While arcs are obviously awesome, I am mesmerized by the spark gap created light. It looks like some kind of futuristic power source. Love it! Great job

    Randall,
50 to 60Khz roughly. At your proposed size, a ring toroid as suggested by Phil if possible is probably the way to go, a job which is easy to underestimate. Requires heavy tube bending equipment and probably TIG welding. CAD patterns recommended and it will be fairly heavy. Obviously, the ideal is an aluminium fabricator with CAD facilities albeit with a hefty (very) price tag.
My 60" Al ring toroid is proving quite a handful even though I got the rings bended by a samaritan for free. 50 /50 whether it gets completed.
With your facilities and tenacity, wouldn't put it past you but it 'IS' a big job.

You have a wonderful coil there Randall!

Thanks Phil. Seems to be "dialed" in perfect. Going to build a 66 inch ring toroid this winter. Should finish it off. Any idea what effects on FreqRes that might have?

@@Hvtesla ring toroid, as compared to a conventional toroid of the same size?

@@MegavoltHomeschool An Aluminium (preferably pronounced: a-loo-MIN-yum rather than 'a-LOO-minum ) tube toroid may be lighter, but ideally needs access to a laser cutter (for the tube supports discs) and a BIG tube bender. I would favour the tube as you have far less sharp edges to 'bleed off' the HV in numerous smaller 'too-air' wasted mini streamers. Ground strikes always being the goal for me.
Plus tubular ring toroids look good!
