I didn't graduate from high school and am currently finishing up my credits for only English and history. I'm now 33 with no kids. But throughout my 20s, I was lucky enough to experience different types of jobs. From working for an after-school program for troubled students, a club promoter, helped my dad, who owned a few bakery shops in San Francisco, worked at a warehouse doing inventory for a family friend, had a side job doing makeup. I taught myself in so many ways growing up. It was so difficult having to grow up so young, no regrets. I live my life as a minimalist. I'm so passionate about learning how to farm, maybe learn more agriculture and horticulture. I will never stop learning because, in the end, I overcame many traumas and continue to thrive to live a free life without any stress. Thank you for sharing your story! New subscriber!

When I was working one of my more recent 9 to 5's in the nonprofit world, I was struck by how "owned" I felt by the company. Every part of my life revolved around my job, even on weekends. My healthcare, pension, gym membership, cellphone, vacations were all associated with the job. Then came the mandatory off site, after hours team building stuff (forced fun on the employee's time off) and "wellness" initiatives like trying to get us to weigh ourselves at work for weight loss challenges, etc. Finally when I left they had us doing mandatory diversity trainings (inflammatory anti racist indoctrination meetings) which left staff feeling confused and demoralized. What a nightmare. Yeah, I was owned.
i experienced the very same thing, cog in a large machine - only purpose of the cog is the betterment of the machine, sadly most others around would not question the situation and double down on being a better cog along with with increasing personal expenses to match the pay - no room for stepping out of line then, working round the clock to pay for latest model car, iphone, ipad, mac and expensive mortgage... I left when wearing rainbow effects became mandatory and HR chuckled at my reasoning for not doing so - being a Christian deemed to be some unsavoury creature on par with German Nazis from 1939...
Had a taste of the "wage slavery" back in uni and realised so much of my time revolved around it, even weekends. It was all so wrong, but seeing everyone else doing it made the idea that surely there's something better seem off or ridiculous. I would study for 40-50hrs per week and eventually realised a 9-5 would provide the same feeling - depression, lack of fulfillment, such a dead end routine. I quit and never felt so free. I've learnt in the past year more than I ever did in school.
I strongly agree. Yet, I'd rather be a slave to myself than someone else. I'm trying extremely hard to come up with something great and break free of a company taking care of me. I'm just also being extremely cautious on who I work with and allow into my life. That's also important for me.

Pretty much. Man is meant to toil the earth. I used to get so upset about it growing up, I thought life was a scam. I'm just happy to work on something im passionate about, even if its for a company.
Man you are so right about this I quit working for the system in 2011. I used to work 80 plus hours a week and made around 13k a month I was so tired of it when I found out my boss was charging the clients about 6x my hourly rate. I started to realize that everything was a scam or a lie thats what we are told is the American dream was no more than chains of slavery. College debt, mortgage debt, car loan debt, credit card debt. I was lucky I didnt have much debt i paid it all off and left the country went to thailand where my money would go much further. The funny thing was when I would meet other expats and share this slave idea they would get pissed and many of them didnt want to hang out anymore after bouncing around asia for a few years I finally ended up in the Philippines and now farm a few hundred hectars of sugar cane. Its only harvested once a year and I can live a free life as long as I keep up with the irrigation and fertilizer schedule and be there when its harvested and pick up the check from the sugar cane mill. I am getting bored though cause ive kinda run out of things i want to do after doing what i want to do for a decade so now im looking for something to take up some time.

i made the decision in 2011 that i would never work a "job" again, i gave up and leaned in entirely to whatever would be, i traveled around homeless for a short time and ended up living in the woods and farming. now i own my own market farm business. if it ever fails i will go hula hoop on the street/sidewalk anywhere and everywhere. it's a choice. you just have to make it. though i do contend with this that once children are in the picture the ability to just "follow your dreams" or quit working for just money may not be possible, i understand needing to do whatever you can to provide for your children. if your are on the fence, take the leap, what's meant to be for you will catch you.
Pushing 40 and have spent almost 20 years in design and marketing. Only recently have started thinking seriously about what my text 20 years will look like and what "success" might mean to me. There are two very important things I am trying to focus on now: #1. "Ikegai" which is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person a sense of purpose. I started my own e-commerce business last December. Before doing that I made 80k per year, had credit card debt I couldn’t seem to shake, lived well but wasn’t thriving. Each time I got a raise it was like the economy knew and figured some other way to hold me down. Since I started my own company I’m 100% debt free, I won’t say how much I’ve made, but I can tell you I don’t fear anymore. I see things differently. I feel capable. I can tell my boss to fuck off at my day job. I got a raise and a promotion I don’t care about. Some how I haven’t quit despite not needing the job anymore, but I can see the path to freedom.
This is so true Jeff. Being your own boss help us to understand who we really are because we are allowed to solve different problems, and we have the courages to be on our own. Even if it's not getting a lot of money at the beginning, it's still something worthy to do lifewise.

It's true! If I would have stayed within my means of working for other people based on my skillset, I would never be able to pay off my momma's mortgage. But taking the same skillset and figuring out where in the business world I could open up my own shop was the best thing I ever did. I don't like the use of the word slavery but some people through their mind create their own version via an employer or career they can not leave. Self learn and open your own shop folks, there are no more pensioner jobs. There is no more retirement to gift to your loved ones, there is only the ability to figure out your own market worth and start charging for it competitively. Your wage at your job is not competitive, an employee wage is literally bottom of the market.
The thing that has baffled me for my whole mature life is that so many people talk about how to get money and how to be creative and “successful”….when totally ignoring the fact that the amount of money demanded from us for the basics of life, is vastly more important. Why is it that most people seem unwilling or unable to comprehend this systemic and ubiquitous burden that is imposed on virtually everyone? It has always made me feel that most people are NPCs, which has always been a feeling did not want to feel. I mean, the etymology, of “rent” and “mortgage” tells you that this is a slave world. But most people seem to not have the ability to think about this.
I was a slave in a government job with all of it's idiot policies and office politics for 30 years. I'd been divorced and could not even afford to DREAM of owning a home. After I "retired", I started a little service business. It succeeded and after only two years I was able to afford a home. I wasn't making tons of money, but I do a hell of a lot better than working for someone else. What I'm doing here is reacting to the title of this video. Most employers will pay employees just enough to keep their "heads above water". When YOU own the business, YOU control your paycheck. I learned much too late in life. BUT, I finally learned. It's a whole new feeling of self-respect.

I like all videos you published recently, as well as this one. The only thing I would improve here is to provide a kind of step-by-step example how some employers switched to entrepreneurs. Like did they work on the side for 1 hour everyday, or did they quit job to start or something else and kind of rate the risk and stress for those examples. I’m excited for this generation to start to break the conditioning. Shits about to get real here in the next 10 years and I don’t think many people are prepared to fend for themselves not just physically but mentally as well. Think about all the systems we rely on to be there when we have a problem. Now imagine no one answers the phone, there is no customer support, no hospital, no grocery store. The internet will go away and we are going back to small communities supporting each other. Best thing to do is become a person of value that has something to bring so you can survive. thank you for everything you said around 21:30. i feel like i’ve failed at so much but i need to shift my mindset to realize those are all growths. and fail is a funny word. i guess i didn’t fail - i sold products, consultant services etc - but never enough to replace my 9-5. right now i’m working on structuring time in my 9-5 to work on me and figuring out how all my skills link together for one business. i’m torn between doing something similar to my job (risk management nurse) or something related to my personal life. i am a special needs mom that has been through hell and back and somehow i’m still standing. i think the latter will inspire more people. and lately i’ve been making content on how moms can advocate for their special needs child - so that almost combines both … so maybe there is something to that 🤷🏻♀️. thanks for all you do - you are truly transform people’s lives.
I see it as you start a 9-5 that has the skill sets you want to develop. You put in your time get money back and sweat equity on your skills. Then you take the saved money and the skill sets and fly on your own. I see so many options in society it’s hard to call it slavery. That doesn’t feel like abundance mindset. It’s something like decided habits or routines cause everybody got choices out the whazoo these days.

Being a "wage slave" imo is a necessity to learning professional skills and understanding first hand the processes and ethics of businesses in the first place. I'm still a "slave" myself, but in a trade with a high skill ceiling that almost linearly increases pay while mastering the trade so my goal is to eventually do exactly as you say here. While it's true career options continue to increase as time goes on that most people find a 9-5 they genuinely find fulfilling, a lot of these careers are simply not paid the amount they should be which is leading to systemic failures within these poorly paid jobs. Many of which involve the general public's safety. It's this observation that makes me believe 90% of the global population is genuinely a slave to some system with varying levels of corruption. Including many business owners themselves as slaves to a system.

11:30 It's all about conscious choice imo. Like you said in the beginning of the video people will be triggered by the title. You're not a slave when you feel like you don't have to stay somewhere you don't like, that you can be flexible and move around and consciously choose and built the routine you enjoy. You can be a one-person business and be a slave or a 9-5 and be a slave. One thing that has been the greatest gift for me in this, is to be completely debt free that frees you up so much.
Dude I wish UA-cam existed in the form it does now when I was 20. It would have helped me immensely to get out of my miserable head and learn how to become independent. I was always aware that I was a wage slave, but I lacked the knowledge and perspective to free myself.
People don’t want to be “slaves” but they’re not willing to give up their addictions, entertainment and shiny material possessions. Can’t have your cake and eat it too. Breaking free from those worldly attachments is necessary to not be a “slave.” Personally, I’m debt free. I owe no person or institution a dime and I work a 9-5 with absolute happiness, where others I work with hate their lives… it’s not the job’s fault, it’s their own beliefs and actions that are to blame.
Also, my 9-5 needs me more than I need them. They know that and because of that mixed with my excellent work ethic, I take vacations often without repercussion and feel no fear of being fired for taking a day off for health, recreation or whatever else.

Now, everyone in the town works at this facility and it was intriguing to me that I googled what all taconite is useful for. I was amazed. I no longer am gonna allow an employer, colleagues, and boss define my worth. Pay attention to what you’re investing your time on. Are you mindlessly scrolling for hours and saying you don’t have time for the gym. I think when we change paradigms you can start investing your time in what you love with consistency, it will grow. I've always wanted to be my own boss but I'm pretty lazy. I don't self-motivate well and I cap out at 40 hr/wk. There is a profound satisfaction in conquering your slice of the world, but I (at least currently) don't possess the workaholic nature that I find is necessary to succeed in entrepreneurship. It would be nice though...
I am stuck in an awkward middle where I dont quite want to be a slave, however I lack a single entrepreneurial bone in my body (even aptitude tests repeatedly score me extremely low on sales, marketing and people skills in general). I don't necessarily have a choice in the matter regardless of what I may want, unless there was a magical way of building a business without ever having to deal with another soul.
There are all kinds of slaves. Sometimes not only are you a slave to your job, but also to your family. Often it's your family that keeps you a slave. I feel like that with my family sometimes. They always have their hand out. If i dont work they don't eat or get the things they need.

I've been working on building a software product for almost 4 years now. It started slowly because when you have to divide your time between a full time job and socialising on the weekend, there's not a lot left over. Now I'm working on it every day and it's finally becoming something I think is really amazing. In the New Year I'll be able to shift gears into building an audience and sharing it. I hope it will start picking up steam, but even if it never achieves anything, I've completely transformed myself. If I were to try another business, I'd be able to do it better and faster. Even though I don't have the results to show yet, the truth is I've completely levelled up across the board - not just with business but in exercise, nutrition, sleep, self-control, self-knowledge, skills, etc.
As a Single Mom I feel entrepreneurship has to be a standard just to survive, raising a child (or children) on your own. I was laid off z3x since the pandemic. I’m a single mom and it’s been a struggle for me to even want to go back into a regular job because I fear getting broken up with again LOL😁 This is something I have a passion to teach other single moms . Not just helping women started their own online business, or all moms…. Specifically the single mom that is going to have many more obstacles in their journey to financial freedom and trying to start an online business. Especially with the welfare system and state programs that sort of help most single moms become dependent on the government for help. Also, feeling like the only way to make a full-time living is to have a full-time job, leaving you barely any time to spend time with your kids and maintain your household and own self care. It’s been a struggle for me for almost 6 years, and I have slowly been figuring it out by eliminating distractions, getting rid of debt, forming better habits, and processes that give me more time to create an online business and be creative.
You definitely should lean into using your story to reach a niche demographic, I’m sure there’s a lot of single moms that are desperate for an answer to their financial woes. I hope that you get on social media and create engaging content that changes lives, and puts you higher up the attention pyramid.

Yes, Perhaps one of the most common forms of slavery, is that of Conformity. When most people have been programmed, from a young age to fit in, to believe commonly held beliefs, without even questioning them. -That can hold them in a position of mindless existence, without any clear direction or personal sense of purpose. Merely existing, to exist. What You mentioned about the importance of where attention is focused , also eludes to the issue that perhaps many people, dont actually have Any Idea of what they need to focus on to improve their lives and thrive. That the essence of the truly important, is being overlooked and replaced with what we've been gradually brainwashed into believing is important, or deserves our attention, (often because most everyone else is doing it.) Our brains have been hijacked, by the trivial, in some cases and the world/life has become overly complicated and artificially sped up. The antidote perhaps, is to simplify and return to the essential values and goals of eg: How we can promote more Love, acceptance, balance, more connection with nature, understanding and healthy supportive communities and connections? Perhaps also to ask the question, - What is causing separation instead of community and provide the solutions, at least in part, through our creative endeavours.

Hi from the Gold Coast I watch you from time to time and really enjoy your videos. They are very motivational today. It really hit me. Because I am a cashier at hospitality. I’m an entrepreneur and it stressful all the time, I was much less stressed when I worked for someone else. I have friends that tell me how great it is but they don’t go to sleep with issues and wake up with them. A lot of that has to do with being an employer and trying your best to improve team performance but always having one or two stragglers that fall short. I didn’t know what I was getting into clearly, I wouldn’t go back on it but I just disagree that every person should be an entrepreneur… if successful it can be really good, if not it will implode your whole life. The title is perfect because this is all anyone hears these days but there is nothing wrong with getting in on a growing company and if you work with good people, treat it like your own and help grow then you should be rewarded for that along the way. Gary V has a segment on this, “everyone” should not be an entrepreneur, there are great opportunities for people to be a 2-5 at a growing company.
Great video Dan. I'm a wage slave as a Software Engineer. The pay is good but I'm not feeling fulfilled. I'm currently on a fitness journey, I've lost 20 lbs and running my first half marathon in 2 weeks. I've been slowly building my personal app which helps me plan my meals, and provides daily macronutrient information so I can keep track of my goals. I was tired of constantly writing down and calculating recipes by hand, I hope it can help others too.

I currently feel like a wage slave. 4am-3pm. And doing the math on what I make for my time and energy, versus the revenue I directly help generate under sh!tty conditions really pisses me off. But I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, since I was very young. I’m mid-forties now and have a little money to do something with, but I’m starting from the ground floor. Even having had a grandfather who was a financial advisor/VP at a prominent Boston company, I’m a newbie at investing. I’m also a long latent artist, intent on making that a profitable part of my life again, as it has been before. I’ve reached that point where a new chapter is due.
I have the same mindset and I quit the slavery in Dec, 2019. But it's amazing to observe that every slave I worked during my slavery period only wanna stay in touch with me to ensure that if anyhow I choose the same path and get back into slaves lifestyle because they won't digest how could I even survive without Job. Thank you for getting it. The fundamental problem with our society that leads to "wage slavery" is still very bad even if you can "be your own boss." The fundamental problem is to say something like "If you don't have money, you don't deserve to live unless someone wants to pay you for something." Whether or not someone wants to pay you for something is really not a function of how hard you work or are willing to work or anything reasonable, just the capricious judgments of people around you. We need to do much better than this.

I didn't graduate from high school and am currently finishing up my credits for only English and history. I'm now 33 with no kids. But throughout my 20s, I was lucky enough to experience different types of jobs. From working for an after-school program for troubled students, a club promoter, helped my dad, who owned a few bakery shops in San Francisco, worked at a warehouse doing inventory for a family friend, had a side job doing makeup. I taught myself in so many ways growing up. It was so difficult having to grow up so young, no regrets. I live my life as a minimalist. I'm so passionate about learning how to farm, maybe learn more agriculture and horticulture. I will never stop learning because, in the end, I overcame many traumas and continue to thrive to live a free life without any stress. Thank you for sharing your story! New subscriber!

It's quite an epiphany when it finally dawns on you. Most people can't see past the conditioning, since they're completely unaware of it. They just do what they're "supposed to" solely because it's what they're "supposed to" do.

When I was working one of my more recent 9 to 5's in the nonprofit world, I was struck by how "owned" I felt by the company. Every part of my life revolved around my job, even on weekends. My healthcare, pension, gym membership, cellphone, vacations were all associated with the job. Then came the mandatory off site, after hours team building stuff (forced fun on the employee's time off) and "wellness" initiatives like trying to get us to weigh ourselves at work for weight loss challenges, etc. Finally when I left they had us doing mandatory diversity trainings (inflammatory anti racist indoctrination meetings) which left staff feeling confused and demoralized. What a nightmare. Yeah, I was owned.

i experienced the very same thing, cog in a large machine - only purpose of the cog is the betterment of the machine, sadly most others around would not question the situation and double down on being a better cog along with with increasing personal expenses to match the pay - no room for stepping out of line then, working round the clock to pay for latest model car, iphone, ipad, mac and expensive mortgage...
I left when wearing rainbow effects became mandatory and HR chuckled at my reasoning for not doing so - being a Christian deemed to be some unsavoury creature on par with German Nazis from 1939...

Had a taste of the "wage slavery" back in uni and realised so much of my time revolved around it, even weekends. It was all so wrong, but seeing everyone else doing it made the idea that surely there's something better seem off or ridiculous. I would study for 40-50hrs per week and eventually realised a 9-5 would provide the same feeling - depression, lack of fulfillment, such a dead end routine. I quit and never felt so free. I've learnt in the past year more than I ever did in school.
What do you do now? Curious cause I'm having the same realisation but dont know where to start!

Man you are so right about this I quit working for the system in 2011. I used to work 80 plus hours a week and made around 13k a month I was so tired of it when I found out my boss was charging the clients about 6x my hourly rate. I started to realize that everything was a scam or a lie thats what we are told is the American dream was no more than chains of slavery. College debt, mortgage debt, car loan debt, credit card debt. I was lucky I didnt have much debt i paid it all off and left the country went to thailand where my money would go much further. The funny thing was when I would meet other expats and share this slave idea they would get pissed and many of them didnt want to hang out anymore after bouncing around asia for a few years I finally ended up in the Philippines and now farm a few hundred hectars of sugar cane. Its only harvested once a year and I can live a free life as long as I keep up with the irrigation and fertilizer schedule and be there when its harvested and pick up the check from the sugar cane mill. I am getting bored though cause ive kinda run out of things i want to do after doing what i want to do for a decade so now im looking for something to take up some time.

i made the decision in 2011 that i would never work a "job" again, i gave up and leaned in entirely to whatever would be, i traveled around homeless for a short time and ended up living in the woods and farming. now i own my own market farm business. if it ever fails i will go hula hoop on the street/sidewalk anywhere and everywhere. it's a choice. you just have to make it. though i do contend with this that once children are in the picture the ability to just "follow your dreams" or quit working for just money may not be possible, i understand needing to do whatever you can to provide for your children.

Pushing 40 and have spent almost 20 years in design and marketing. Only recently have started thinking seriously about what my text 20 years will look like and what "success" might mean to me.
There are two very important things I am trying to focus on now:
#1. "Ikegai" which is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person a sense of purpose. Ikigai is what you get when you combine what you love (your passion), what the world needs (your mission), what you are good at (your vocation), and what you can get paid for (your profession). The vast majority of us spend most of our life only pursuing what we get paid for and what we are good at. Thus, we are unsatisfied.
#2. Prussian philosopher Willhelm Von Humbolt posited that it is in man's nature to enquire and to create.
"Whatever does not spring from a man’s free choice, or is only the result of instruction and guidance, does not enter into his very being, but remains alien to his true nature; he does not perform it with truly human energies, but merely with mechanical exactness."
👏 So happy to see this video. I'm always talking about the out of balance of cost of living and wages. They have enslaved us entirely. Not just through financials, but also through the food industry, etc. 100% with you on this. I've just graduated with my BAS in Entrepreneurship and have so many business and invention ideas that I'm working on bringing to life. Hopefully everyone can pull themselves out of the hole most are in, enslaved to the system.
I started my own e-commerce business last December. Before doing that I made 80k per year, had credit card debt I couldn’t seem to shake, lived well but wasn’t thriving. Each time I got a raise it was like the economy knew and figured some other way to hold me down. Since I started my own company I’m 100% debt free, I won’t say how much I’ve made, but I can tell you I don’t fear anymore. I see things differently. I feel capable. I can tell my boss to fuck off at my day job. I got a raise and a promotion I don’t care about. Some how I haven’t quit despite not needing the job anymore, but I can see the path to freedom.
This is so true Jeff. Being your own boss help us to understand who we really are because we are allowed to solve different problems, and we have the courages to be on our own. Even if it's not getting a lot of money at the beginning, it's still something worthy to do lifewise.

It's true! If I would have stayed within my means of working for other people based on my skillset, I would never be able to pay off my momma's mortgage. But taking the same skillset and figuring out where in the business world I could open up my own shop was the best thing I ever did. I don't like the use of the word slavery but some people through their mind create their own version via an employer or career they can not leave. Self learn and open your own shop folks, there are no more pensioner jobs. There is no more retirement to gift to your loved ones, there is only the ability to figure out your own market worth and start charging for it competitively. Your wage at your job is not competitive, an employee wage is literally bottom of the market.

The thing that has baffled me for my whole mature life is that so many people talk about how to get money and how to be creative and “successful”….when totally ignoring the fact that the amount of money demanded from us for the basics of life, is vastly more important.

I was a slave in a government job with all of it's idiot policies and office politics for 30 years. I'd been divorced and could not even afford to DREAM of owning a home. After I "retired", I started a little service business. It succeeded and after only two years I was able to afford a home. I wasn't making tons of money, but I do a hell of a lot better than working for someone else.
What I'm doing here is reacting to the title of this video. Most employers will pay employees just enough to keep their "heads above water". When YOU own the business, YOU control your paycheck. I learned much too late in life. BUT, I finally learned. It's a whole new feeling of self-respect.

I like all videos you published recently, as well as this one. The only thing I would improve here is to provide a kind of step-by-step example how some employers switched to entrepreneurs. Like did they work on the side for 1 hour everyday, or did they quit job to start or something else and kind of rate the risk and stress for those examples. It would be helpful because it would help people to have overview of the risk they would take, no matter their current situation

Here's a very simplified version of how I think of it. I learned the hard way.
1. Get a steady predictable income that meets your needs.
"Be your own dopamine dealer. Invest attention in yourself." Very coincidental how this video appeared, as I'm heading in this direction of entrepreneurship. Creators are the future.
I’m excited for this generation to start to break the conditioning. Shits about to get real here in the next 10 years and I don’t think many people are prepared to fend for themselves not just physically but mentally as well. Think about all the systems we rely on to be there when we have a problem. Now imagine no one answers the phone, there is no customer support, no hospital, no grocery store.
The internet will go away and we are going back to small communities supporting each other. Best thing to do is become a person of value that has something to bring so you can survive.
The raves are coming and they won’t be like us, but they will know how to survive better in such a world. Amazing times we’re living in.

I see it as you start a 9-5 that has the skill sets you want to develop. You put in your time get money back and sweat equity on your skills. Then you take the saved money and the skill sets and fly on your own.

Being a "wage slave" imo is a necessity to learning professional skills and understanding first hand the processes and ethics of businesses in the first place. I'm still a "slave" myself, but in a trade with a high skill ceiling that almost linearly increases pay while mastering the trade so my goal is to eventually do exactly as you say here. While it's true career options continue to increase as time goes on that most people find a 9-5 they genuinely find fulfilling, a lot of these careers are simply not paid the amount they should be which is leading to systemic failures within these poorly paid jobs. Many of which involve the general public's safety. It's this observation that makes me believe 90% of the global population is genuinely a slave to some system with varying levels of corruption. Including many business owners themselves as slaves to a system.

11:30 It's all about conscious choice imo. Like you said in the beginning of the video people will be triggered by the title. You're not a slave when you feel like you don't have to stay somewhere you don't like, that you can be flexible and move around and consciously choose and built the routine you enjoy. You can be a one-person business and be a slave or a 9-5 and be a slave. One thing that has been the greatest gift for me in this, is to be completely debt free that frees you up so much.

People don’t want to be “slaves” but they’re not willing to give up their addictions, entertainment and shiny material possessions. Can’t have your cake and eat it too. Breaking free from those worldly attachments is necessary to not be a “slave.” Personally, I’m debt free. I owe no person or institution a dime and I work a 9-5 with absolute happiness, where others I work with hate their lives… it’s not the job’s fault, it’s their own beliefs and actions that are to blame.
Also, my 9-5 needs me more than I need them. They know that and because of that mixed with my excellent work ethic, I take vacations often without repercussion and feel no fear of being fired for taking a day off for health, recreation or whatever else.

I've always wanted to be my own boss but I'm pretty lazy. I don't self-motivate well and I cap out at 40 hr/wk. There is a profound satisfaction in conquering your slice of the world, but I (at least currently) don't possess the workaholic nature that I find is necessary to succeed in entrepreneurship. It would be nice though...

I am stuck in an awkward middle where I dont quite want to be a slave, however I lack a single entrepreneurial bone in my body (even aptitude tests repeatedly score me extremely low on sales, marketing and people skills in general). I don't necessarily have a choice in the matter regardless of what I may want, unless there was a magical way of building a business without ever having to deal with another soul.

There are all kinds of slaves. Sometimes not only are you a slave to your job, but also to your family. Often it's your family that keeps you a slave. I feel like that with my family sometimes. They always have their hand out. If i dont work they don't eat or get the things they need.

I've been working on building a software product for almost 4 years now. It started slowly because when you have to divide your time between a full time job and socialising on the weekend, there's not a lot left over. Now I'm working on it every day and it's finally becoming something I think is really amazing. In the New Year I'll be able to shift gears into building an audience and sharing it.
I hope it will start picking up steam, but even if it never achieves anything, I've completely transformed myself. If I were to try another business, I'd be able to do it better and faster. Even though I don't have the results to show yet, the truth is I've completely levelled up across the board - not just with business but in exercise, nutrition, sleep, self-control, self-knowledge, skills, etc.

It’s been a struggle for me for almost 6 years, and I have slowly been figuring it out by eliminating distractions, getting rid of debt, forming better habits, and processes that give me more time to create an online business and be creative.

Our brains have been hijacked, by the trivial, in some cases and the world/life has become overly complicated and artificially sped up. Perhaps also to ask the question, - What is causing separation instead of community and provide the solutions, at least in part, through our creative endeavours.

I’m an entrepreneur and it stressful all the time, I was much less stressed when I worked for someone else. I have friends that tell me how great it is but they don’t go to sleep with issues and wake up with them. A lot of that has to do with being an employer and trying your best to improve team performance but always having one or two stragglers that fall short.
I didn’t know what I was getting into clearly, I wouldn’t go back on it but I just disagree that every person should be an entrepreneur… if successful it can be really good, if not it will implode your whole life. The title is perfect because this is all anyone hears these days but there is nothing wrong with getting in on a growing company and if you work with good people, treat it like your own and help grow then you should be rewarded for that along the way.
Gary V has a segment on this, “everyone” should not be an entrepreneur, there are great opportunities for people to be a 2-5 at a growing company.

Great video Dan. I'm a wage slave as a Software Engineer. The pay is good but I'm not feeling fulfilled. I'm currently on a fitness journey, I've lost 20 lbs and running my first half marathon in 2 weeks. I've been slowly building my personal app which helps me plan my meals, and provides daily macronutrient information so I can keep track of my goals. I was tired of constantly writing down and calculating recipes by hand, I hope it can help others too.

I currently feel like a wage slave. 4am-3pm. And doing the math on what I make for my time and energy, versus the revenue I directly help generate under sh!tty conditions really pisses me off. But I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, since I was very young. I’m mid-forties now and have a little money to do something with, but I’m starting from the ground floor.
Even having had a grandfather who was a financial advisor/VP at a prominent Boston company, I’m a newbie at investing. I’m also a long latent artist, intent on making that a profitable part of my life again, as it has been before. I’ve reached that point where a new chapter is due.
I have the same mindset and I quit the slavery in Dec, 2019. But it's amazing to observe that every slave I worked during my slavery period only wanna stay in touch with me to ensure that if anyhow I choose the same path and get back into slaves lifestyle because they won't digest how could I even survive without Job. The best thing I can do is to put all those slaves into blacklist of my phone after noticing they never change their mindset even if God offer them entrepreneurship😅

Thank you for getting it. The fundamental problem with our society that leads to "wage slavery" is still very bad even if you can "be your own boss." The fundamental problem is to say something like "If you don't have money, you don't deserve to live unless someone wants to pay you for something."
Whether or not someone wants to pay you for something is really not a function of how hard you work or are willing to work or anything reasonable, just the capricious judgments of people around you. We need to do much better than this.

I have been iterating on a lot of these ideas over the past year and after doing some freelancing I am now starting to build a business, and it can be very scary at times but that excitement is something I no longer feel working a regular job.
1) most small businesses fail within a few years
2) unless you’re a multimillionaire/billionaire already, you can lose literally everything overnight if you’re investing and the market turns sour
3) everyone can’t be an entrepreneur. That’s the ideology of a pyramid scheme. Realistically most people need to do the normal jobs that keep the world running and it’s more important to fight for rights and better conditions in those jobs
