I own Sonarworks 3 and was never happy with its K702 profile, but this sounds fantastic! tried this last night after getting my k701's and got a great mix that sounds good on all playback devices i tested on (FINALLY)...thanks for taking the time to do this! another thing for anyone thinking about k701s and amps/external DAC's... while they might sound better with an external DAC/amp (i've been looking at the fiio k3 as a cheap/decent quality)... on a macbook pro (mid 2012) at least, it drives the k701's loud enough for mixing with no amp... windows laptops probably do benefit a lot more as sound on those is not great quality, but for apple laptops at least it seems to be enough to get a decent mix.
IT might drive it, to a good volume, but you'll be hitting saturation fairly early on, and there's also the high pass and lowpass filters on the MacBook headphone out. Try something like the ifi Zen Can that i reviewed last week if you want to drive them properly with headroom before saturation.

Man,, i use waves nx all the time with my K 702 ,, BUT After this eq curve on ProQ 3 !!! blow my mind ,, it's the exact sound i get from my studio monitors, if not even better

I use the K702's - Mainly as they are over ear. They have never let me down, in either comfort or sound. I'd recommend 'em to anyone. I'm due for another pair.

Still at the end of the day, it's a personal choice, and budget limitations. So many good, and well above average products out there at present - we all hope for a lotto win.

Hi, I was looking for enhancing my mixing with my k701's and found this video. Helped a ton thank you! On a plus side I went with Peter's equalizer APO configurator (Eq for general output). Did you ever used it or would you recommend using something like this instead of plug-ins?
I use the K702's and, although nothing's ever perfect, they sure provide an all around great experience when I am listening to mixes or raw tracks. I can depend on their honesty to give me the right time of day.
Wow! I tried it and it is shocking! The diference in sound is so huge! My mix sounds like shit through this eq preset, and that probably means it was actually sounding like shit without it, I just wasn't noticing because these headphones are not even close to accurate.

how do you account for the Q value differences between plugins that have no cramping like pro Q and others that have cramping? I've found this difficult using highly regarded headphone measurements from the likes of orotary and such but their EQ parameters are for EQ's that have cramping at the top end near the nyquist frequency. not sure if it's imperative to use a specific formula to calculate Q as you do get closer to 20khz or if you just sort of match it as best as you can. would love to hear your thoughts.

Don't forget when putting this plugin in 2 buss (last plugin) to adjust a few db in overal volume. Not the highest value (4.5db) but about 3 db works on most material and ends up under 0 bdfs (this is only when you have limiter and mastering chain when mixing you should have left enough hearroom to fit this EQ at the end.

I just got my702 fresh off the delivery van… My question is, did you do the measuring on broken in headphones or fresh ones? Do they even need to be broken in or it is going to sound like as fresh out of the box? I noticed it is little harsh in the highs, and weak in the bass range. I had a similar experience with speakers, they sounded good when I listened to them in the shop, than I wired the fresh speakers and they sounded very different, so I did some research, and it turned out that they need to be broken in, after 20 or so hours of ware they had been tamed. Is it the case with 702-s too?

Also what are you impressions of Binauralizer and Spatial Audio Designer ? Did you tried those ?
Yes, disable before you bounce your master mix down from a DAW or playback on speakers. Binauralizer and Spacial audio designer (And waves NX) let you monitor surround sound mixes in binaural, none of which really help with stereo translation for music all that much. Can Opener by Goodhertz is my go-to plugin for this.

Put the compensation EQ on the hardware output rather than the mixbus. That way, if you're printing internally to a new audio track, it won't get printed in. Of course, if you're bouncing to disk, that won't make a difference and you'll still need to disable the plugin.
I'd like HD 600s but you can get 702s for much less. So far I have M50x, MDR 7506, ST 770, Superlux 681, Shure SRH 440 and even Rockville M50. All have a pretty flat response. But the 702s seem to be next rather than pay for HD 600. Not to mention I find all Sennheisers I've heard overrated. My 280s are nice but too much bass, so I am selling them.
I sold my Denon D2000, Denon D600, Beyerdynamic 880, Sennheiser 280, Sony 7506, AKG K550, Master & Dynamic MH-40 and was about to sell my K702 as well as none of them gave me accurate results until I saw this video!! I found some of the more expensive studio monitors (ie. Focal, Shure 1840, etc) to really lack bass and way too dry. I produce electronic music and can’t mix on very dry, analytical headphones with no low end. I’m not a bass head at all, but why do they call it “accurate” or “flat” when there’s barely anything below 80-100Hz?! Anyway, thanks for doing this and I’m super happy with my K702 which I’ve now owned for 8 years and just had the ear-pads replaced with Brainwavz earpads and the sound didn’t change much at all.
Akg 701 are one of the best mixing and mastering headphones .People say they lack bass but that is probably because people are used to bass hyped phones

Choosing to compare to other headphones isn't correct way to form a opinion of best curves. If I did a test I'd at least get some etymotics or whatever is considered most accurate today for accuracy to help guess.

Heddphones / LCD-4z are two of the most accurate and evenly balanced pairs available today, especially for studio use, in another league of accuracy compared to a set of etymotic in-ears (which we do also have) We’ll absolutely stand by those two headphones as a good-as-it-gets reference point.

Much prefer to wear hphones myself than in-ears but when only using for eq naturalising their fine as monitors are still quickest way to work for most mixing tasks.
I wouldn't compare to any headphones but rather to speakers. even the highest end headphones are not going to be accurate. they will have less distortion, better dynamics, stage, imaging, and perhaps closer frequency response but it depends on the brands target. audeze headphones all have large dips in the upper mid which typically need to be corrected for. so again id be more keen to compare against a quality set of monitors in a well treated room.

These B-Stock headphones aren’t just second hand, the ones they sent me were damaged. Didn’t notice the damage (it was well hidden) until after the warranty was up. However, hands up to Scan, after my complaint, they sent a brand new cable. I should also say the were shafted by their supplier in the first place.

K702 and K701 are exactly the same except K702 have a removable cable.

Im trying to import this into Fabfilter Q3 . . . its not importing the preset....What am I doing wrong ?

Maybe you are clipping because your computer is bad ? (I am bad to english too lol)
