- This video demonstrates how to scout for walleye on Lake Erie, where I show you the best tips and tricks, so come along for a ride with my buddy Jeff and I as we show you how we do it. When you haven't been a body of water as massive Lake Erie is in a few days, its an intimidating task to find them from scratch. If you follow some of the advice i give, it will shorten the time spent in your search.

Thanks Captain Jim. I use a little lighter bouncer but run almost the same stuff on Oneida lake. Very effective but the smaller lake here tends to cool off from a harness to a jig bite around now. I'll be out tomorrow. 😎
Hope you have a great day. There are so many currents etc to deal with in Erie as it really is a big slow River so the extra weight keeps the baits right on the bottom. We sometimes fish them in 80 to 90 feet with up to 10 ounces! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment!
Two pros showing how it's done!
Awww. You are too kind. 2 old guys that’s for sure

I like the crooked glasses 😂
Ha ha. Was hoping no one would notice.
Hahaha
I like to see the Eastern Basin getting some attention as I fish out Northeast Pa.
It gets really good around Dunkirk and Sturgeon point about mid July and continues till mid to late September. Wish the migration would reach us sooner but I fill in with smallmouth trips till then. I’m sure the bite gets good a few weeks sooner in north east. Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck out there!
Our bite starts about 3rd week of June with any consistency…. I could go west past Erie and Conneaut Oh but then it’s a real cluster over there… I was thinking about getting a NY license since the asshole FEDS & Pa Fish commission are closing down Northeast Marina.. how is the perch fishing up around Dunkirk
@tbsomerville5798 didn’t know that. Sorry to hear. I can catch them in a few weed beds that are few and far between but it’s only good from about 4 am to daylight in June and early July. The resident fish are here but get picked over by the locals and I’ll never take anyone out just for a payday. Perch fishing was light out last fall with some almost 2 lbs. it was crazy. Cat creek is where I primarily go out of for both perch and walleye. Bass out of buffalo and sturgeon point.
I need to get out with you!
That would be a blast! Looking forward to it.
love using BBs
They are the best
My intel is always a day late and a dollar short.
Understand that. Thanks for watching.
You clearly know what you're doing, but you didn't really search for fish in this video. You went directly to a place where you caught them recently, found fish still holding there by using the graph, and caught them. I was hoping for a video where you showed what to do when you didn't find them at the same place you'd been fishing recently.
Hey Jason. Thanks for watching and the great comment. Really appreciate it. I’ll do the next one and keep your comment in mind, to show a cold start without starting in an area i fished before. Check out some of my old TV shows that I did with mark Brumbaugh! They are at the bottom of my video list in a series. We did those many years ago but are still relative and work today.
That crawler was not hooked right.hook the head like you did but then stretch the crawler and then put second hook in.that big hook the worm was making will twist and twirl and not look natural.thats how good the bite is in Erie you can catch them on a cigarette butt!!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Between Jeff ( the worm hooker ) and I this past summer, put over 6000 walleye in our live wells in 247 trips ( not counting bass trips) and have over 80 years of combined guiding under our belts. My harnesses don’t ever spin with a shampoo swivel in line and the hooks are size 2s and 4s. Good luck with those cigarettes butts for bait!
@@JimHanelyfishing just saying try that where walleye’s don’t commit suicide, where the water is gin clear that won’t work! Nice video though
Love it when Joe YT Keyboard Expert tries to tell a pro how to do his job. Always entertaining-great response, Jim! 😅
Ha. Thanks for the comment and for watching! Appreciate you!
