OK, Phobe is great, but why doesn't anyone mention that Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Jil Sander created that feminine minimalist aesthetic BEFORE Philo ? And Armani, Halston, were even before that. PP is just building on that legacy, she didn't invent it.

Absolutely agree with you. We shouldn't also forget designers like Narcisco Rodriguez and if you look at Jean Paul Gaultier work late 90s early 2000s. But you can see the influence of her in other designers and contemporaries of her generation, such as Proenzer Schouler and Balenciaga of that period.

I think they do but we’re jsut now living in a time where this happened more recently if that makes sense

Absolutely agree! She is by no means the inventor and certainly not an island. The challenge is keeping videos concise enough to stay on point and not lose people which is definitely a struggle but agree a mention of her influences would’ve been a good addition. Thank you for mentioning, we’ll keep this in mind for our next video! 💖

Yohji, Ann Demeulmeester, Ackerman & many more have brilliantly done minimalism. Sure, PP didn't invent minimalism but she did make it covetable. Also, the brands you mentioned all have a common factor & that is restraint. Don't get me wrong, I like old JS & CK 90's mininalist clean aesthetic but let's be honest, it is bland. Phoebe had a somewhat different approach, I think many of her designs are super playful. So are H. Chalayan's, off the top of my head. Thinking of that iconic (& spectacular) Yves Klein dress or her 2018 super covetable trench pieces & of course Chalayan's whole criminally underrated body of work. My point here is, minimalism as an art movement or concept dates back to early & mid 20th century, the way you apply its principles to your own work is what is relevant, not who did it first. Excuse my ramblings, I just had lunch & want to take a nap but am instead frantically typing on my phone haha..

I think the difference is that those designers were a movement and they collectively shifted fashion, where as she was like Muccia Prada before her who shifted fashion on a singular level. But there is no denying that those designers along with the Japanese designers built foundations for Philo to do her thing. 😊
