Picardo is actually a classically-trained singer. He's showcased himself on several shows, Voyager included, and when he appears at conventions he's usually good about requests to belt out a few bars or two. If he wasn't an actor he could easily live his life on Broadway and never worry about paychecks or fame again.
Honestly the bloopers for this whole episode would have been great. This show was fun. Probably the last genuinely fun season of Star Trek before they started getting serious :/
@Marley that's why I've connected more with Voyager than the other ones. I'm just more invested in all the characters, especially The Doctor and Seven and the humor of the show plus I love the dynamics too. Though I'm starting to like Next Generation now that I'm watching more of that one.
This episode is the best thing Trek has ever put out. I work at an Italian restaurant, and La Donna e Mobile plays about once a month. I have to contain my insane laughter because it reminds me of this.
i have always loved the way the doctor drops things. he does it a few times in the series. just holds it really purposefully in the air and drops it. anyone else would toss it aside, chuck it on a table or put it down purposefully on the table. but not him. nope. this belongs on the floor. its like careful carelessness. i dont know why it appeals to me so much.
+llorenç sigler i did not know that. I think he's mocking the fact that he's a hologram. If he we’re to be shut down, the object would simply just fall with no secondary or tertiary momentum.
I realize this was 3 years ago but I thought it'd be good to say that Garret Wang said on the delta flyers podcast that it was completely his decision to do that, no one told him to

Data just had no character development, as soon as anything came along that would develop him, it was swept aside and ignored. Like Emotions being a good example. The Doctor is far more likeable. And not just because of who plays him, but that certainly helps!
Star Trek will always remain unique over the generations. There will never be a TV series that employs people of such versatile skills in the arts from Broadway to theatre and even opera. The talent and match of personalities is truly amazing. Robert Picardo was an excellent doctor that personified humanity to the fullest.
Tim Russ, by far, had the hardest part to keep from losing it! How he got through this without laughing hysterically, I don't know because I was dying after he got hypo sprayed! My stomach hurt for nearly half an hour laughing so hysterically!!!
When I first started watching voyager it was getting a little boring until I saw Robert Picardo's Doctor character, and he took me through the entire series, best character ever.
I honestly liked him better earlier on in the series when he was angry and hated everyone all the time... and sang less. But this song was good. Really though, the writers were terrible on Voyager. They started off with such great characters and an interesting premise, and then slowly over time made all the characters blander and blander, and all the little details about them got lost and ignored. Chakotay, he just turned into Janeway's yes-man; no more American Indian stuff, no more Maquis methods. Neelix stopped being an insecure bad guy who was trying to do good, and became a happy-go-lucky caricature. Torres became a model Starfleet officer pretty much by the second season. They replaced Kes, who had the potential to live out an entire lifespan by the end of the show, with a giant boob lady. Janeway went from having principles to pretty much doing whatever the fuck she felt like at any moment for no reason at all. Kim at least stopped getting abducted by aliens every episode, but he had the least character development of all, and they didn't even promote him. His only real character development happened in an alternate timeline. Paris was alright, he at least had an arc, but along the way he lost almost all his charm.
@fakecubed I heavily disagree there. The character just got much richer the more development and stories they developed for him, his and Seven's growing friendship definitely enhanced the show too. Characters have to grow or else they'd get stale. How could you not love the Doctor's singing? Do you really think Picardo would've stuck around if his character had zero development? That show would've fell apart without him. I didn't think it was possible for anyone not to love it.
@@fakecubed While 7 of 9’s costume design was ridiculous, she probably has some of the more better writing outside of the Doctor. It’s a shame that Chakotay and Harry Kim never got too many good episodes. Chakotay especially given that the Native American advisor for the show was a total fraud.

Robert Picardo was the only character with any actual character in Voyager. Everyone else is played like a cardboard cutout or a psychopath.

Just rewatching on the eve of DragonCon 2021....Bravo! Bravo!
Doctor was boss here.
I love how everyone else is paying polite attention at the beginning, but Neelix has his eyes closed and is ALL ON BOARD for being whisked away into the Doctor's word painting
Gotta love the comedy xD Star Trek can be too serious...
The camera work here is a masterpiece.
I can't recall a funnier episode than this one, for sure!
Hierarchy agrees!
Excellent scene from an excellent episode. Thanks for the upload
