If you watch carefully, you can see what sets Rory apart from other guitar heroes...he is not 'playing' his guitar. It is literally part of him, like a hand or foot. It's not mastery of the instrument, it's literally a part of him. He coaxes sounds and emotions from that '61 Strat that nobody else could and never will. It bends to his will and command, like a well trained dog. There is no conscious thought in most of the playing, and he concentrates on the vocals and stage show while the Strat seemingly plays itself. This is why Rory excelled in live shows and why he was different than anyone else.

I am in gratitude for Rory Gallaghers brief time on earth, and the music he created, and left us every day. Although being "rewarded" for his music and principles was never his "top priority", I am in contact with The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, at this prime time of exposure for their biased and opaque process in the induction and recognition of artists based on "mastery" and "ability to articulate". Stands to reason that using this criteria, an Irishman, deceased almost 30 years ago, would be discounted with "women" and other "marginalized" voices (and I'm quoting their representatives' biased statements). Although they have banished Jann Wenner, that stain is theirs, and it is worth rallying for Rory. Not because the opinion of people like that qualifies him, but because he is remembered and loved by fans, acknowledged publicly by musicians, especially British, who made their bones on the Blues he never ceased to acknowledge. They can also nominate him, but according to Rock Hall, haven't effectively done so. For me, it boils down to - as Critic Cameron Crowe put it - Rory Gallagher made music "that mattered". Put the pressure on Rock Hall to finally open up a Fair, transparent voting process.

The Rockpalast concerts are great. Real live music on TV, no commercials, no smart phones or computers, no autotune...just pure music. This is my favorite Rory Gallagher live recording. So much energy and fun and the band is real tight. I really miss this.
I never did believe that there was one better, until i see this show. Rory IS,, the better,,, i mean, better. I Just feel Sorry. And, also the Band. He IS not underated, maybe the Band IS. Better.
Here's what I think: Rory wasn't merely a musician, but an artist. He really loved the guitar. 🎀 I've been a fan of his since I first listened to "Irish Tour '74". After that, I followed him during many concerts in Denmark and Sweden. Rory peaked around 1977-78, I think, but made some fantastic albums after that, also. I think Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott were true "brothers in arms". 💋
Danke WDR.
Ah "Rory" a hidden gem of rock music... Totaly Underrated and sadly forgotten these days .... I listen to his music since 30 years and still i got this "damn he is a god" moment...🙌
During this era, Rory was carefree and joyful off-stage too. Despite all the people writing about him since, stating he was not happy many of whom never met him, I assure you when I met him first-hand and then hung out with him after a gig, I met a truly beautiful confident yet unassuming kind soul.
I have to admit that I have overlooked Rory Gallagher and he is probably one of the most underappreciated guitarists. This is a fabulous performance! Rockpalast never disappoints.
Underappreciated? Ask The Edge, Slash, Alex Lifeson, Brian May, and innumerable other world-class guitarists: _they_ all know who he was. He's like Jeff Beck: not as well-known as many, but universally respected & admired by guitarists.
I was living in Germany then. My parents let me stay up late and watch this live on t.v. A 15 year old getting his mind blown. Amazing happening upon this vid again 46 years later..
I was a 14 year old living in Holland. In those days in Holland you only had 2 Dutch channels on tv and 3 German channels. There was almost never live music on tv. Rockpalast was an exception. My parents let my brother and me stay up late and watch the show. A concert like that was a big thing then. I've been a fan of Rory Gallagher ever since.
lucky 2 see rory 3 times in bristol in small venues in the 70s,i was prob 16,17,now 65,over the years ive seen all the so called great guitarists dont get me wrong they are all great but theres only 1 true great guitar genius,MR WILLIAM RORY GALLAGHER,hes jamming in heaven with bonham drums, andy fraser bass, kieth emerson keybourds, wow wot a line up,RIP all of you, hope to see you up there if and when i go.
I 'uv secret agent with the great drumming by Rod diath, the great bass by Gerry mc Avoy, and lou martins great keyboards. They enhance the music so much, an amazing band that moves us so much that we get pissed as a fart on just the music alone. I never get tired of listening to Rory and his fab band. RIP RORY RIP WILGAR RIP LOU RIP TED RIP ROD ---- Rory UNVERGESSEN
Truly missed an unforgotten...
@@hugostahlbaum8714 Gerry McAvoy spielt in der BAND OF FRIENDS - Band.
Whow....Rory and his band in all their glory...such a masterly show!
There was, is and never will be no one like him...... my ultimate hero.......always playing like there's no tomorrow!!
I can't top what's already been said. All true. Thanks all you Rory fans.🎸🇨🇮☘️
@@waywardchild4678 yeah ❤️
Rory braucht keine hall of fame.
Er ist in den herzen der menschen.
Nicht zu ermessen, was diese
Konzerte für uns in der damaligen
Ddr bedeutet haben. Rory rip
The Rockpalast concerts are great. Real live music on TV, no commercials, no smart phones or computers, no autotune...just pure music. This is my favorite Rory Gallagher live recording. So much energy and fun and the band is real tight. I really miss this.
Johan check Rock goes to college. Better mix in my
humble opinion..... jt
@@johnsingley66 Thanks! You´re right! Great
Well, there was Autotune on that Arbiter bass drum there...........for-telling the future, kidding. Great show, amazing band!!!!
Not to mention great weed. Hawaiian was a smash hit.
The Old Grey Whistle Test was also cool as hell !
Rory was incredible. One of the very best and finest.
I never did believe that there was one better, until i see this show. Rory IS,, the better,,, i mean, better. I Just feel Sorry. And, also the Band. He IS not underated, maybe the Band IS. Better.
Rory was full of talent and class! So deeply missed.
Rory for ever.....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The best rock 'n' roll band EVER!! Thank you guys...
My timeless hero, real Checked Shirt Wizard. Brilliant, natural, raw guitarist and pure genius. Nice one Rory, nice one, son!
Here's what I think: Rory wasn't merely a musician, but an artist. He really loved the guitar. 🎀
I've been a fan of his since I first listened to "Irish Tour '74". After that, I followed him during many concerts in Denmark and Sweden.
Rory peaked around 1977-78, I think, but made some fantastic albums after that, also.
I think Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott were true "brothers in arms". 💋
Absolutely 💯
Rory Gallagher IMORTAL o melhor Guitar de sempre
Danke WDR.
Rory du warst mein absoluter lieblingsmusiker!!! R
. I. P.
Pure and natural! A man and his guitar not forgetting the musicians supporting him!
Wow, Rory is totally on fire here. He looks and sounds incredible. What an amazing talent and one of the greatest guitarists ever.
why am i not surprised at all to find you here? 😂
@@wrongplanet1717 Hahaha hello! Fancy seeing you here!
Not ONE of, .....THE greatest guitar player.
Absolutely
Yes
Ah "Rory" a hidden gem of rock music...
Totaly Underrated and sadly forgotten these days ....
I listen to his music since 30 years
and still i got this "damn he is a god" moment...🙌
This beautiful soul graced this planet with his presence and unrivaled talent for an all to short while.
Beautifully said
But it's what's going on between the chords that makes Rory stand out
I just love the tunning
While half way through the tune
Oh my Rory you did it again. Can’t touch this
During this era, Rory was carefree and joyful off-stage too.
@@JAP42 do you know their contact information?
I was living in Germany then. My parents let me stay up late and watch this live on t.v. A 15 year old getting his mind blown. Amazing happening upon this vid again 46 years later..
I was a 14 year old living in Holland. In those days in Holland you only had 2 Dutch channels on tv and 3 German channels. There was almost never live music on tv. Rockpalast was an exception. My parents let my brother and me stay up late and watch the show. A concert like that was a big thing then. I've been a fan of Rory Gallagher ever since.
Rory is the best guitarist and frontman all rolled into one!
DANKE an das WDR - TEAM. Von mir aus könnt Ihr JEDE Nacht RORY GALLagher senden wie Space - Night !!!! DANKE nochmals !
Sonja you love your Rory!! Same as g'yal
🎸❤🎸Grüße aus der Blues- Rock City...Ost-Berlin..
Unforgettable, which is why his guitar now hangs above his favorite bar.
He belongs in guitar heaven🌞🌤☀🌈🏑🥍
Love you Rory Gallagher and rest in peace.💜
His guitar is being sold to the highest bidder. Shame Irish government should buy it. He brings so much to the country every year.
His guitar is being sold. 😢
Wahnsinnig guter Musiker
lucky 2 see rory 3 times in bristol in small venues in the 70s,i was prob 16,17,now 65,over the years ive seen all the so called great guitarists dont get me wrong they are all great but theres only 1 true great guitar genius,MR WILLIAM RORY GALLAGHER,hes jamming in heaven with bonham drums, andy fraser bass, kieth emerson keybourds, wow wot a line up,RIP all of you, hope to see you up there if and when i go.
With his incredible passion and skills he could make audiences half crazy.........really a joy to watch!
To have been there in the front row & to catch his eye & be graced with a smile from the Irish wizard!
What a blessing to hear this just like kennedy on violin a world class artist.
@@Ian-bq7gp This is so very true Ian...for me he's just the Paganini of the electric guitar and with the other three giants it even sounds as a whole orchestra!
Rockpalast Nächte waren immer gut❤
have loved Rory playing guitar for 55 years but just starting to appreciate how brilliant his voice is
Give rory and his amazing band all the air play n radio time. You wouldn't be listening or buying any other cd . Or record. Rory forever the greatest .r.i.p.
Nice one Rory, we want another one!" Immer wieder ein Genuss!!!
Rory is what I always wanted from Clapton, but he never satisfied. Rory delivered.
Clapton who?
Germany always loved Rory 👏
So do some fortunate Mississippians.☘️
Oh, yes !!!
March, 1974 in South Bend, IN as opening act for Rare Earth. He stole the night....First time I heard of him.
RORY GALLAGHER - 👍🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🍷🍾🇺🇦 .
He was able to express his feelings directly with the guitar like no other. All his life energy was in his music. He was the last of the independents. A lonely, beloved legend. I saw this concert as a little boy and bought all his albums.
lucky to have seen Rory many times. what a genuine nice man. his playing was flat out and bad ass. miss him.
Remember him playing going to my home town Birmingham odeon top priority tour people dancing in the aisles priceless memories of my fav guitarist of all time RIP
He was the best and not reached until today!
It's sad Rory didnt continue with this band after 78. Love them all and got 2 books one writte rvy G. McAvoi. I saw this legendary koncert live on German TV with a pal. Fantastic guitar playing from Rory G.
This is one of, if not his best performance,. I've watched/listen to the video every morning
Rory being Rory.
One of his best filmed performances.
A ledgend of a musican and A ledgend of a man
Unbelievable what energy he and his band had ... and that one day after the concert in Montreux!!!! We sat with all our friends in front of the TV in the night from 23 to 24 July 1977 and could not believe it
The greateast Irishman Legend, forever missed, forever loved 😢❤
dont forget Georgie Best
