This is what I love about drag racing. You can just turn any car you have on hand that was your old street car or you got for a few hundred bucks and then slowly turn it into a drag car and not spend 10k dollars to go racing you can literally build a 10 second 1/4 mile car for 5k if you do it right by getting a car that has no title or salvaged title or been wrecked and fixable for few hundred dollars then sell all the interior parts and stuff your not going to need to people who need them to fix or restore cars then use that money to build and buy parts and then throw a extra 5k or less at it and bam you got you a nice little grudge racing or bracket racing car that you didn't spend much money on building. And the lighter the car you start with the cheaper it will be to run mid to low 10s cause you can just strip it down to nothing and make it into a oversized go kart with a cage like a Miatas or older 4 cylinder rwd cars from 90s and 80s are perfect for that as well. I saw a guy with a 87 mustang that had the 2.3 4 cylinder in it and he stripped it down and tied the subframes together with tubing and made it into a over sized go kart basically with a cage and put a 6.0 vortec on it from a 2006 Chevy 2500 HD which is a gas engine. Then he converted it to carberated with a 900 CFM holly double pumper with no choke or vacuum advance high rise intake headers, bigger valve springs head work done to it msd ignition that he got used from me out of one of my oval track cars and he changed the gear ratio in the rear end, didn't run a power steering pump or belt driven water pump and a very small racing alternator cause he does drive it on the street from time to time. And he runs 10.6-10.8 consistently on street tires and prepped track. With no prep he runs flat 11s-10.9 cause he does get slightly bit of tire spin off the line and he doesn't have any type of racing suspension under it just stock suspension that it came with from the factory and he just replaced the bushings and that's it. So pretty good for a simple not over priced complicated mid 10 sec drag car. And his alternator is driven off the rear end not the crank pulley. He has dual electric fans and a trans cooler with a small electric fan as well since he is running a built turbo 350 that he got from me that was the only trans we could run on the orielly super truck asphalt oval track series back when I was 12. And that automatic is bad to the bone he had it rebuilt last year after 5 years of running it the way he got it from me and it already had 56 race nights on it plus been sitting for all those years I touched and never used after I got out of that class. I'm turning a old oval track car into a drag car now cause the class for the chassis is gone and will never come back which is a metric front clip tube frame rest of the way out, Ford nine inch floater rear with Detroit NASCAR locker track bar that's fully adjustable, spring buckets on all 4 corners with weight jack bolts to be able to adjust ride height and the weights of each corner ofnthe car plus cross, rear bite whoch is difference between rr and LR weight, and able to adjust how much weight of the car is on the back wheels vs front which is nice to have jack bolts for drag racing quick adjustments on the fly in swconds with a ratchet and extension cause the top of the jack bolts is exposed for easy acces when hood and body is on car. The frame is all x braced and tied together, anything you can imagine to be adjusted very easily it has even pinion angle can be adjusted just with the turn of a ratchet and extension no socket needed. I'm putting a 410 cubic inch N/A small block Chevy in it this weekend once I do that it will be ready to hit the track for the first time as a drag car. I got a drag racing team helping me with the scales and setting it up suspension wise for drag racing and not oval racing. I wonder why you don't see more and more of old oval track cars that are obsolete turned into drag cars. You can get a full tube chassis 110 in or 108 inch wheel base chassis for a few hundred bucks and it has everything on it you need already to adjust suspension all you gotta do is clean it up repaint the frame and cage and put your power train in it and go drag racing.
