Original FF7 devs were INSANE.
This moment fakes being silly to then be a bit of a heart damager.
Then Cloud gets one of his biggest mental breakdowns and starts attacking Aeris.
Then you get magical forest scene where she says goodbye, but you go and save her… and Sephiroth opens his barbecue.
Man, you seriously had to be playing it to know how it feels. There is a reason why FF7 was so popular.
And it wasn’t just 1 scene, it was the built up, the relationships and bonding. This game was… something else.
“Sephiroth opens his barbecue” has got to be the craziest way to describe Aeris getting shish kebabbed 💀😂 but I agree

I liked it better when essentially, the whole temple was the black materia itself and in order to remove it, someone had to be crushed inside it and that's what made it more emotional in my first run of the game, the fact that Cait Sith was sacrificing himself.

I get it tbh. But even in the og Cait Sith is easily the character I care the least about so in the og it sort of came off as really silly to me more than sad. In Rebirth though, I do miss a few lines in the original he said like "Don't forget about me! Even if another Cait Sith comes along!"
@@shadowlessgrandcross2165 I think they did it this way in Rebirth to have an action scene. In the original it was pretty chill. Cait Sith volunteered to solve the riddles to shrink the temple into the black materia while the others waited outside to take it. But in Rebirth it turned out as an Indiana Jones like escape.
Besides, this gave BM a very interesting extra power besides summoning the meteor, which was precisely the construction.
I actually like that concept better than the pyramid just crumbles down. Would have been more scarier to escape while the whole place starts to shrink.
One of a few examples of a scene that I feel was done better in the original. I really missed him saying 'Don't forget me, even if another Cait Sith comes along'. On some level, this version had its own identity, its own will to live.
I didn’t care about cait sith in the original, he was so unlikeable that his death didn’t mean anything since he comes back. In rebirth, I liked cait sith so much more, and they didn’t try to guilt trip you with his death as everyone already knew he was a robot, so having it like how they did it in rebirth made more sense to me, and it felt better (imo)
doesn't matter, a replacement body comes out right after the moment, it's I'm dead but not really.

You know, while I admit that there are some aspects that I like about the OG’s take, I feel that Rebirth makes more sense.
Now hear me out, why would the Cetra make the Black Materia the temple, and the only way is the solve the puzzle inside the temple, crushing you to death? From what it sounds, only one person has to be inside the temple to solve the puzzle, and anyone else looking to get the Black Materia can just wait outside and pick it up from the crater. That means anyone can have someone expendable or robotic to solve the puzzle and they are gonna be chilling outside with little to no consequence, and reaping the reward.
In Rebirth, while it does seem like an Indiana Jones sequence, it makes sense. Anyone who tries to obtain the Black Materia, fake or otherwise, with only receive death, and anyone outside will receive nothing, as the Temple is destroyed to nothing, and the only way to get the Black Materia is to find the true one between worlds, and if no one knows how to use the fake Materia as a key to get it, it’s effectively useless.
Rebirth actually managed to make me like Cait Sith.
I used to forget he existed at times.

Yeah, I read a comment saying that, essentially, he's a cat plush toy, but knowing it was developed by Shinra, there might be an actual bio component to him and this is where the "There's plenty of me, but there's also just ONE me, so don't forget about me even if another Cait Sith comes along" is implying Cait Sith is sentient to an extent.

@RyuEmatsu I know that Reeve is behind Cait Sith. But I always wondered why they treated the whole situation as if the toy cat was a sentient being. If I recall correctly, they know he's actually a Shinra high rank employee that was spying on them by this point in both games.

Think of it like Reeve having an emotional attachment to THIS specific Cait Sith and is talking to Cait Sith THROUGH Cait Sith.
I think the only thing the original could've done better was not have cait sith's replacement show up until the Gas Chamber scene. Just imagine
The purpouse of Cait SIth's replacement is to trick players into beliving death can be cheated. It's what cats do. This is so that when Aerith do die, her death becomes real. And the loss of Aerith stays real for the rest of the story.
I can't wait for the enemy comparison video, I loved the one for remake.

I played through the og FF7 and I can agree that there's more of a bond with the characters during this scene but damn, for some reason I cried during That sacrifice scene in rebirth. (Moments before he's crushed).

I do like how Cait Sith tricks the audience. The whole point of his "death" is there to make the audience think that the heroes can't actually die... all the up to the point where Aerith gets a burial at sea.
They turned Cait Sith's little Fortune telling to see if Cloud and Aerith are compatible into that entire date scene in Sector 5. Damn...

For those saying they don't like the temple not shrinking and becoming the black materia in Rebirth, it kinda still does?
Unless someone is holding up the plate, like Cait does, there is no chance of escaping in time. That plate descended really quickly.
Then, by the time it does reach the ground and everyone is outside, the temple is shown to collapse into itself, compressing itself into a tiny ball and then crash into the ground.
I don't know if I'm just seeing that wrong, but after only playing the original recently, that's the exact same that happens in the OG, minus the collapsing as it's just shrinking.

Pretty sure Cait Sith is more of a monitor with it's own functioning AI that Reeve can assume control over
@@CanOfDarkFruit I don't think so. After the gang defeated Vincent in Nibelheim and decided to go back to the saucer, we see Cait Sith standing still and not responding to the gang for a few seconds. Prior, we see in a cut scene that Reeve was in a meeting with Rufus and the other executives talking about Aerith and the lost temple. Reeve was clearly bothered by it and therefore distracted. This led to Cait Sith not responding to the gang. I believe the logical inferences is that Cait Sith is directly controlled by Reeve, or at least directed by him in real time.
He didn't pretend. Cait Sith is also capable of controlling himself autonomously. That's why he was so sad when he sacrificed himself for the Black Materia. He had developed a personality by that point. That's also why he told you not to forget him IF another Cait Sith comes along. He knew this was death for him, and he didn't actually know if Reeve would continue helping you.
@@jewii3824 Dude. They LITERALLY confirmed it. He is fully capable of autonomously controlling himself. This was confirmed in multiple games.

Funny, how both Cait Sith's sacrifice and Aerith's death feel more emotional in the OG.
Aerith's death lost its weight when they censored her being stabbed and killed. The fact that it showed her being stabbed in the original added sooo much to the scene!
Removing it and letting the stab be done off-screen just isn't the same as actually seeing it

For me I love the ending tho. Took me sometime to accept it and understand what really is going on just like REMAKE part 1. Got me confused and shit, but I love it
That's what I didn't like about the original. I don't recall as a kid that Reeve was controlling Cait Sith the whole time. I actually thought this comedic character was about to really sacrifice himself for the team and make me regret not using him more. I did regret not using him more... then another pops up when the dust settles and the moment is gone forever.
At least in this one, we're prepared for this "sacrifice" but it still kind of hurts to see a little.
Caits movements and personality are his own. Reeve can just see thru him if he wants. He's not controlling him.

They chickened out the part where Black Materia is the pyramid itself. But they also showed us Cait Sith’s death, something we never saw in the original.
The revival of Cait Sith in the original came out awkward and funny, while the remake made it more beautiful.
Imo, they should have kept the part where the pyramid crushes them as it shrinks.
While I think the original is oddly cute and I like the temple turning into the materia I think Rebirth is overall better paced and directed. Lot of dead air cut out and weird shit like 'are we going to date'

Think of Cait Sith as a drone, he’s controlled by one of the members of the Shinra board, “Reeve”.
A plot point that should be made clear to everyone during the Midgar Invasion by Diamond weapon.
Reeves has multiple backup Cait Siths.
There is a huge diffirent, in og Cait was gone, death😢 then another Cait exacly like him came along to replace him. in rebirth Cait is back as the same cat, same memory, that Cait never have died, just send in the avatar to be crushed, so... less emotional.

yes but Cait Sith in the original game ranged from forgettable to hateful, so his death has no real impact, also because the role of that death was to deceive you and make you believe that no one else would die because the classic sacrifice of a member of the party has already happened. And in the end, except during his presentation, it is never relevant that he was not the same Cait Sith, he is treated the same way.
in Rebirth however, just the fact that he wasn't in the party, but it was his spontaneous choice to reach them and save them, shows how he had actually grown fond of them and how he regretted having deceived them, then as a character he is much more present and likeble, then the fact that the temple was actively collapsing makes his sacrifice much more "necessary" from a certain point of view because otherwise everyone there would have died, then the fact that he returns during a scene of temporary calm and not a scene of chaos and inappropriately allows him to reintroduce himself and apologize while the others listen and can respond to him.
so, in my opinion, Cait Sith's sacrifice came out better in Rebirth than in the OG.

The old one was way better. He wanted us to never forget the original. His cute dance made his death much sadder.
Also, popping up during a dramatic scene was honestly kind of funny.
The remake made this scene feel so generic by comparison.
Both are ok, the og made you hate him and dont care about him due to the fact that he kidnaped a girl and blackmailed the party. Remake made you like him.
His name should be pronounced "Catshee" since a "Cait Sith" is a spelling variation of "Cait Sidhe" which is pronounced similar to "Banshee" because Banshee is traditionally spelled "Bain Sidhe." A "Cait Sith" is just a "Hill Cat" or "Spirit Cat" in Irish folklore which is why he has that accent.
First of all he has a Scottish accent, not Irish.
Second, he pronounces it "Kate Sith". No need to complicate things.

So if they're able to grab the black materia and escape with it in time, what would stop Sephiroth from just taking it and escaping?
I thought the point was that the Ancients made the Temple itself the Black Materia so it was exceptionally difficult to take because in order to turn the temple into the black materia, the person inside it solving the puzzles would be crushed and killed in doing so. Essentially making sure no one could take it.
The remake seems not dissimilar to Aladdin taking the lamp and escaping on the carpet. Another pointless and inferior change from the original FF7 story in my opinion.
I'll assume Sephiroth can't navigate the temple, or even enter it, because of how overflowing it is with both pure Lifestream energy and Cetra "stuff" made to fend him off.
Otherwise yes, he'd just teleport around the world grabbing what he needs and pissing off to the Norther Crater to summon meteor in a single day, haha
I much prefer the rebirth version of these events tbh. Unlike the black materia stuff and almost everything else that happens in this chapter of rebirth
every recreation of an emotional character moment in rebirth falls completely flat. either ruined by sephiroth bullshit or out of place action and/or addition of a boss fight. there was no redone moment i felt was done better in rebirth. which is funny since i actually love a lot of the story in the side content and feel like they let more quiet moments play out and stand on their own
The quiet parts playing out is the best way to describe what's missing from a lot of modern games. The og 7 had an atmosphere that felt lonely and grand and didn't need anything crazy going on to convey that. Part of it was due to the limitations of the hardware....being able to do more and be more detailed now I think is a double edged sword. Developers want to fill the game with "something to do" every second and it kind of becomes just a bunch of junk volume.
I thought the handling of the reveal that Cait was a traitor landed much better in Rebirth at least
Here's one thing I don't get about people's complaining about Rebirth/Remake: the original still exists. Rebirth isn't trying to be the original; the characters have meta-knowledge of the Compilation. Aerith sees the future. Zack survives. Sephiroth is everywhere. Characters reference things that happen in alternate timelines. It's not trying to be the original; it's a companion piece! Why hold it to the same standards? Rebirth isn't trying to erase FF7; the original is still out there, easily accessible.
I hated the changes in Rebirth so much that I don't recall any of that running away outside the temple. LOL
what's done is done though. Really hope they just put an end to this franchise with part 3.

It's worse. In the OG, he literally DIED. They just replaced him with a different Cait Sith entirely. He's not the same person, he just looks the same. Cait Sith isn't just a robot. He's a robot that had memories and the ability to develop as a person.
They neutered yet ANOTHER scene that was SUPPOSED to hurt.

When he died, my first thought was : " i'mma get the equipments back right ? lel "... In this one, I used him in my team, I loved him and really felt like he was a character... not just a robot.
@@Mother3Forever On top of that, I must admit remake and rebirth did better in some ways... (except the whispers thing, it took time before I finally accept it) For example, in the OG game, a lot of scenes felt so much light hearted, like a comic relief when in remake/rebirth, you really feel the seriousness of some scenes and find it more well paced : there are still funny times but they don't overshadow the real priorities. In chara dev aswell, they made it better for some like Scarlet, which I couldn't care less but defeat in OG. After Intergrade, I really had a strong hate on her and defeating her in Gongaga was more of a revenge than just a boss battle... Same thing for Yuffie, her intro was better and I don't feel like I have to actually convince you, really. Don't get me wrong tho, the OG do keep a special place in my heart but I have to admit SE fulfilled their promises and I'm glad with that.

The story of this game looks like it was written for children! Characters that died in the original game which was meant to create emotional impact and served the story have all been written to only slightly risk their lives but always return while everyone carries on like nothing happened. This is trash and I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on this cliché mess!
It's not TRYING to erase the original. It's a companion piece, an alternate universe, a what-if. The game makes it really obvious that Aerith is going to die and Zack already survives somewhere because it hinges on the idea that you've already played or know of the original. It doesn't have to hit the same emotional beats twice every time: it's not the same game. The original is out there, and you can still play it! They're not deleting every copy of PS1 FF7 because the remakes are out now.
