JImi/Billy thing while branching out to other areas. It would have been interesting to see if he could have truly gotten away from the dreaded "human jukebox" routine where he'd be playing "Foxy Lady",humping the guitar years later and getting moderate applause for genre-busting music. Buddy Holly wanted to do it. JImi wanted to do it. David Bowie probably was the closest ever to changing the career vector of his music and keeping some level of popularity...without having to be "Ziggy".

Yes. It is hard to believe. I was lucky enough to have seen the Jimi Hendrix Experience twice a half century ago (1968). It's a memory I will treasure until the day I die. Nobody compares.

@@shruggzdastr8-facedclown Still alive, in his early 80s. Billy Cox is likely still with us, because he never allowed himself to wittingly over-indulge in the drugs that plagued those performers back in the day.

Even though the reverb is really exaggerated, its really good hearing a show where the vocals are really up in the mix. I can even hear Noel! So often the vocals and the song-ness of the songs were buried in the guitar jams and Jimi seemed pretty indifferent to the singing.

Dave De Your Right. Hendrix is on tour here in Germany, where Are You Experienced? was recorded along the way, in various studios. This is the Experience right out of the London Clubs. After the tour, with a phone call from Paul Mc Cartney, Hendrix goes to the U.S. to play at the Monterey Pop Festival. Brian Jones travels there with him. Jones is filmed there with Hendrix as he paints flowers on his guitar. People in America think Jimi is from England.

I love all this newly discovered Hendrix material. You all should check out Randy Hansen. From the Pacific northwest like Hendrix. He actually sounds, and even looks like Jimi, but about 10 years younger. Incredible! I wonder when in 1967 this was recorded? March 18th? My classic rock band Uncle Salty, (look us up on facebook), does several Hendrix tunes along with Beatles, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones, S.R.V., ZZ Top, and so many more! Rock on!! Bryan.

@@musselchee9560 I caught Randy Hansen's act, back in the mid 1970s, in Seattle, when he first became noticed. As a younger man back then, he DID pull off a decent impression of looking like Jimi--and his playing was close to Jimi's also!...as a Hendrix fanatic, I was blown away by Randy back then...and even now, though he does not really look like Jimi anymore, his playing is similar to that of his hero, Jimi Hendrix! I am proud of both Jimi and Randy for being from my home town of Seattle.
