My 2007 H3 just began having issues starting, now the STAB SYS indicator/warning light. 157,000 miles on it. Thanks for the video. I think I’ll start with this first.
Hi JPVern! Those little scan tools are well worth the small investment. Mine paid for itself the first time I used it. When my TPS first started acting up, I got the same message. It also had issues running when first started. It acted like an old carbureted vehicle without a working choke. We call it "Cold collared" here in Kentucky. Ran very poorly until it warmed up.
stab sys traction control fail is usually the yaw sensor under the driver seat, under carpet, it gets waterlogged from the leaky sunroof drains in the H3 try that 1st as they are cheap fix and easy to replace . then use a code reader and reset
A code reader is a GREAT investment on these things. It sure beats throwing parts at one! The "Stab Sys" message on this one was likely triggered by it going into reduced power mode due to the throttle position sensor mismatch with the accelerator pedal P2135 code. Thanks for pointing out the sensor location to look for on a "Stab Sys" code. Good stuff! I've also heard mention of a bad grounding terminal near the top of the dash giving "Stab Sys" codes due to water intrusion and the resulting corrosion. Thanks!
Gotta tell you how relieved I am to see yours @ 340k , just hit 250k on mine and really enjoy driving it. Any major things to look out for on the way to 340? Just did all my bushings, alternator, coils, plugs, belt, valve cover gasket and fluids. Runs smoother than new. Keep the videos coming !
Jim I had the transmission rebuilt in 2021. The input shaft splines stripped. No fault of the Hummer, this is a known fault on those 4L60E type transmissions. I've done a few small things like replace the water pump and the throttle body but the transmission has been the only big ticket item so far. Thanks!
@@KentuckyFriedFixes I've got a oil pump that needs to be fixed, and the same issue of reduced power stab system failed. In my 07 H3 I'm around 238k miles but hopefully this video will help at least fix the traction failed reduced power
@@DavisBranden-vk8dc I've not had any issues with my oil pump (knock on wood) but I think the oil pump is in the front cover on these. Shouldn't be too bad to install a new one as there's quite a bit of room to work, though I've not had to drop the pan on mine yet, it looks like there's plenty room to do so. That TPI sensor and the acceleration pedal sensor have been the most common issues on mine that caused the "Stab System Failed" message. I've replaced both twice. This last time I learned my lesson and bought the lifetime warranty parts. Oh, and one of the new accelerator pedals was bad out of the box! No more discount parts for the Hummer! Thanks for stopping in and keep the faith on your Hummer. I'm at almost 360K miles now and the only major expense I've had was a transmission rebuild. The front splines on the input drum wore out and stripped due to the "modest" mileage!
Hi Dustin! Make sure he gets the lifetime warranty parts. I didn't the first time and I learned my lesson. The cheapies last as long as their warranty then fail.
Great video! Thank you very much for taking the time to do this. I am having the same issue. When I spray electronic component cooler on the ECM the problem immediately goes away. I replaced the ECM and still having the issue intermittently. My next step was to replace the throttle body. What do you think?
Hi Rob! If you're getting the P2135 code, there's the throttle position sensor, the accelerator pedal sensor, or the wiring. GM came out with a procedure to pull the connectors off the components and spray a tuner cleaner or some dry nonconductive spray to clean the connectors to make sure it's not a bad connection. But it's most likely one of the two sensors has failed. I'm sure there's methods to test the individual components but with mine it had over 300K miles so I was comfortable replacing one at a time and it was ok with me if I ended up replacing both. Still cheaper than a visit to the dealer. I was told GM recommends replacing both sensors when one has failed, I don't really believe that though, but it's still a fairly inexpensive repair if you replace both.
No need to reprogram. The only thing you need to do is turn the key on to the run position (not start) and let the computer cycle through the system checks. Once it finds out the throttle position sensor is working you're good to go. Takes less than a minute.
Hi Terrance, that would mean the stability system has a failure. Could be lots of things like wheel sensors and other stuff too but in this case what caused my Hummer H3 to go into low speed mode was the throttle body sensor. If the readings between the throttle position sensor and the accelerator pedal sensor don't jive, it puts the vehicle into the reduced power or low speed mode. I guess they do this so you can limp it home, even if you have to drive really slow. If you're getting that message you'll need to read the codes with a scan tool then look up the error code to see what's not working. The scan tools were between $20-$30 then, they may be priced more now. Hope this helps!
This video covers Code P2135 which is an issue with the reading between the throttle position sensor and the accelerator position sensor and or wiring. That's what caused mine to go into reduced power mode with the Stab Sys Traction Failed message. You'll need to check your code with a code reader to determine if this fix will work for you or not. The messages received from the computer on this one are listed in the video. More info is listed in the description and within a few of the comments here. GM service centers may recommend replacing both sensors and although I originally thought that was a bit excessive, my accelerator position sensor DID fail, so maybe it's not overkill to replace both after all.
Hey man I’m hoping you get back with me I’m having similar issues I go out to my 2008 h3 and my battery light comes on with the sys light traction light on saying it’s failed and my 4 high 4 low and neutral light will on start blinking and when I go to drive it my whole hummer will jerk real bad could this be the throttle body? My engine light is not on. Buddy said it’s the PCM but I’m hoping it’s not because that’s a expensive fix
Hi Gannon! Plug into that diagnostic connector and check it for codes. If you don't have a code reader almost any parts place can check it for codes free of charge in most cases. Even if the engine light is not on, it may have a code stored. (Check Engine Indicator bulbs can be damaged or intentionally disconnected in some cases to hide a problem if you're not the first owner). Your problem sounds a lot like it could be in the driveline or wiring. Usually when a Hummer is having issues with the 4wd indicator lights it means the transfer case actuator motor or wiring needs to be looked at. Something is causing it to have trouble shifting the transfer case. In some cases there have been broken shift fork issues in the transfer case that can cause the symptoms you described too. Driveline issues should be corrected immediately. It could mean the difference between replacing an actuator motor if caught early, or replacing the entire transfer case if the problem is allowed to continue unchecked. Don't be afraid to take it to a professional if you feel you may be in over your head. The money you save will be your own. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Those are just a few things I would suggest looking into according to the symptoms you describe. Remember, step 1 check for codes and go from there.
@@KentuckyFriedFixes thank your sir I’m hoping it’s just a shortage or something but i appreciate u getting back with me I’ll let you know what wrong with it when the shop looks at it
I have too do mine soon, I cleaned it the first time this happened, it worked but it does come back after a while, few months later it’s slowly starting to act the same as it did prior to getting this code
I did the same thing the first time Jason. Cleaned it up (and it was plenty gummed up) but it started throwing the P2135 code again soon after. Replaced it last year with the part from Amazon which lasted just past the warranty period. I replaced that one in this video with the lifetime warranty part. I was surprised how clean the throttle body was this time when I removed it. I don't know if Shell gas is the reason it was clean or not but that's the absolute only brand I've used in it since the first repair. Thanks for watching/commenting.
Yep Elvin, great point, that P2135 code can also mean the accelerator pedal position sensor too or a bad wire between them. I've read online and been told by GM dealership mechanics that you're supposed to test and if one is bad, replace both as a set if your vehicle is registering a P2135 code but I don't believe that. If only one of them is bad it shouldn't affect the other. The reason I knew mine was the throttle body position sensor for sure is because I had already replaced the accelerator pedal sensor a few days before thinking there was no way a fairly new TPS sensor could be bad. I was wrong, the cheap throttle body I purchased last year had indeed failed just after the warranty expired. Dorman lifetime warranty parts from now on for me.
Thank you so much for this video!!! Freaked out when i saw the “reduced power” message. Your video will make changing this easy!!!
Glad it was helpful!
