This video is totally different to what I usually post on UA-cam, The train was busy so chosen a voice over style video instead. VO isn't my strong point but wanted to try it out. Apologises that this video is more Voice Over than Piece to Camera. Any feedback is appreciated. Also I am aware that Cholsey is pronounced wrong and do apologise
Never knew that from Brunel himself, learned something new today. Just like seeing Avanti West Coast and LNER next to each other, seeing GWR and Avanti West Coast is something else.
You used to see Virgin West Coast and GNER next to each other in Glasgow Central all the time back when they both ran hourly services from Glasgow to London.
I think the voiceover sounded quite natural & suited this type of vlog. Overall, a very polished production Simon. Well done, and thank you for sharing.
The Euston line is very close to the Paddington line in the Willesden/ Old Oak Common area only half a mile. In this area there are lines to Waterloo and Victoria via Clapham Junction, and the other way to the St Pancras, Kings Cross and Liverpool Street lines.
Nice that you got to go on the rare track! Unfortunately it was out of our time and budget to actually go on it (if it stopped at Reading for passengers I 100% would have done it) but since it didn’t I couldn’t go. However we did get to see GWR trains going up the West Coast Main Line at Kensal Green. ~ Daniel
Just thought I'd view this one because I understand you've been having problems lately Enjoyed it very much thank you you always provide such a lot of interesting information Keep going!!! 👍
Interesting journey through west London. I remember when Cross Country services to places like Brighton and Ramsgate did that rare track, although they went through Acton Main Line station rather than Acton Yard
Great stuff, Simon. I’m pretty sure that IKB would not be happy for his trains to go into the mess that is Euston! I wonder if the night Rivera also left Euston over that weekend? Voiceover was great btw 👍🏻
Thank you, I don't think he would be happy as well. Yes the Night Rivera also left London Euston, in fact the Night Rivera and Caledonian Sleeper were side by side on platform 1 and 2 at Euston
Brilliant video Cyber, I honestly had no idea about Brunels dream of trains from Euston, I believe that rare piece of track was used by Virgin Cross Country services to Brighton when they were a thing. I wouldn't even dare talk about the overcrowding stuff lol.
Well i suppose for £35 you at least got a seat by the window. But the GWR 1 st class option is indeed pretty naff compared to Avanti and LNER. Anyway, worth it for the experience, as you say. Mind you, I wonder how many ordinary travellers were standing because of all the train geeks riding the line? My social media was full of people doing it! Great video. Thanks for sharing. Happy to have more VO 👍
I had to chuck someone out of my seat at Swindon, but rather had done it 1st Class as Standard would had been busy, the passing Acton Maon Line shot was done in the vestibule but a woman sitting on the floor in front of me but was a easy to get any filming done Thanks Johnny
Theres an alternative Timeline where Brunel got his way and GWR trains terminated at Euston. As interesting a scenario that is we wouldn't have gotten Paddington and if history had followed a similar path then we might have lost St Pancras.
That price is ridiculous. I paid £39.6 for a first class advance single from London Euston to Exeter St Davids on that same day with railcard discount. Booked back in October.
That is a good price from London Euston to Exeter, but I would agree that price is ridiculous between Swindon to London Euston for a journey roughly a hour and 20 minutes but I paid it so it help with the filming slightly. Also, did you get any refreshments on your train?
Which railcard was that? Last time I tried to get a First Class ticket with mine, I was told railcards don't cover First... (albeit this was, erm, 2016? 2017?)
We don’t normally see that GWR iet train to ever come to Euston station It’s the avanti 805 and 807 units that are welcomed to Euston The 800 and the 802 units are welcomed to Paddington not Euston
Yes I was travelling to film this video, plus the train that I going to catch from Gloucester to Swindon got cancelled and had to catch the one a hour later which was a 2 coach class 158 which was rammed. But do wish the Level Crossing Gate Keeper a speedy recovery
@ lots of GWR cancellations of both Worcester-Bristol and Swindon local services on Sunday. Almost as bad as West Midlands have been of late. Was indeed an unfortunate situation but handled professionally. Agree with you on sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to the crossing keeper. Did you get something interesting through Cheltenham not long after you arrived? Heard tones and a big diesel engine walking along the formation of the old Honeybourne Line.
@@mcollier4566 Didn't notice anything, I had a very quick changeover at Gloucester as the train to Swindon departed before my train arrived into Cheltenham. Had a 2 minute connection at Gloucester to get over the footbridge from platform 2 to platform 4
@ Glad you made it! The platforms at Gloucester can be quite a long walk! Annoying that it must have been your Swindon service which held us outside Cheltenham!
Never expected to see a GWR train at London Euston. Do you think that GWR could use London Waterloo as First Great Western once used London Waterloo during engineering works at Paddington.
Can agree that Euston is horrible, especially the Euston Stampede amd how packed that concourse can be duribg problems, but before the 1960 rebuild, Euston was a nicer station.
An interesting historical document. Sounds like GWR tried to minimise stress by mandating "reservations only" - seems sensible. Nice3 to see Euston platform One without a Caledonian Sleeper snaking out of the platform. Thanks for this Great video and the countdown of current and past stations; but ... "Choseley"?
@@CaseyJonesNumber1 Fair enough I missed that mistake after listening to it yes I said Handwell. May had put more on the N or W to sound like Hand, also what didn't help is that I did these in the late evening. But honestly does it really matter?
Imagine if LNER ran their trains from London Euston or perhaps from London Liverpool Street to Edinburgh Waverley, York, Leeds, Doncaster and Newcastle. As there has been plans for LNER, Hull Trains and Lumo to run to & from Liverpool Street. If King’s Cross station is closed for engineering work. Never expected to see GWR run their trains from London Euston.
Didn’t the opposite happen, with some trains which would normally have gone to Euston being diverted to Paddington, and others to Kensington Olympia or Marylebone, during the rebuilding of Euston station in the ‘60s?
Interesting the Disabled Persons Railcard worked for the First Class fare for you. Last time I tried to do that, albeit it wasn't on GWR but on ScotRail, and what was Virgin West Coast, they both said the railcard was only for Standard Class fares. But that was pre-2020, so maybe the rules have changed. Or perhaps the operators can set their own policies. Honestly, those past experiences made me just give-up trying. But I should try again maybe, as sometimes, at particular times of day, the quieter carriage can be worth an extra £20 or £40. (Though not an extra £100.)
@kaitlyn__L I think personally the information that they mentioned is wrong, the railcards do work in 1st class and I have done some Virgin Trains 1st Class journeys in the past from London Euston. Also the Disabled Railcard as far as I know, is the only Railcard that you can use all day, even in the morning peak, as most railcards are limited to be used after 9am or 930am Also some advice for 1st class fares is have a look in advance as you can get some good fares but the prices do vary through the day

I think you did amazing with the voiceovers! 😄

The voice-over worked really well. Definitely the right decision to do that rather than trying to talk to the camera while on the train.
It worked well. Good video.

it is super rare for gwr to go to Euston
It is and they be doing it again over the Christmas Period as well. The only problem is that it adds to the Chaos at Euston

Great vlog Simon of GWR diverting into London Euston I bet it’s worth going to Queen’s Park to film GWR Diverts on when they happen!

So GWR took a note out of XC book on overcrowding! But the price isn’t too bad from Swindon 👍 enjoyed the video
Honestly it cannot be enforced at other stations. It's not a bad price but chose 1st Class as it would be easier to film. Thank Tico
