    I have a 2017 Golf R, I test drove the i30N and loved it. So much more fun and engaging. The Golf is very good, fast, effortless, a plush interior and clearly more premium than the Hyundai but to me it feels more like a fast saloon than a hot hatch. You have to push it to enjoy it by which time your going too fast.
    Hyundai have nailed it with the N, perfect balance of power and handling, reminds me of the Fiesta ST. Shame we don't get the sunroof in the UK.

      While I agree that the Golf GTi / R range does look to have better materials on the inside.
      The price of a Golf R here is $52,990 . Compared to $39,990 for the I30N. So that a 1/3 of the price of the I30N extra for the Gold R.
      So you would have to think that the Golf R would have a more better build quality to it..

    Nice review guys. I did a test drive a couple of weeks ago, and my dad-cans were bouncing around in N-mode. But other than that, yeah a great drive. I drove through the hills (in a 60km/h zone) and just left it in 3rd, and it pulled out of every corner. Great drive.

      Hi Paul Howard - thanks for your comment. You're absolutely right mate, the torque delivery when you leave it in 3rd gear is really nice isn't it? Thanks for watching!

    Love the performance figures, the 7 year warranty, the fact that you can fang it on a racetrack without voiding your warranty plus the overall 'bang for your buck'. Now - bring on the DCT because the last thing I want around the burbs is a third pedal! Acceleration times should also come down with a DCT and things can only get better given it's Hyundai's first time crack at this segment of the market.

    Awesome! Congrats on getting one to review. You guys must have had a blast!
    I was so dam close to getting one but ended up going for a golf gti 7.5. My feelings after watching this video is "the grass is always greener on the other side"/ I should have just went for the i30n! :(
    I felt I made a mature choice going for the golf gti 7.5 but the inner child in me is kicking myself for not going for the i30n because its more crazy fun and you only live once but oh well..i did what i did :|
    Main reasons why I went for the GTI 7.5 (totally Justify myself here >.

      Hi Kwa Nguyen - thanks for your comments and congrats on the GTI mate. It's still a really great choice for a "fun and family friendly" car. I can fully understand why you went for the Golf (premium feel, refinement and availability of a DSG in Sydney's horrible traffic), but you are right - the i30 N is definitely more "raw" (in a good way) than a GTI, which I think just makes it a bit more "fun" and engaging to drive. I do think that not having the availability of a dual-clutch "auto" transmission in the i30 N at the moment might be putting a few people off buying it right now, but the guys at Hyundai tell me one is coming next year that should handle the extra power and torque of the N. Maybe the i30 N with DCT might be the next car for you in a few years? Thanks for watching and thanks for the idea of a "coffee and cars" meet up sometime too!

      Hi Joseph - Thanks for your comments! We'll try Holden again to see if they'll loan us an Astra as initially they weren't interested in us (I think in their mind we're not proper "motoring journalists"). I might be biased but I think the way we review cars on BRRRRM allows us to connect better with you guys out there as we're just like you. Hopefully as the channel gets bigger (I think we'll hit 1,000,000 views by the end of the year) and we get more subscribers, we can get more manufacturers on board. Thanks for Watching!

      I've done 7k km in mine and average about 11l / 100 km = 25 mpg. I never spare the pedal, so count somewhere around 30 mpg with a more economical driving style. 35-40 mpg highway.

    Judging from the way your moving up and down in the car seat it suggests that the suspension is fairly stiff? How would this car go for a 4Hr drive say to the country? Would it be a comfortable drive or would a VW GTI be a better long distance tourer?

    • @BRRRRMAustralia
      @BRRRRMAustralia  6 років тому +5

      Hi Tony Coz - Matt pretty much drove it everywhere in "N" mode (the sportiest settings for everything), even when we shot the video over some very bumpy Sydney roads, but the beauty of the i30 N is the adjustability of the chassis, steering and engine parameters. When you dial it down to normal settings in the suspension, it does ride really well. The Golf GTI is a nice all-rounder, but recently in Australia they introduced a "basic" version (the GTI Original) to get it below $40K. You now miss out on a few things the i30 N has - one being adjustable suspension. The i30 N is one of the few cars we've driven where the difference in suspension modes is very noticeable which is good. I have a suspicion the GTI Original might be a good touring car with it's smaller wheels (18's vs 19's on the i30 N) and Golfs have always felt a bit more comfortable because of their "upmarket" interior plastics and trim over most other small cars. As we mentioned in the video, the i30 N does the everyday hatch thing really well, but is also an animal when you press that "N" button - I think more of an animal than a Golf GTI. I think it really depends on what you need your car to do, but you wouldn't be disappointed in the i30 N as a long-distance tourer...but just keep the suspension in softer modes. Thanks for Watching!

      I was saying to my dad earlier I think Kia & Hyundai have been putting out some real good cars of late. The Stinger obviously was a massive deal for Kia and I've heard a lot of good things about it, the Optima looks really classy now as do the Sorento & Sportage. I think Hyundai maybe just have the edge on Kia for the moment because of the last couple of cars they've brought out (Kona & i30 N) but they're both coming up massive as brands for the South Korean motor vehicle industry. The fact we're getting similar to Euro quality and premiumisation out of these companies now with a cheaper up keep cost than European cars as someone that lives in Australia is fucking brilliant although I am very sour I don't have the money to buy an i30 N right now hahaha

      coup reivin i agree is a nice car. The problem is that hunday haven't proved that they are reliable like Mazda, Ford and VW. You hardly see 10 year old hundays on the road and if you see one, most of the time they aren't in the best condition.

    As someone who just drops the kids to school and doesn't go anywhere near the Old Pacific, would you say I would likely enjoy an i30 SR as much as an i30N? I know they're totally different cars, but strictly from a daily drivers point of view I'm wondering how much more I would enjoy an i30N considering I don't really go on tracks etc.

    • @BRRRRMAustralia
      @BRRRRMAustralia  6 років тому +1

      Hi spo222a - We've now driven both cars (you can check out our i30 SR review video on the channel too) and I would have to say the i30 SR does makes a great sporty daily driver. The i30 N is really for the hardcore petrol heads among us as Hyundai has spent their money developing the car for driver appeal over anything else. The SR still goes very well (1.6 turbo with 150kW) and has more luxury and safety spec for the price than an i30 N and is available in DCT transmission which makes it easy to drive in Sydney traffic. I think for what you need it to do, you'd probably prefer the i30 SR over the N. Thanks for Watching!

    • @spo222a
      @spo222a 6 років тому +1

      thanks for such a quick reply! I have watched the i30 SR video already. I really enjoy your reviews :) Would you say the same about an i30 SR vs Golf GTI too? (i.e. the i30 SR probably just as enjoyable daily as a Golf GTI?)

    • @BRRRRMAustralia
      @BRRRRMAustralia  6 років тому

      Hi spo22a - No worries at all and thanks for being a great BRRRRM viewer! The Golf GTI is a great sporty car too (after all, VW invented the concept of the "hot hatch" in the 70s), but price wise and power wise, is now in between the i30 SR and N (and the 5-door GTI is even more expensive than the i30 N). The Volkswagen does feel more upmarket than the Hyundai because of its better quality plastic trim and little things like felt trim in the door pockets etc, but I think value for money, the I30 SR is better considering what you get and what you want it to do. I think the Hyundai would be overall cheaper to run too, but just as fun to drive. I reckon save the money, get the i30 SR (or SR Premium) and with the change, take the family on a nice holiday! ;)

    • @spo222a
      @spo222a 6 років тому +1

      Just thought i'd let you know that I went home with an i30 SR over the weekend. I couldn't be more pleased. I did drive the i30n and GTI and although the fun factor was through the roof (and the Golf interior is very plush) -- I must say, the i30 SR is such a value buy. It has all the fun factor for everyday driving on top of so much equipment. Really appreciate your replies and videos for helping make the decision.
      I don't know if you guys ever do "Dads, Kids & Cars" meet ups in Sydney -- but if you do, i'd be keen to drop in and say hello :)
