I 100% agree with everything you said. The price point is absolutely ridiculous. When Karl Lagerfeld set up on his own, we didn’t see prices like this and still to this day we don’t see it. Heritage is key to luxury fashion in my humble opinion. Thanks Ca$$ie again for keeping it real ❤
I guess if this was 10 years ago, it’d be more interesting. There are way too many comparable options at a range of price points. Prestige pricing is interesting when no one can vouch for the quality. Chloe and Céline had QC teams, I wonder what that looks like under the namesake brand. At least they offer complimentary returns.
Her pricing was shocking!! I seen one of her handbags for $8500!! I couldn’t believe it. I instantly thought that this is pricing for Chanel. Great video!!
Disappointed & a bit disgusted by the price tag, the lack of inclusivity in sizing, & the hype around this collection. Like I’m actually a fan of Phoebe’s, but she took advantage of her clout with the launch of this collection. You’re so right, Cassie! You don’t have to be a ‘Philo-phile’ to realize that her bags are priced at Chanel/Hermes level. And that her designs are very much in lieu with The Row. I swear I actually thought I was looking at the latest collection of The Row…. I’m sure a lot of planning went into creating this collection - but I really think it was a fail.
It's a new fairy tale called The Empress's New Clothes....sweet little Cassie comes forward to bravely state what everyone else in the industry is afraid to say!
Crazy. I can get a very, very similar look in equally good (?) materials from COS for less than a tenth of the prices. LVMH must think we‘re absolute idiots - and it seems they’re correct in this assumption 😂
I remember Phoebe Philo from back in the days when she designed for Chloe after Stella McCartney’s departure. I loved her style then. It was very feminine and much more approachable. Her style has definitely evolved into something more minimalist and perfect for the quiet luxury trend. I suppose her pricing is reflecting that reach.
People want to love this as something new but it's really nostalgia. All of her sons have grown up and people have moved on. Coupled with Iman's comments and there is just nothing revolutionary here. This feels more like a vanity project than a real brand and with the disdain Khy received the excitement around the brand is more about the name than the clothes. But I'm interested to see what comes next
I think it was Fashion Roadman that was looking at this as well, and given that Phoebe is under LVMH, he posits that Arnault is looking to position her as an elite brand since he can't aquire Hermes or Chanel.
You are like a fantastic sports broadcaster of fashion! The "chiropractor fees" comment had me in stitches. You are the only fashion youtuber I watch. You know your stuff and your comments are too funny! Bravo
Agree with you Cassie! I was never a Philo-phile at all and found her eras at both Chloe and Celine uninteresting. When Hedi Slimane took over, that's when I got interested in Celine. People complain about his direction all the time but I think his direction for Celine is distinct from his work at Dior Homme and YSL. Phoebe Philo's work is just too austere and people say she makes clothes for the regular woman but I personally don't find her silhouettes or accessories very desirable or interesting. It's not even experimental in the way the Japanese designers or Rick Owens are. Also, you're absolutely right in saying that it's understandable to pay those prices in heritage brands like Bottega or Hermes, but not for a brand new house! We as luxury consumers are totally aware that part of what we're paying for is the brand, and that's because many of these brands are heritage houses with storied histories and years of proving their quality. There's no physical shop for these pieces, so you don't even have human contact and service, which is also partly why I enjoy shopping luxury---- the ability to contact your SA and the store and feel the items. The prices are preposterous. I didn't even know about the racism, so that's another yikes.
These brands can put any price they want, and people would still buy their stuff. Look at Chanel, no matter how ridiculous the prices get, people line up outside the brand's stores to spend fortunes on overpriced products.
You never miss with your analyses, Cassie. You're a fashion thriller - always entertaining us with your breakdowns. And you look great in this clip, too! 🙏
The thing is, I'm not able to afford luxury prices, so I search for garments under 500$. But I recently saw a merino wool-cashmere blend long coat for 800$ with 16MM charmuse silk pockets and a same material shorter coat with hood for 600$. Also a 48% Mulberry Silk + 52% Wool blend with mulberry silk lining trenchcoat for 450$. So this brand (lilysilk) can do these special blends under 1000$ with I assume reasonable profit, then why would anybody pay for an extremly similar looking garment with one 0 more? (And phoebe pfilo's trenchcoat has a cupro lining, not silk). It's just insane.
Enjoy your honesty. Astute observation on how many pieces available to be “sold out “. Anyone who can afford these prices doesn’t need to worry whether they love it or not. It’s just the thing. Blessings
Hi Cassie! I missed watching your vids! Sooo busy! I will binge watch this weekend all the vids I’ve missed in the past week! Take care! I will forever be a member of the luxury-addicted family!
These prices for man made fabrics is WILD. The Row, Khaite, Bottega are all Celine Phoebe Philo era copiers - it will be interesting to see how they now move. All prices are insane now - wholesale costs for most brands are ridiculously low. Most shoes or bags are costing $15 - 30 per unit and they're marking it up 20 x minimum.
I haven’t really bought a designer bag and Im not sure if I ever will, but I love watching your videos, Cassie. I’ve just discovered you and I already love what I’m listening to!
@@sfjayhawk5810i kinda thought the same. Feels like many more people are into luxury now, many of them want to seem like true fashionophiles and not just brand chasing so they all bought into the Philo worship recently (similar to the sudden love for The Row now despite not kajy of them seeming to actually dress like that), and many now seem to be pissed that it's like 6k instead of 3k for somerhing not flashy 😅😅 like, I'm wondering if a lower price would've still resulted in the outrage over her comments or the style of the collection. That said, they should've launched it lowkey, not with a big bang. I think all Philo-philes originally ran under the radar, so a lowkey launch would've been more successful. And yes, the prices are atrocious but at this price point it's all just branding anyway, I don't think a $10000 Birkin is actually worth it because of quality (even if high), they may have thought Philo's experience and reputation lends itself to Chanel like pricing.
I fully agree, one of the limited studio collections from COS could give very much the same. Maybe not the same quality, but quite good quality…. Don’t understand it at all….
Appreciate the views here - I am a Philo lover having bought a lot of old celine and I will say the cuts and fit are next level. However I find these prices outrageous it’s clear this is a positioning strategy to ensure this sits as Uber Lux . Also I wonder how much of ‘the industry’ is responsible for sold out
First of all, the Max Mara sweater looks amazing 😍 Love hearing your opinion on this, but also thank you for bringing up some very relevant topics to keep in mind, such as inclusive sizing and past history of the designer. It's nice to hear a balance of your thoughts and some socially relevant comments
thank you for this video, Cassie!! you're killing it as always! 💜i almost purchased some trousers from the collection but then the website crashed and i woke tf up 🤣 just thinking about the price of those totes makes me cringe. i've seen so many comments being like "oh phoebe philo was the one who inspired so many of your favorite contemporary designers" which like, yes, that's true. but the trends she established way back when have evolved yet she's just trying to come back and do the same thing in a world that's changed in her absence. it seems a bit arrogant to me! it'll be interesting to see how long her brand sticks around for.
I must admit I expected much more than what we were served. I bought the black leggings and am waiting for them to arrive. All in all was already disappointed b4 the drop especially with the racist whispers! That really put a damper on my enthusiasm for this. I have no words other than the best thing here is that the video worked!!! Success!!! Woohoo 🎉 love the way you went through this one… you’re the best ❤
I think partially why Phoebe Philo is unattractive to certain woman (aside from the fact that the creative director is most likely racist) is because the audience who wear them must have some form of superior complex being a little bit more artful, “thoughtful” and being a unique plain Jane. I love the quiet luxury trend, but the women who boast about wearing it… I must avoid it
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME YOU DO STAND UP!!!!! I LOVE YOU....the facial expression, the hand gestures, the verbal cuts....I was IN THE FLOOR!!!!! Thank you...THANK YOU...FROM YOUR NEWEST FAN!!!❤😂❤😂❤😂😂❤❤😂😂
Pricing was definitely marketing strategy to increase demand. Truth is most people will see it as more desirable bc only the uber wealthy and collectors will get their hands on it. Also, being that it’s the first drop, these items may increase in value in the future.
You’re on-point Cassie, especially around the pricing. The craftsmanship behind many of those pieces couldn’t possibly justify the price. I would add, the brand feels a little tone deaf to what’s going on in the world. Even if you have money, at what point do you say “Gosh, I can get a plain black leather tote for 100x cheaper.” I think people wear starting to pull back a little, just to be safe. And 💯 on sizing. You use the same fit model from a 0-16 in the US so even making the size run go a little deeper wouldn’t be that much more expensive from a production standpoint. Think their runs on each style were VERY limited.
I love and adore Phoebe Philo first off, I did order a couple items. I was underwhelmed by the collection as a whole, I don’t know if I was expecting more old Celine but a lot of the collection was a little out there for me. I will say I bought 2 items and my total was over 10 grand I now say I have buyers remorse I may be returning not sure I’m so disappointed I waited so long for this and I’m just sad.😞
Love your thoughts always. In terms of the pricing - I’m also a little priced out, but I am someone who would buy PP’s brand (and have some old celine pieces second hand). On your comparison about PP and heritage brands - what’s interesting is that PP has a proven resale value that is, i would say, better than a second hand miu miu/LV coat (etc). I know you enjoy this analytics aspect of the fashion market, but its an interesting thought about how much her second hand old celine prices have impacted her current prices.x
As I said to Alyssa, I think they’re charging 1400 for every year we had to wait to get that bag that’s quite literally heavier than a rock. A rock solid “no” from me.
I feel there's a golden time for any artist - at the right fashion house at the right time. I was hoping to be proven wrong but this collection almost screams I didn't even try :(
Phobie philo prices is right for real she paved the way is this aesthetic of this collection is under in big Brand let's be real the pricing will not be issue also the pricing like the row or loro Piana thing the collection is great but that her first collection we going to have the second 3rd
Another channel mentioned that Phoebe Philo's brand is potentially LVMH's tactics to compete with Chanel and Hermes. There's about 100 units of each items produced aside from the Price Upon Request items. They also mentioned that this pricing approach is already very low for Phoebe and predict pricing increases down the line when she acquires more loyal customer base. Just as when we thought the prices are already extortionate.
Cassie your review of PP's line was stupendous and gave me quite the chuckle. I love fashion but there is so much craziness going on in the world so lets just add this to the list of many with the crazy pricing. As for the sold out pieces I do wonder how many were made available for purchase, especially that coat at $$$$$.
I agree completely with this video, she is not a heritage brand , plus bryanboy saying a bag from hermes is 59,000 like that's only price bracket it is. Also hermes and phoebe can we really compare especially when it comes to leather craftsmanship.
My observations 1. the collection is very Phoebe, which is a good thing as she's been away for so long but also a bit of missed opportunity for some form of modernisation on her aesthetic or reinvention. 2. Supreme style quick draw checkouts for expensive pieces is not luxury shopping, it's hype and that is distasteful at this level. Clients will get bored of this, it's not cute. 3. Some of the pieces are downright hideous. 4. We'll better judge with product in hand, but these prices, without the same retail physical presence where you can touch, try on and properly experience a product before making a purchasing decision, are outrageous.
2:07 i mean jil sander, was first, technically. that at the time the person jil sander wasn't really appreciated, different topic. but even at the time she and philo were pretty similar, just look at +j 2009/10 collab with uniqlo. and that was under a fast fashion retailer philo just got more lucky, and being under celine with their heritage definitely helped her "mythos". was she influential, yes, but she wasn't the first nor the only one, ir the bryanboy bit
Late to this. 1) Honestly people need to ask themselves what was it that they liked about Philo's design . Honestly again, it was luxurious materials cut to a very fit late 20s- onwards cis female body, an elegant mix and match approach and a sense you could Céline stuff for decades and still be stylish. Most of all, the value of the clothes. 2) The sold out bit was straight up marketing- we don't know if it was one thing in stock, whether it was actually things in sample size ( thus the whole sizing up) or whatever. Thing is, there no way a sane person would pay 5x- 10x the price of something from a ready to wear collection. The prices quoted could be downpayment on a 1 bed apt in Manhattan. 3) Your dad is a gem!❤
Let's be real: PP does not have the fashion weight to charge these prices. Karl Lagerfeld was/is one of the most recognizable creative directors in fashion history. When he dropped his eponymous brand, the prices were no where the ridiculousness of Phoebe's prices.
You are entitled to your own opinion as are other influencers. Nobody should come after you because you clearly said you weren’t a fan of Phoebe Philo. I 100% agree with you. All the power to people who are buying the collection but I don’t like the styles either.
I absolutely LOATHED Celines designs under Phoebe Philo and wouldn't have carried one of those goofy-faced bags if someone had paid me. Wretched. But now the bags are much much more sophisticated. Cabas 16 in smooth calfskin? Chefs kiss.
I initially only checked out the bags and was monumentally underwhelmed. I’m a minimalist fashion wise so I had the potential to love this collection. I do like a few of the pieces, especially some of the trousers, but I’m not the target market either as I won’t spend that kind of money on clothes when you can get great quality basics at a fraction of the price. As a uk size 14 it is disingenuous that I’m judged as an ‘XL’ ! I did notice some of the trousers came in Fr 44 which is a UK 16. Hardly inclusive although marginally better
So I have always been a fan - Phoebe at Chloe is what got me into fashion when I was 12, and there are plenty of pluses and minuses but two little things to point out. Did I expect her to go up to a size 22? No, its also just very very difficult for a new brand - BUT as someone who's brand is a "woman who designs for women" in a see of male creative directors, a US size 10 is........ lol. Sure maybe in the most expensive pieces maybe? But when you're line has no clothes for the average sized woman in the US or UK (I dont know the figures for the rest of Europe et al) that is a little shameful as a female designer and brand owner. I have also heard whisperings around the London fashion community that she hasn't exactly been the easiest to work for.... and that may have been a part of the recent launch delay....
a lanyard is a thing that hangs around your neck with your ID on it, for where you work, or a conference. That one matches her style. I appreciate knowing about this and agree it's expensive but expensive is relative. thanks for sharing.
You're hardly a random person, Cassie. Also, your style is fabulous and you genuinely have fun with fashion. You're like a kid in a candy store on your shopping blogs. Fashion brings you joy and you've spread it around to those of us who watch your channel. All I have to say about his collection is...Yikes! This collection is a whole lot of nothing. One can find everything on there with other designers and they do it better, like The Row. The prices are outrageous for what you're getting. The jewelry is overpriced for being plated. 😳 I'll get better jewelry in gold, platinum and stainless steel, thank you. Hell, I could get some fabulous pieces from Shay or Porter Lyons and still have money left over rather than his overpriced crap! The shoes are awful. A couple of them remind me of what little old ladies wore in the 1970's. That's a whole lot of nope! 😂 Even if I liked any of this collection, the racism Philo has displayed over the years would drive me away. I don't support bigots.
It's her brand she has every right to charge whatever she deserves. Fashion is an incredibly misogynistic industry, so I am actually enamoured by an actual female designer who ditches all those male pandering body torturing bullshit and delivers some real design. She asks a pretty penny for those designs, even better. She *made* Celine. That is Karl-Lagerfeld-for-Chanel status. So stop acting like she has to do community service for you and sell at Zara prices. Honestly I am sick and tired of "designers" who make women dress up as either a teen gay man or an avstar that has testicles for boobs. Women like Pheobe are too few and far between, and they will always be welcomed by people like me.
You would think with how long it's taken her to come out with the brand, she would have had time to develop a fully size inclusive range of products. Also those prices are crazy for any brand, let alone a new one!!
This collection feels very exclusive for her inner circle: from price to size, it seems like a fashion industry brand for fashion industry people.

If ‘go girl, give us nothing!’ was a collection tbh
It’s her telling folks to size up when her brand only goes up to a size 10.🥴
Also that “yeti” coat is 100 percent viscose🥴
Like WHAT 🫠
Nooo 🫣
Viscose cream coat is giving TikTok luh calm fit opium/erosion bird vibes💀
I support you thoughts on this 100%. A lot of money for unoriginal mostly plain clothes. I am doubtful she can sustain this momentum.
💖💖
To be honest, we dont know if its manufactured momentum......
Bye, Bryan. Phoebe has shown nothing that would indicate her line is worth those prices. Hell, she isn’t even using super quality, exclusive fabrics!
Bryanboy has been out-of-touch ages ago.
I went through the site and was like…’THIS is what the Philo stans have been waiting on???’
Same 🙈😂
When you said the shoes "give Louis XIV"--I laughed out loud. You crack me up, Cassie. I am a bit disappointed after all that anticipation--it's been like waiting for the second coming...haha
That’s how people were making it seem! 😂😂💖
This!!!!
Yes, seems she dusted off her old sketches & continued on…forgetting we are now in 2023.
Her pricing was shocking!! I seen one of her handbags for $8500!! I couldn’t believe it. I instantly thought that this is pricing for Chanel. Great video!!
A definite NO for me. Especially since her brand is unproven
Imagine having everyone wait for your collection for such a long time and what you give them is huge square totes priced at $8k
Crazy. I can get a very, very similar look in equally good (?) materials from COS for less than a tenth of the prices. LVMH must think we‘re absolute idiots - and it seems they’re correct in this assumption 😂
yes!!!!!
The whisper ‘I don’t think you’re missing out’ 😂😂😂😂
🙈🙈
It’s what we’re here for….. living for the honesty 🤣
Why you are a star, you give your unfiltered opinions. Thank you for your professionalism!💪🏽✨🌟✨
🥹🙈💖💖
People want to love this as something new but it's really nostalgia. All of her sons have grown up and people have moved on. Coupled with Iman's comments and there is just nothing revolutionary here. This feels more like a vanity project than a real brand and with the disdain Khy received the excitement around the brand is more about the name than the clothes. But I'm interested to see what comes next
Cassie is QUICK with this video!! my thoughts when I saw these was like ‘how is this almost sold out?!’ 😂💕
I think it was Fashion Roadman that was looking at this as well, and given that Phoebe is under LVMH, he posits that Arnault is looking to position her as an elite brand since he can't aquire Hermes or Chanel.
I’m hanging with Iman. Much better company.
😉💖
I think the hype and limited number led to selling out, because it certainly wasn't the aesthetic or the reasonable pricing. 😅
😂🙌🏽
These brands can put any price they want, and people would still buy their stuff. Look at Chanel, no matter how ridiculous the prices get, people line up outside the brand's stores to spend fortunes on overpriced products.
At least Chanel has history and prestige and legend.
@@moremiaj4786 but are the annual price increase and the way they treat customers justified because of its legacy and history?
Lux is for the RICH.
“Yeti Coat”! You made my morning start with a laugh. I appreciate that!
Cassie... I love that you're not afraid to say what you're thinking when it comes to overpriced and basic designs lol.
I missed seeing your name! But I know life is busy - happy to know you’re still here 💖💖
These prices for man made fabrics is WILD.
“Phoebe Philo knows how to dress the modern women*”
*T&C applies. “Women” refers to women of specific sizes, colour and wealth level.
😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Her specific, very niche type of woman
Similar to every other lux brand. These fashun girlies are just angry she’s priced them all out.
So many of these pieces are giving COS. And I’d definitely take COS prices instead 😂.
Also I wonder how much of ‘the industry’ is responsible for sold out
First of all, the Max Mara sweater looks amazing 😍
Love hearing your opinion on this, but also thank you for bringing up some very relevant topics to keep in mind, such as inclusive sizing and past history of the designer. It's nice to hear a balance of your thoughts and some socially relevant comments
That brooch!!😳 I thought she had a bird on her shoulder!!😂 I stand with Cassie!! 💕
no level of fandom would justify spending this kind of money IMO. This is ridiculous
That bag as you said, it’s cost more than that Bottega Andiamo. And your Andiamo (the style and size) is guaranteed Bottega’s lifetime warranty.
Exactly. If that bag breaks what’s her aftercare like?
thank you for this video, Cassie!! you're killing it as always!
You remain my trusted source for luxury fashion insights, thank you Cassie ❤
I must admit I expected much more than what we were served. I bought the black leggings and am waiting for them to arrive.
All in all was already disappointed b4 the drop especially with the racist whispers! That really put a damper on my enthusiasm for this.
I trust your opinion more than that of any other influencer bc you have proven yourself time and time again! You are honest and call it as it is! You are not beholden to crap and I love you for that! Your opinion matters a whole lot to me!💗💪🏿💪🏿
Jil sander is around a long time. Always liked her things and bought several pieces,,years ago, that don't fit anymore 😥

I have no words other than the best thing here is that the video worked!!! Success!!! Woohoo 🎉 love the way you went through this one… you’re the best ❤
Thank you! I’ve had enough of those technical difficulties let me tell you! 😂
@@CassieThorpe I’m sure it’s frustrating but we will always wait for you!!! It’s always worth it 😉
I think they've. just made very limited quantities so they get sold out quickly. That 8k rectangle bag looks like sth from Priimark
😂😂😂
I think partially why Phoebe Philo is unattractive to certain woman (aside from the fact that the creative director is most likely racist) is because the audience who wear them must have some form of superior complex being a little bit more artful, “thoughtful” and being a unique plain Jane. I love the quiet luxury trend, but the women who boast about wearing it… I must avoid it
I highly doubt anyone from the company cares about you avoiding it.
@@rockyhrndz and I commented this under a video that criticizes the brand. Move tf along Phoebe fan
We will NOT be supporting racist Philo, sorry!
Spot on! Thanks for this informative review. Love that you cover fashion in detail!!❤❤
Love the new jumper. Saw it on the unboxing with Christian....
Thanks I love it too!!
Pricing was definitely marketing strategy to increase demand. Truth is most people will see it as more desirable bc only the uber wealthy and collectors will get their hands on it. Also, being that it’s the first drop, these items may increase in value in the future.
I love your thoughts on this, Cassie! It’s refreshing to hear honest opinions from an influencer. I don’t get the PP hype at all after this launch.
10:06 Louis the XIV clip clopping around in his little Versailles home 😂😂
Love the Hermes girlies who just *can’t* with Philo’s launch lollll
HERMES is a heritage brand, haven't you watched the whole video or are you also tone deaf like the brand new PP brand?
Great points! I wasn’t super into her under Celine, but was curious about her launch. I was completely underwhelmed and stunned at the pricing.
With these prices, I guess she have 5 pieces of each item 😅 that’s why they sold out
1 of some 👀😂
Love your thoughts always.
I was hoping to be proven wrong but this collection almost screams I didn't even try :(
The lanyard. lol Love the pause there🤣
Phoebe Philo changed the landscape for female creative directors working for luxury companies. Most CD are men. Her heritage is more than her designs.
It all looks like expensive Zara to be harsh...but the people that can afford her brand probably don't know Zara exists 😂
I agree completely with this video, she is not a heritage brand , plus bryanboy saying a bag from hermes is 59,000 like that's only price bracket it is. Also hermes and phoebe can we really compare especially when it comes to leather craftsmanship.
I saw a horrid article recently saying “Bye bye booty, heroine chic is back!” and this seems to be attesting to that. SO SAD….
2:07 i mean jil sander, was first, technically. that at the time the person jil sander wasn't really appreciated, different topic. but even at the time she and philo were pretty similar, just look at +j 2009/10 collab with uniqlo. and that was under a fast fashion retailer
philo just got more lucky, and being under celine with their heritage definitely helped her "mythos". was she influential, yes, but she wasn't the first nor the only one, ir the bryanboy bit
All luxury products aren’t “worth” the pricing which is why these brands are highly profitable.
“Yeti emerging” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Phoebe Philo doesn’t care what do you think…. look your bags background, just different universes.😂
Perfect example of the fact that some people have more money than sense
Even if I liked any of this collection, the racism Philo has displayed over the years would drive me away.
I wonder if this designer was wanting to capitalize on the “quiet luxury” resurgence? Because everything is so minimalistic. Just a thought.🤔
You would think with how long it's taken her to come out with the brand, she would have had time to develop a fully size inclusive range of products. Also those prices are crazy for any brand, let alone a new one!!
No lux house has a full size inclusive anything. Even bringing it up shows what lack of knowledge about the industry fashun girlies have.
Cassie I really really obsessed with your daily videos you are my inspiration and I wish you have a fabulous fabulous week ahead 🥺💖💖
Have a fabulous week! 💖
