- 1998 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Super Sport being driven properly on the race track, does it get any better?! There are only 25 CLK GTR coupes in the world, only 2 are Super Sports, this is one of them, and this is literally car number 01 of 25. One of my best friends always wanted this car and about 2 years ago all the stars aligned and he was able to purchase the car and add it to his collection. Quite a few of you might know the owner through Instagram (@bc).
I'm very thankful he invited me to come to the track when he had both his CLK GTR and SLR McLaren at the track to drive. It was an incredible afternoon including a chance to go out for a ride in the CLK GTR! No video from the ride though, I decided to savor the experience. Hopefully I'll be able to share video from the track from inside the car in the future for everyone to enjoy.
I hope this gives you all an up close look at the car and the insane sound it makes from the 7.3 liter V12!

As a car guy I can't tell you how happy it makes me to actually see this phenomenal feat of engineering actually being used for what it was intended for.

glad to see it doing some proper track days rather than being in storage
I should also add that the shifting is done with paddles behind the steering wheel like on modern cars, not the actual steering wheel haha
So how do you select reverse?
on the gear stick, I would presume. Or once you select first (with foot on the clutch) you down shift to reverse.

Really thank you for taking and uploading these videos. It is extremely rare to see any copy of 25 total CLK-GTRs. And these are SS version! Even Rarer! I wish one day I could see them in an auction or car show, that would be one of my best day in my life!

All the homologation specials are pretty incredible, whether we're talking CLK, GT1, R390, or any of the others. Most of us will be lucky to even see one in our lifetimes.

Is crazy...I work by the track and that CLK GTR passed me by in the afternoon as i was leaving work... I am now very sure that it's the exact car because they are extremely rare.

You need to use the clutch to shift gears. If you don't, the gearbox will last only a couple hundred miles.

Yeah, I guess in motorsports they rebuild the sequential gearboxes after every race for no real reason. You shold go and tell them that they are wasting their time. After all, you two are smarter than their stupid engineers.
All the motorcycle manufacturers and driving istructors are dumb for telling people to use the clutch for shifting gears because a motorcycle has a sequential gearbox.
Mercedes is selling transmission rebuild kits for that car just for fun and nobody had to service or replace their transmission.

Wow, simply wow. I didn't even know that CLK GTR owners really drive their cars. I thought they were all just standing in glass boxes. I couldn't even track my E36 M3... But this is F cking awesome.
Model year is actually 2002. The road/street version of the CLK-GTR wasn't even out in 1998. They made both track-only and road/street of the CLK-LM in 1998. The track-only version of the CLK-GTR was made in 1997 and the production of the road/street version of the same car began in 1999 and ended in 2005.

How come I dont see any auto "journalists" complaining about the CLK GTR's parts bin parts (steering wheel, front fascia, tail lights, etc.)? They dole out this criticism for other cars. But the reality is its more efficient and as an owner a benefit as far as availability and cost of replacement parts.
