- In this video. I have a first drive in the eagerly anticipated Hyundai I30 N.
Its the "Performance On The Net" development vehicle and luckily I got the chance to see what its like to drive before any heavy modifications has been added - apart from the Remus Exhaust added and the Pipercross Air filter which adds a neat touch.
Hope you enjoy.

Buy a car for yourself, not for other people. A true petrol head buys for the driving experience, not for the badge
Well said 👏🏽
Fantastic car! You forgot to mention it's 5 year unlimited milage warranty as well!
Yep. Driven the car myself. It's a fantastic car coming from a Huyndai. I would pick it over GTi. I30n is more unique and rare on the streets.
Duncan D'Amico VW golf is the best selling car in my country, Sweden. They are everywhere. Top on that, i30n is such a sweeter drive than the Gti. But If you are a brand snob get the german beatle.
Duncan D'Amico Not in Sweden. Our country is too small, so is our population. We drive Volvo....and Golf. LOL
It's been a while since the last video. Apologies :|
Keep a lookout later this week for a super special film!!
Lifting the inside rear-awesome. First test I've seen where the car was driven as it was meant to be. Waiting on my order here in Aus, you've given me faith that I've bought the right car. Thanks.
John Hagen I live in Aus too and test drove one of these a few days ago. You made a good choice, I want one!
Which colour did you order and did you go for the "luxury pack"?
schumifan78 I went for black. I'm getting a bit older at 57, so the blue looks like the color that baby boys wore. Yep I went for the luxury and the sunroof. Getting old and like things to be easy. I have a spinal problem in my neck so I'll probably need a brace at a race track. Hope you get to get one.
Hi John, I bought one and I can honestly say it's just fantastic! Such a versatile car and great fun at any speed. The black is a fantastic colour for the car too... I drove one and was seriously tempted by it.
Enjoy... I'm sure you will!
Such a chris harris vibe from you sid its truley amazing your style and presentation is spot on! A young chris harris in the making but you are the one and only sideways sid!!
Epic car and the Remus.. !! much more to come on this car..
Eibachs springs
Wheel spacers
Pipercross intake and... more POWER !
Great honest test Sid, really enjoyed that. Indeed the I30N is a jewel in disguise. As you say much more engaging than a golf GTI or Rs3. Just a great drivers machine that engages the senses.
This is seriously professional! You’re driving has also matured too, very impressed with the video! Double whammy lol (impressed with the car and impressed with the quality of your review)
How you only have 18k subs is beyond me. The production quality and level of information in this videos is something I’d expect to see from Chris Harris with 500k+ views
Nice review Sid. I have one in the P blue. Running a Dt-uk Tuning Box and I had the car Dyno’d - 294bhp and 343ft-lbs torque.
You’re 100% correct - the chassis can handle that extra power and it puts it in the Type R range. It’s a hooligan when you want it to be and as subtle and understated as a daily driver.
I own one and honestly I love it, best car I have ever owned it blows me away all the time, so much fun
I just ordered one yesterday...also same colour as this car..got to wait for 4 weeks.. I had test-driven one a week ago and i was blown away by it's power..and handling.. sits on the road like a pitbull.. :)
A bit late... Amazing! Congrats Sid & Thomas for this fantastic review! What a car this I30n! I saw a lot of reviews about this car and this is the best cause is focusing only in the most important thing : Drive
+FilipSenna1 Thank you very much 👍🏽. Glad you liked it 👍🏽
"If your going to buy a car because of the badge your not really into cars"
This.. Yes!!
I do like this car but I do think a FK8 would smoke this thing around the Nurburgring....that said it does have slightly more power and is more expensive. I also think you’d loose less money in a Type R due to the brand lineage / heritage. Both great cars but the styling of the N is far more subtle which will most likely suit more people.
Cracking review again though Sid!
👍🏼👍🏼
Mate the visuals are on point as always! Another fantastic video.
Great review mate, good production quality on this video. Should be getting my own i30N at the end of the week, very keen!
Sid your the man...very good review you just confirmed what I thought this car was about
I’d drive the hell out of it. Looks really good
I have been waiting for this SS!!!
Thank you
Another great video, I love the new professional look of your videos! 👍 Keep it up buddy!
I drove one for the very 1st ones... was so-so impressed. Agree - depreciation is going to be high on these...
Nice review Sid.
Badge snobs need to look at the latest 2019 J D Power reliability survey worst reliability BMW, with Audi also in the bottom 3, VW 12th place, Hyundai 3rd place.
Don't like the looks that much but it looks to be an awesome car and I never care what the badge is. I drive to have fun not be a poser.
Excellent video once again 10/10, the next Chris Harris
Not just the presenting but the videography is brilliant too, well done cameraman.
These new videos of yours are reminding me of the old Chris Harris UA-cam vids. Keep up the good work 😁
Good vid. You're so right about the badge snobs 👍 would like to see your thought on the Peugeot 308/208 gti's bps. I think the 308 would top this.
Matty Schofield Badge snob wankers 😂. Working on it 👍🏽 and thanks 👊🏽
Matty Schofield That would make a good video for sure. I'd like to see he 30th addition of the 208 though 😎👌
I work at a Renault/Hyundai garage in Stirling and they’ve only managed to sell one of these, it was an ex demo and it went to a 63 year old women who bought it. I understand it’s a Hyundai and they definitely aren’t the most reliable cars on the planet but it’s an amazing piece of kit and so far there hasn’t been many problems that I’ve heard of. A few recalls but nothing like a focus RS head gasket that’s for sure 😂
Scott Hastings im pretty sure Hyundai's quite reliable, more so than VW. I think you meant Hyundai has sub par build quality?
@@cliffwilkins9178 the "feel" of everything to do with the car. I.e. the feel of the interior, is it cheap and squeaky or is it well made.
The feel of the gear change, is it clunky or refined. Or the feel of the steering wheel, does it feel hollow, or solid/sturdy.
Etc etc. My 2004 Audi has amazing build quality, but very unreliable.
It's the other way round with Japanese and South korean cars.
Another brilliant professional review. It would be great to see this in a head to head with the new Kia Proceed GTI. Both great value for money.
marksapollo I think they are technically the same car. Don't you think ?
Wisdom Ntshalintshali same class but different cars. I think the Kia is cheaper too?
Spanked one today. Back to back with a GTI. Nutty.
Great video Sid, loving your channel 👌
EVO! Hire this man already!... Yet again, another cracking video! The i30N is a real peach... Weighs more than a Golf R at 1600kg, golf R has AWD and its still lighter... Wonder how hyundai managed to make it this heavy, did it feel heavy while driving?
It weighs 1429kg not 1600kg.
*great video sid, very good!*
I currently own a mk7 GTI, wish I could swing the price different to upgrade to one of these. If I was buying new and not upgrading from a 2014 GTI I'd be going for the N, no doubt in my mind
Bas bzb the N is a much more fun car to drive and the interior is actually not that bad, in some ways it’s nicer than my GTI. And sure it’s a Hyundai, I had initially written the car off because of that but manufacturers can change. Hell, VW once only built the beetle, one of the most basic cars available designed with the only purpose of being cheap and affordable.
Really great review...sub heading your way. I purchased a faulty S3 five months back so am presently searching for my next car...hadn’t considered this. On an OCD note...tuck your watch strap in lol 🙌🏼
Great review! 2 questions. Whats the clutch like? Would you rather the i30n or fully loaded fiesta st?
I’m interested in updating my 2015 Fiesta ST. So Sid, what are your thoughts on the i30n v 2018 Fiesta ST as a fun drivers car?
Stinger gt was a strong start for Hyundai/Kia in the performance sector, but I think they nailed it with this
The i30N is the best car in the world.
It's Joel 🏁
Why? It's too heavy. It's an amazing car nonetheless.
I have one and I confirm it. It is the best driver's car for the PRICE!
It's Joel Aaannnddd it's of Korean "quality" which is definitely improving but is nowhere near German or Japanese quality. It's powertrain and drivetrain have not been tried, tested, tweaked and improved throughout several decades as some other competing cars' have. The i30 N has no pedigree whatsoever. It is unknown as to whether the i30 N, a new type of car for Hyundai, will stack up well, especially the engine as it uses a turbo, that is, forced induction; which will tend to degrade certain components of the car quicker (the engine and the turbocharger itself). It looks like a MK6 GTI that has been riced-out and it is a FWD a.k.a. the default, budget way of transferring power for cheap cars that are overwhelmingly and simultaneously not high performance cars ;(
Finally, it is a bit too heavy and runs out of huff in the higher rev ranges.
Therefore, I highly doubt it is the best car in the world mate. That's an absurd claim. Also, Hyundai should stop marketing this car as track-bred, it's cringeworthy because it's not bred at all. Period.
Amazing i30 N too much better than a gti or than a bmw.quality 5 years of guarantee and fast and that pops and bags are celestial
Thinking about replacing my 2 series with one of these. What do you think Sid? Great video as always mate.
DO IT
I'm convinced 😀
best review on you tube
I would buy one if I didn't do 400 miles a week
There is the Stigma attached , would you have a Skoda Octavia vrs over a golf gti?
And there’s the depreciation to consider , VW holds a little better .
Banging out another great vid, as usual
Thankkkssss
I know it's not comparable but i30n or upcoming Fiesta ST in terms of handling? Yes Fiesta not Focus 😀
My dream car right there
YES YOU GOT ONE!!! Smashed it!
Before this came along, the only hot hatch I liked was the mini JCW, I think I'd rather have this
THAN*
lolzzz!!!!!!! love the content Sid
Nice video ! Interesting how you point to value at being the main point but I paid 24k for my mk7 Golf R last year (ex-demo - 1400miles - 17plate) So as they both weight around 1500kg what would you say is the car to have? A used Golf R manual or Used I30N? :-)
Sam A i30N, tonne more fun and character and a MUCH better warranty that even covers you if you go to track days.
Great vid as usual! I'm looking for a new hot hatch after having 2 x Leon Cupra. I just couldn't get over the ride in the Hyundai, nice noise though but for me it's a bit too much! The interior is a bit crap for the money!
I know they are not direct rivals, but having driving the new Fiesta ST, which car do you prefer more?
As well as badge snobery, i think depreciation is probably the biggest factor for most people when chosing not to buy one of these, it's what is putting me off from buying one.
But i could also say the same about the new megane RS, which also looks like an awsome car, so i suppose it actually is badge snobery that is the main factor, which causes the massive depreciation, shame really.
I really like i30n mate, but I think the Mégane RS still is my favourite of the hot hatches. You tried one Sid?
I'm no badge snob,i like this car because Hyundai even warrant track days and have made a car that makes a show of other overpriced warm and hot hatchbacks we need this car to step up their game and give them a run for their money.
But i would want a sunroof version and some more colour inside the cab and i don't think that's possible for the UK.
Great review, but I personally feel the M140i trumps all hot hatches.
i bought one myself. never looked back
OOo, I would quite like to have a go. By all accounts it's way better than the Golf.
Good review. I chose the right hot hatch I think!
This car is hungry for grip at 2:34 😍
Excellent review very well done.
+Jason Holt Thank you 👊🏽
I might have missed the comments about ride quantity, so excuse me if ai did, but what is it like as it looked quite bouncy
Compared to a fully loaded 2018 Fiesta ST, which one is a better choice?
Great video would you have this over a fiesta st mk8?
HAHAHA jesus you absolutely ripped it, have not seen a proper review like this before.
This car actually looks and I bet feels really good to drive. It’s a shame people will see the badge and turn their noses up at it, cause it really is a stunning car.
These i30 do look a cracking car for the money, I have only seen 2 on the road so far, but they look good, would consider one for sure.
Bought one last friday, awesome car. Haven't seen any others on the road yet.
How did it compare to the clubsport? Comfort wise?
Thx for the great video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😀😀😀
Can you go sideways in a vauxhaul Corsa M9?
Awesome review
how would you rate this compared to the fez st? although im a huge ford fan ive got a soft spot for these i30n's
It's two different classes of Car, so that would be unfair if I'm brutally honest. I'd have to drive them back to back to find out.
Honestly, this car is too expensive for me. But I'll work my ass off and buy it on finance. What a car...
Good review Sid. I have considered one of these several times but cannot justify spending £23k on something not proven. That price range will get you a mint approved used Golf R. Not only will it retain its value more but it's faster, corners better, 4wd and doesn't have a fuel pump issue. I really don't think it's in the same league as the hyper hatches you mentioned not when it's to rival the Golf GTi /Fiesta ST
Great info thanks sid
Great video
supra Thank you 👍🏽
it's time to test the type r
Hopefully Kia will use this engine in their Ceed GT. Ceed and i30 are the same car under the badges but the Ceed only has 210bhp
Love my 2019 N
I really wish they would bring this to the US instead of the Veloster N.
Jesse James You would have a hell of a long wait considering it's made by Hyundai and not VW lol!!!
Thanks. Was watching too many GTI videos....lol.
Golf gti for me
Review a peugeot 308 gti. I'd love to hear your opinion on it. Even if you do look about 17 haha. No offence 😉😂
The car of the moment, RS who?
Just couldn’t spend £20,000 on a hyundai, can pick up a focus rs for around that price or even an A45
V P what do you mean compared? I’m talking about the price son
Focus RS and golf R kiddy cars stfu
Sean Tottenham don’t agree on the focus but a Golf R is a kiddy car. Focus RS is more expensive and haldex 4wd. The i30 N may not be as fast, but out on a public road it is more fun to drive without having to risk your licence like in a focus RS. Comparing second hand price to new is retarded. You can buy an i30N that has been registered and with less miles as well for a lot less money than a Focus RS. If I’d buy a second hand I would buy the Focus RS MkII. That would cost you about less than a registered i30N but at least MkII has the 5 cylinder. I owned one of those and still went for the new i30 N over the new focus RS. The i30 is simply the better car atm at 30.000 EUR. Better than a second hand RS mkiii
V P ...driving dynamics on a Ford are still far superior to anything coming from VAG. I would pick a Focus RS over Golf R any day, every day. The RS just isn’t as public road friendly. You have to drive it fast to feel it is a good car. At low speed it doesn’t feel very special at all because you need to feel how it grips. suspension is track focused (aka far to hard for the bad roads). With the MkII the only thing that made me forgive/ forget the suspension was the sound. Interior isn’t to bad. The T1 was crap, but the T3 is pretty decent. I own an i30 N now and the interior is about the same as the Ford. Nothing special but good enough. Interiors don’t make a hot hatch better imo. These cars are all about fun from driving. If it’s comfort you’re after, buy an A200, A3 TFSI, 120i or Volvo V40 T3. Those cars will take you from A to B in comfort and still reach legal speed limits fairly quickly.
Sean Tottenham I couldn't spend £20k on something so common (GTI, Focus) , it's litterally seen everywhere where I live, UK. Saw i30np the other day and it sure made my head turn, especially with it's amazing sound. A gti? Pretty damn good car but....meh. no emotion.
I got mine 700 miles, pre reg for 22.5k
Great deal!
Decent car tbh, although 22 mpg? i would rather have a second hand M135i for £20k and get a 6 pot that has the same mpg
Is that the real world MPG? I am looking to get one but that is crazy!
Na its not real world mate but in stop start traffic / some harsh pulls i dont think you will get more than 30mpg. Same with most turbo 4 / 6 pots tbh
Hi Jack, I have one and have averaged 30mpg over 1000 miles. I commute into London each day and haven't paid attention to the mpg particularly. On a long journey with occasional fast acceleration I can get 40+mpg. Going for a 'proper' drive I'll get 22 or so... which means I think the car in this video has had a hard life!!
Gti over this any day. Gti wayyy easier to tune and even faster 0-60 despite being down in hp, interior in a whole nother level.
No drifting?
Gabriël Ozo Not this time
Don't forget to mention the 5 year unlimited mileage warranty that even covers you for track day use. That warranty craps on the pathetic warranty offered by the German manufacturer.
I love mine
At 2:35 😮 omg
IT Training ikr, that’s what I thought when I was editing it! properly on the edge
JCW someday?
I've got this car, and it is fast, you just aren't using the gears properly lol, with a remap it would only get better
compare this car with your clubsport s
Liam Parmiter Two different Cars mate. It's Incomparable
You should be on carwow
Reminiscent of a young Chris Harris
Yes is better
Not for me,, the build quality is poor, crappy materials, and the price is or would put some people off, good review though.
Sir.... build quality is judged by the quality of products used to build a car, yundi, use inferior materials, that’s why they are priced at this level . Plastic is used in all motor vehicle production, unfortunately the quality in these cars is pretty poor, now sod off.
Much much better than a boring golf.
I hate to say I don't like the Hyundai i30
As an overall package this is far away from the VW Golf GTI.
Way too many badge snobs
