@@SummerMcGaha Have you heard the 12/6 string double neck Steinberger strat config guitar used in afraid of sunlight album: song: Beautiful? No cleaner pleasant guitar sound comparison in my books. Haha.
@@SummerMcGaha it just sounds how the title states "beautiful" I would say the lyrics are about the shallow/fake and to just be yourself, be beautiful kind of thing. Worth a listen ☺️ hope you like it.
Brave is my favourite Marillion album of all time. Listen to the whole of it as it is a concept album, as mentioned in the comments. A sublime piece of art.
It's wonderful to see someone so young enjoying an excellent band like Marillion. The Great Escape is the final song of their concept album Brave, so it brings the different facets of the plot together and provides a finale. I truly believe it to be one of the greatest songs of all time. I say the final song, but there was actually another song (Made Again) which appeared on some formats which actually provided an alternative happy ending. Anyway, I hope you'll be doing more Marillion reactions as it looks like you've got into them over the past week (and, maybe, more prog rock reactions in general), so I've subscribed to follow your journey! More power to you.
So many beautiful tracks to discover! "Easter" is gorgeous and a fan favourite. It has one of the great guitar solos of all time IMHO. You enjoy the guitar solos by your expressions when they happen. I can't agree more. Steve Rothery is one of the greatest.
Hi Summer. Finally listened to your posted reaction. Nice job ;-). The 'Great Escape' is a euphemism for suicide in this instance. 'Runaway' and 'Alone Again in the Lap of Luxury' are two other really great tracks dealing with the domestic abuse that the girl in the story has to endure. Another thoughtful and mature reaction Summer. Take care
Steve Hogarth said he had been inspired by some miscellaneous news which occurred a few years earlier : the police found a girl on the edge of a bridge on her way to jump off, she didn't give her name or any explanation, she appeared completely lost. Was she physically and/or psychologically abused, out of her mind? We'll never know, but that led to this beautifully tragic piece of art.
There is often multi meanings behind Hogarth lyrics. You had an interesting take on it and too be honest on one level you are right. For full reflection you would need to listen to the whole concept. Nice reaction.
For me, THE best song from this album Brave which is my favourite from them. Love it so much. Check this live version from their wonderful live album at Royal Albert Hall: ua-cam.com/video/jQy5-yaaDm4/v-deo.html
@@SummerMcGaha I have no idea. It would be an interesting watch. I only know Marillion through a good friend. I'd borrow her albums for a good listen, way back when.
@@SummerMcGaha It's actually more of a longform music video for the entire concept album. They hired director Richard Stanley for the film due to his rather avant-garde film making. The record company got scared and stuck their noses into it in an attempt to make it more mainstream and the end result was not great. A good set of headphones and your imagination is the best way to experience the album in my opinion. It's a real trip.
This song is so super wowz I’m not sure what I think I kinda get a little mixed in my head…. I thought he was running away from a bad relationship but just as he’s leaving or he thought he’d gotraway that person catches up with him I loved it when it changed key I thought it was gonna be uplifting but then he was saying like fallin an bridges an mountains I hope it was some kinda metaphor cos when I heard those words I started think of this saying keep passing the open window it’s from a book written by someone I Kant remember but the dude that wrote it wrote a lot of other books that I wanted to read cos one of his books they made a film of called the cider house rules (I think!?) it had Spider-Man in it and the English guy from the muppets Christmas carol - one of my fave movies luv that movie 🍿 err where was I ?? I looked up from reading the lyrics where he sang “your holding on” an the guitar started i saw that big white teethed super smile from you and it made me feel happy despite thinking the song seems soooo sad 😢 Err oh and that second guitar solo was just killer I gotta cold shiver up or down my spine it was awesome this song makes me feel dead sad for the singer that’s my thoughts
It was kind of sad *and* funny how close, yet not dark enough your interpretation was. It's not just the person coming back, it's the psychiatric symptoms that make life unbearable for so many getting worse when stressors re-enter your life. To the point where you're asking why no-one's there to give you the mercy of ending your torturous existence, and coming to the acceptance of only you being able to end it by your own hand. Neil Gaiman's Sandman collected albums had... I think it was the one titled Brief Lives, where someone wrote in the foreword, that 'Morpheus has come to understand the futility of living with a broken heart that cannot be fixed, especially living forever with that broken heart.' Or something to that effect. And it is then that the metaphor of a Great Escape / having fallen from the moon, lying broken, bleeding, and suffering, like Icarus in his last moments, is so apposite. The liberatory, voluntary, flight from a bridge -- and this mortal coil that ties you inexorably to years, decades, of anguish and the gradual slide to loss of control over even the minutiae of the ruin that is your life -- really doesn't seem that far, compared to the height you've already fallen -- 'did she slip, or was she pushed?' -- from happier times, now forever a bitter memory at best. But more often a source of abject despair and riving of your self, not seldom even physically. A state the only relief from which everyone you know works so hard to prevent.
I love that song! I haven't heard every Keane album, but I loved Under The Iron Sea and Spiralling. There's another one I thought was good, but I don't remember the name of it. I think it was before Under The Iron Sea. Some of their music is so heartfelt, I cry every time I listen. Bad Dream is my favorite song by them.
@@SummerMcGaha lol give it a try . If you haven't heard their latest album,'' Put The Radio on '' is my favourite of that album, so i recommend that song too.
Rothery's Guitar solo = magic✨✨🔥
I just love Rothery's guitar playing...very underated guitarist, very versatile.
I agree!

Resolution (and recovery(and rediscovery)) is a journey. Always. Yet it is not a 'vacation'' or 'holiday'. It is a path you find within.
Well done.
I read somewhere that there is a film based on the album, is that a full movie, or is it a musical? I'm very curious about it.
