  • Samsung recently released their latest flagship Android tablet: the Samsung Tab S4. And it's really pretty.
    They were kind enough to send me one though and as is the usual here on this channel, I figured I'd do a complete walkthrough on it so you guys can have as much information as possible on it should you be in the market to buy one.
    There's a lot to go through, so let's get started with the hardware.

    I have had my the Tab S4 for a week and now and I love using it as PC on the go. With work I am moving around from place to place and the LTE connectivity and DEX provide me with a way to be more productive than I was with my iPad Pro 9.7. It is fast and responsive, the benchmark scores do not do it justice. Yes I agree it cannot replace a PC for some heavyweight tasks but is great for many of my daily needs. I no longer carry a PC and my iPad for work, I only carry my Tab S4.

      Can it open the same app in multiple windows? Like for example you want to open multiple Word documents at the same time.

      What is your nature of work? In what way the tab s4 is more productive than iPad pro?

      Where was you reply last time? When you said you could open multiple windows of the same app.

    • @BrianDavis76
      @BrianDavis76 5 років тому +19

      @@hazmanch4 You can only have 2 apps on a screen using a split screen in the iPad and they windows can only be resized from side to side. Dex lets you have many apps open and it is easier to transition between them. You can also have multiple word or other documents open at the same time which iOS can't do. Don't get me wrong, the iPad is a great device but for me I got frustrated with it when multitasking. I have had the Tab S4 for 2 weeks and it is a much better productivity device for me.

    Got it today, I love the Tab S2 so much and this one just blow me away! Its display is stunning that whenever I look back to my Note 8 I just feel Note 8 is so lame although it's definitely not.

    I love this tablet! The display is stunning...I did not expect it to be so much better than the S3. The only thing I miss is the fingerprint sensor cuz apps won't use the retina scanner. Other than that, it is awesome. I did get the bookcover keyboard and I really like it.

      This where the Huawei m5 tablet wins....that fingerprint scanner is necessary....plus it has it's on desktop mode as well

    • @maxkho00
      @maxkho00 5 років тому

      Yeah, they should have the fingerprint scanner at the power button, like the new Google Slate. Also, if they are making this a productivity device, they should have implemented a computer OS platform, like ChromeOS, keeping the DeX UI (which I absoutely love), and instead made the computer interface turn into a mobile interface - not the other way round (preferably with the ability to download launchers from the Play Market, as I am using the Nova Launcher on my Tab s4). That'd be so much more covenient. For example, I'm studying maths at uni, which requires the computer version of Matlab, and which Tab s4 doesn't support. Finally, they really need to fix the S Pen, which practically doesn't work (if you want to take notes, as I do every day during lectures) in portrait mode and is still a couple of pixels off in landscape mode, as well as having the useless button (useless because it only works when close to the screen, in which case you can just press the button that pops up on-screen) that always keeps pressing.
      If only they'd implemented all of that, I'd be in dreamland. That would the perfect replacement, and in fact a massive improvement, on all of: paper, computer, and phone (as media consumption device), all in one device worth just under 500 GBP in total - 450 for tablet, 25 for keyboard (I've bought an IVSO Bluetooth keyboard with book-cover which lacks some key shortcuts, but other than that does the job very well), and 10 for mouse (again, I've just bought a random Bluetooth mouse for 10 GBP).

    I don't know of any laptops with a stunning 10.5 inch super AMOLED display, along with the best viewing angles available. That is ultimately what justifies the sticker price. I''m still using the original Tab S 10.5 that has the same aspect ratio as the S4. It's still a great tablet, although not as snappy and it has a ridiculously low 16GB of storage so almost everything must be offloaded to an SD card.
    Android Police is reporting that Samsung is going to put this tablet on sale starting Nov 22. No further details at the moment. I want the 256GB wifi version in gray.

    I'm at that dilemna again. Productivity vs portability. Thought about a DEX like solution with Huawei, but big issue, lack of availability of a big screen when needed. Thinking of getting a MacBook Pro, but then may need an iPad for light work and on the go. Alternative would be a Surface, or Samsung TabPro Windows tablet PC, or a Note 9 phone + DEX. Long term DEX users, how's your DEX set up after a few months? (Just wish MS would release a Surface Phone and be done with it).

    Great walkthrough! Ever since Samsung decided to use glass back on their tablet, I've been indecisive whether to upgrade from my Tab S 10.5". My usage of tablet has been pretty extreme so far and far too many occasions my Tab S has endured fall from half a metre at least. Will wait until the Tab S4 comes to my country and have a look at the tab myself before deciding whether or not to upgrade.

      I love my Original Tab S 10.5. Both the Tab S and Tab S4 have the same screen resolution and Tab S4 1 GB more ram isn't going to be a huge impact. I use mine for media. Ill stick to my Tab S instead of paying $700 for this. My Tab S also supports the 400GB SD card even though it says 128GB max, so I'm still set with my Tab S.

      ► Galaxy Tab S4 (64GB with LTE, S-Pen, Android/DeX OS) costs US$833, the keyboard cover is US$150 so the total cost will be US$983
      ► Galaxy Book 10.6 (128GB WiFi Only, S-Pen + Keyboard Cover, Windows 10 OS) costs US$850.
      The Tab S4 has the better screen which is amoled, while the Book 10.6 has LCD. But the Book 10.6 has the better OS when it comes to productivity.

The Note Pro has easily replaced three use of a PC in every area of my terribly complex life in teaching, doing research, using it to display and manage sheet music, sketching, etc..I've not been able to get muggy habits on the Tab S4 yet, but if it works as well as my Note Pro, this will be there tablet to beat. Loved this video. Fantastic. I am definitely following this channel. I have been an Apple user for many years now and recently I bought a Samsung Phone. Honestly, I was surprised with the amount of things Android, especially Samsung software allows me to do. The always on display thing is fantastic, the super smoked screen is so amazing and now I look st my iPad screen and it looks outdated. Sure all these things have been on the market for a long time but because I hadn't used Android since 2012 I feel like I discovered a whole new world. It's amazing to witness how much Android and Samsung have improved. Now with apple rising he iPhone prices that much there is no way I will buy another iPhone and my question now is should I get this lovely Galaxy tab instead of an iPad?

    At least the Samsung DeX and a Galaxy Tab S4 Android would allow me to hook up a USB type C hub and hook up external storage drives and allow me to view content on the tablet through those things unlike the iPad Pro and iOS but nobody wants to touch that part with a 10 foot poll .
    Why is that no one is bringing that part up ? Maybe that's why people don't exactly see where Samsung DeX and Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 could do a lot of the jobs of a desktop or a laptop . The difference being that you are having to get apps for it through the Google Play Store in which some of those apps available in Google Play Store is also android versions of Software available for Windows .
    Exibit A. Cyberlink PowerDirector . And there are also Android apps in the Google Play Store that are and run similar to software available for Windows . They have apps that will allow you to do things that Apple will never let you do on an iPad Pro and iOS
    but nobody is trying to bring that part up .

    • @thunder7135
      @thunder7135 5 років тому +8

      Of course they don't bring that up, especially the apple fanbois. Their job is to only keep blabbing about how bad the S4 is and how you should dive right into the restrictive apple ecosystem.

    • @djthereplay
      @djthereplay 5 років тому +1

      Exactly +Alexandru-Horia Hodișan .
      But that is why Apple iOS users still have to have a desktop or laptop PC or Mac to fully do those things with an iOS device
      that Android and really Samsung DeX enabled device already has .
      And to be truthful Apple could fit the full Mac OSX desktop UI on the screen of an iPad to make it compete better with what is coming out today but no Apple will never do that .

    • @thunder7135
      @thunder7135 5 років тому +1

    The Microsoft surface pro 6 uses 8th generation Intel processors, the core i5 and core i7 used in desktops. The surface pro uses an advanced LCD display with excellent 2.7k resolution. Of all tablets, the surface pro 6 comes closest to a true laptop experience. As for myself, someone who has followed technology since I was a small child, I recommend owning and using three devices: laptop, tablet and smartphone.

    I recently purchased Samsung's latest greatest tablet, the galaxy tab S4. I'm very pleased with it. It's an exaggeration to claim any tablet is a desktop or laptop in terms of power, function and capability. Tablets are media consumption entertainment devices. Laptop are designed for serious work on the go. The hierarchy of computers based on power, capability and function from greatest to smallest remains as follows: desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone.

  • @SheBytes2
    @SheBytes2 5 років тому +1

    STILL with just 4 GB of RAM. I've enjoyed the Tab S3 for 9-10 months now, since its US release. Ongoing limitation for a power user is slowdown caused by system memory. Pity the Tab S4 in all its showstopping multimedia capability has half the RAM as my Galaxy Note 9 PHONE ---and with release dates of the 2 Galaxy products being fairly close together. Differences between S3 and S4 not worth the pricey price tag.

      In the sense, how can they be made mainstream again? Maybe just your thoughts on it, maybe using more powerful hardware, or better app support, or something! I dunno haha.
      also the difference between a tab and a super thin laptop you get in somewhere the same price range!

    • @reaperreaper5098
      @reaperreaper5098 5 років тому +4

      Not really. The Same 9's 845 is marginally faster in the real world when it isn't throttling. This thing is running what is basically an 835, and it's one of a few devices that don't throttle it to the point that its performing the same as an 810.

    • @octave1
      @octave1 5 років тому +1

    • @reaperreaper5098
      @reaperreaper5098 5 років тому +4

      @Diganta Bhattacharya Mobile benchmarks are not reliable indicators of performance overall, just short bursts. Under every realistic use case, the 835 is more than powerful to do the job exceptionally well. It being 1.5 years old is completely irrelevant. Most mobile devices, iPad included, typically thermal throttle under any sustained workloads, to the point that the benefit of the faster chips is lost. Next to no one would notice if the 845 or A12 in current devices was replaced with an 810.

    • @ThibautMahringer
      @ThibautMahringer 5 років тому

      It is better than my Note 8 with the same processor cause it have 0 thermal throttling. It is cold no matter what I do. And I never saw any drop in performance while using it.

      You wont have access to android apps. Also not everyone needs a full , heavy, os like windows all the time. For simple stuff like watching movies, web browsing etc mobile os is more convenient and lighter. Chrome os is kinda ok too but it lacks the file management that android has. Android apps are better optimized for android than chrome os.
      This tablet fills a niche for heavy media consumers who need a outet for doing some productivity when necessary

      I agree. Is a good device just for entertainment, 2 years old chipset, 4 GB RAM and why the hell do you need glass on a big tablet? This tablet should be 400$ to be purchasable, otherwise for 700$ there are better alternatives like a laptop or a surface.

    I think it's a very impressive device but I am critical of Samsung's decision to use an 835 chip when there is an 845 available and Huawei have used an 855 on one of their phones.

      I do get what you mean though, but I can tell you from using the tablet the 835 is plenty as it is for most phones frankly.
