- An epic Mini Vs Ford Mustang battle during the historic touring cars race at the historic sports and racing association Autumn Historic at Wakefield Park.

These vehicles exploited each other's strengths and weaknesses. The Mustang is a heavier non handling accelerating in turns. But it's Superior horsepower in the straightaways shows it's strengths.
The mini which shows Superior acceleration in turns and handling gets exploited in straightaways.
That was interesting to watch.
Yeah that how I saw it also! Imagine a different track...
On a short track with few straightaways the Mini can keep up. 1 lap around say Lemans though and that Mini wouldl never see the Mustang again. Til the Mustang lapped him
The Mustang carries a lot of extra weight to slow it down. The 1964 Ford Falcons outclassed the Minis in rally monte carlo 1964 but was given a "big engine penalty" that the jury (british) invented late satuday night) to give the Mini the win
The mini looks more fun to drive/race.
Wow great racing between two skillful and respectful drivers. Brilliant.
Now that’s a real car race!
I don’t think the MINI braked at all in the turns 😂
Mini
I don’t think it could go fast enough to need brakes
I raced minis for years,
You use left foot braking only a bit ,
with accelerator to the board.
Yes, and that mini driver was "caning it"! 😄
😂
Amazing how the mini was never originally designed with the intention to be used for racing application. Just shows what great diverse cars they are.
To be fair, Mustangs weren't designed to be race cars either.
Two cars designed in very different ways.
Mustang: Very fast in a very straight line.
Mini: Very fast in a not very straight line.
I'm sorry I can't take the mini Cooper seriously 😂
@@JamesSmith-tk2pb It's an Austin mini! Cooper had nothing to do with mini at that time yet.
A modified mini for car sports is not a mini. It's a racing car with small engine and body.
Great stuff !!! The Mini is punching WAY above his weight , but they're fighting in a phone box :)
Yep...Race a Mini and you're brakelight bulbs will last 100 years!
*your
Misspell a word and troll teachers will come out of the woodwork for 100 years!!!
Misspell a word and troll teachers will come out of the woodwork for 100 years!!!
@Tomakak "Whole incident??".....Tomakak, I can see this is really keeping you up at night. Chill and find yourself a girlfriend!!
@Tomakak Ahh poor baby boy got his feelings hurt, blow on it honey britches it will feel better.
This is gold! I remember watching a very similar battle at Lakeside about 25 or so years ago. Mini would zip around the Mustang in corners, Mustang would blast past on straights. 😂
Heard the theme from Benny Hill the whole time!😂
I’ll put 100 quiz the mini driver is having the best time and grinding from ear to ear , actually I bet they were both driving round laughing
That looked like great fun for both drivers
Lesson: never underestimate low horsepower front wheel drives. You'll regret it
Never underestimate lightweight
Actually, front of a Mini is bloomin heavy, cast iron engine.
Mustang is horse power
@@Radfordperson most engines are cast iron. Only recently they are more likely to be aluminium. But they aren't actually much lighter anyway
@@Radfordperson The A series engine by itself isn't particularly heavy, I used to lift them up and carry them way back when I had minis and I'm no Mr Universe. The complete engine and gearbox with all ancillaries weighs about 140kg (~308 lbs).
Best racing that I've ever seen by two of the best competitors. Would be interesting to see the whole race.
Awesome stuff, and I noticed the two of them made no headway on the blue mini ahead of them. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing to watch. In so many ways that little Mini is like an english bull dog. Representing that little tiny island nation, that took on a germany with all its size and might. It stood its ground and showed that being small is no reason to give up or fear the giant. The Mini is the greatest car ever designed. The story of its life is one of inspiration. Its history is the best of the best as it represents a people who never stood down in the worst of times. It is the spirit of England made real into the steel and gears. It lives as a reminder of a Great nation, a Great Britain. I hope that I live to see the day that the real Mini lives again. Designed, built and Assembled by British hands with british steel and the British spirit. It is the only car that has ever made me cry. It touches my emotions in a way that only the finest of art can.
They do these sort of races at goodwood and they are very close, Minis all over the mustangs and falcons in the bends and American V8s for the straights...very entertaining to watch🇬🇧😎
Great racing pure and simple no overpaid ego,s and no politics
That blue mini wasn't having any trouble
What a mini adventure, awesome stuff
Classic example of Power vs Handling..
Love 'Stangs but adore Minis
Classic "Nah f*ck You, Nah f*ck you, Nah f*ck you deadlock"
Good battle.
You've got to love it. Plenty of blocking and hard racing!
i couldn't help laughing the whole time
That mustang was slowing the mini down lol
My thoughts exactly! If only the Mini could stay ahead through the straights, it would be well away. Still, amazing dogfight.
"Slowing him down" yes, that's racing - being able to defend a position despite the guy behind having more pace through the corners is a racing skill.
Momentum vs hp!
That Mini carries momentum great!
Had a CRX and these low hp/low weight cars are so much fun and are fairly peppy/zippy!
P.s. current Mustang owner as well and no bias!
More please!
That's an excellent game .
Pimp m'y mini..😀👍..vert good car desing and performer by a clever man.Stil loving you❤
another great drive by Alex, great stuff
Guy might as well just remove the brakes altogether and save some weight lmao.
Actual CCTV footage of the landlord trying to get his rent without fixing the damn door!
Remember seing the minis against the Galaxy at Brands 60 years ago
1 on each corner AMAZING
I love watching the rear wheel lift as the Mini goes around the turns
Mini Driver: "Brakes are for the weak"
Also Mini Driver: *goes up on 2 wheels*
....awesome...
David and Goliath
289 verses 78 Cubic inches unless I am mistaken. Great watch, John, Australia.
A lot of people don't know that the 65 and 66 Mustangs were the lightest Mustangs ever made and therefore can corner better than almost any other muscle car of it's era.
The stock Mustang front end sucked! In a hard turn the outside wheel would camber outward, causing major oversteer. Shelby figured it out, but hard cornering could cause the GT350 front suspension to break.
I bet the Mustang driver was screaming POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!
What are those models of mustangs?
Good video👌👍😎
Two great cars, one built for the American city block road and highway layout and the other built for A roads and the awesomely tight twisting British country lanes.
Mini Brake pedal removed for weight reduction~
The Mustang was blocking the Mini and taking a different line on the bends depending on the overtaking position of the Mini.
That looks like a fuck tonne of fun.
Mustang=120/270 bhp
Mini=54/75bhp......I think the mini is still being made in England with all original toolings.(see Mike Brewer)
Not sure of the Ford.
Love the sound of the Mini! Sounds like a hive of angry bees.
True cat and mouse battle, power is nothing without control.
Just watched these two beasts at eastern creek 👍
Right hand drive 'Stang? Either someone flipped the negative, or they're in AustraliA.
Australia
so cute mini
The mini was agile thru the corners while the had more grunt on the straight.
The blue mini in front must have some mumbo, the mustang couldn't make any ground on it.
They would of enjoyed that race so much and showed each other the respect not to hit into one and another .this is what racing is all about .good.clean racing nothing better and sometimes it doesnt matter if you win or not
You come away and say damn that was a good race
I know I use to race .I did win from time to time but had many races like this one
Give a Mini some corners and it`s in its element, awesome.
Wow thats a cool little race track! great for minis too :)
They couldn't catch that blue mini though could they !.
Everybody knows Surf Blue Minis are the quickest...ask me how I know 😉
@@veggivet737 How about Willow Green!
@@Radfordperson A very close second, indeed! 😁
LOVE THIS RACE NEVER CHEERED ON A LITTLE CAR BEFORE BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Three wheel salute from the Mini!
Mini was trying to pick twice of .its size but i didn't work
Juilo saludos Ecuador
The mini reminds me of those small dogs who play with the larger ones at the dog park
Anyone else remember Bob Gardner in his green metallic mustang, vs, Bill McGovern in his electric blue Hillman Imp (pimp), late 70s, some of the best & closest racing I have ever seen. The mustang throbbing round Silverstone with the Pimp screaming at 10,000 rpm (+?) up his exhaust pipe. The crowd went crazy, they did a lap of honour together & hugged each other on the podium.
I once owned an Hillman Imp. Could never imagine racing one, though. They seemed fragile.
I wonder how fast these mini’s get with a midengine Honda VTEC rebuild at around 500hp with AWD or RWD
The greater the horsepower, the better? A car with a short wheelbase will be difficult to control, whether awd or rwd, and the mini will lose its flexibility and handling. It may not be faster on this kind of track.
@@daviddou1408 swb, more than 500hp, Rwd or awd, without any electronic control system... Do you know why the Group B event was later terminated
weight and power x agile and light
Corner speed is amazing in the mini, but damn that mustang v8 pulls in the straights
I can't watch formula 1 anymore but really enjoy this stuff!
For sure, I haven’t watch F1 for years. Racing cars with different strengths on the right circuit is great. In Australia old Bathurst was good for that reason, long straights and tight across the mountain. Now every car is the same pretty much.
This is every bit as exciting as F1
Minis came with a lifetime warranty on brakes.
He is weight shifting?
The Revolutionary War
名勝負!
Is this in Philip island
Wakefield Park, between Sydney and Canberra.
That mustang driver working hard lol
At the time in America, the mustang was called a small car. Just look at the size of the mini cooper. When it pulls up next to the mustang. The mini cooper makes the mustang. Look like a boat!
Esse mini na perseguição do musteng parece um beija-flor perseguindo um gavião.kkkkkkk
The greatest car of all time : MINI !!!!!
Mustang are grest..but mini ..awesome..🐴🐝
What does that Mini weigh? About ten pounds?
We just moved out mini and a friend towed it. I had to find out.....between 1,265 -1,400 pounds.
Great little scrap
It's always enjoyable to watch a mini hound a big V8.
@@BlendLineTV horses for courses , if it was a bigger circuit with longer straights.........
Someone insert Eurobeat into this now... :D
It looked like the guy in the mustang was being pestered by the equivalent of a fly buzzing around him at a barbecue. Could have used a fly swatter.
I have a friend who races mini in the upper states of America......he is still beating the Ford Mustang round the corners and depending upon the track can even win races. He tells me that he rarely has to touch the brakes.
They are still a weapon of a car on the right track. We've got a few places here in Aus where they still regularly feature in the top 5 in historic races.
Bigger wheel is always an advantage
Remember that time when the MINI was actually mini?
Next round
Mini cooper vs trueno ae86
Lots of positive Mini comments. That's fine. Probably from the UK. And that's fine. Couldn't help but notice that the Mustang walks away from the mini on the straights. I have a 65 Mustang FB, so yes, I'm biased.
No skill in that.
My grandmother can drive fast in a straight line.
Yes, but a blue mini stayed ahead of it.
Nigel Charman Takes more skill to corner a Mustang than a Mini.
More Hp and Tq then the mini. It blows right passed them
Gato e rato kkkkkk.....Brasil 2020
O carrinho do mister Bean deu trabalho
Appendix J
This is fucking hilarious nice battle though .
I'd still want the stang.
Yea, minis were an amazing little car, quite brilliant. I’ll take the stand though.
Yeah...😀loving all the Cougars, Mustangs, Cudas and Challengers...but: Even Carroll Shelby would give thumbs up to the little Mini...american muscle does not work in curves....great
english vs farmer in usa
Those mini s came with 12 in wheels
It's all fun and games until the little hatch doesn't need to brake through the corners
hatch? both saloons technically.
I had 7 or 8 Mini's and they are just the best fun to drive. It is far superior to the Mustang when it comes to roadholding and cornering. Most American muscle cars flop around like a dk in a bucket!
The original Minis were the Terriers of motoring. Annoy the bejeebers out of someone by snapping at their ankles all day if need be until the opponent is worn out or trips over. Then just scoot past and change in to top gear to nick off. Surprisingly roomy inside even for a 195cm bloke.
They were such a potent little car, and a Bathurst winner too boot!
That poor mustang was running away for its life.
Mr. Bean is in a hurry.
okay i have question. i pretty sure that these cars some sort racing package done to them ,i.e. cooling system, intake, exhaust and may be tires. but other then that are they stock ?? because if the motor itself, gearing and rear end is stock then i would be very impressed with the mini. but then again I've been impressed with the old mini. my grandfather had one years ago and it was it an awesome little car and great car to drive. i had i friend who a "newer" mini and i drove it a couple times and it sucked. it was one of the biggest POS's that i have ever driven. why do motor companies have take great cars and fuck them all up and then call them "new and improved" instead leaving them the fuck alone?? the old vw bug used to another awesome little car until they "improved" it, fucked it all up and turned it into nothing more then a rolling POS.
The A series engine in the Mini has been around for a long time - put into A35, Minor, A40, Midget, Sprite,Sports Racers galore and so on - and as such is capable of taking a very high state of tune and very successfully. Then add the road holding of the Mini, like nail the throttle down and slide the car, and behold!!
Joaninha valente da peste !😁
@Gregory Sims 😁👍
