    I finally visited the Bon Accord in Glasgow after watching Ralfy's vids for 4 years. Amazing whisky pub and I was looking around to see if Ralfy was there.

    It's all what I love in whisky, high prices and playing with the offer/demand, a chance of speculating etc etc... I won't get one bottle of it but at least 20. Cheers!

    I'm so excited about Rosebank being reopened by GlenGoyne...!!!
    And sir! Watching your reviews and learning from you is one of my favorite pastimes. I'd love to see a review on The Glenlivet Solera Vetted or Laphroaig Triple Wood...

    Out of the three closed distilleries being revived, Brora is the only one I'm interested in as the old distillery is mostly intact. Plus if prefer Brora to Port Ellen and Rosebank.

    Hi Ralfy! Id be interested in a re-review of Te Bheag Blend if you were to feel so inclined, Sir. You turned me on to it a few months back when I found your review from several years ago. Lo and behold i found a little liquor store by me that regularly has a stash and its a favorite of mine. Would be interested in whether you feel its as good as it was back when. Thank you as always for the best whisky reviews out there !
    Ahem...it occurs to me a bit late that perbaps this falls within the category of NAS.....my apologies.

      Impossible to get Laphroaig 10 CS in the UK without getting the ferry up to the distillery itself, and it pisses me right off. I've had to go IB for my CS age statement Froggy fix!

      I know right... at least you can reach the distillery hahhaha. From the Netherlands, where I live, I can only get a bottle via forums of whiskybase for a major price leap since the website sells out like hotcakes.

    Ralfy, when I hear about the resurrection of distilleries like Rosebank, Brora, Port Ellen, etc., I'm conflicted. Although offering new bottlings can reach a wider clientele, restarting these distilleries eliminates some mystique - what if Ferrari decided to build the Daytona again? If the owners stay true to the history, signature, and originality of the distillery, then fine. If not (and especially if they position their bottlings at a high price point, taking advantage of auction/secondary prices), then it's just a money grab. I'm a bit skeptical...

    Weren't the Rosebank stills stolen by metal thieves?

    • @ralfydotcom
      @ralfydotcom  6 років тому

      . . . no, that is an industry rumour.

    • @chriswitham8736
      @chriswitham8736 6 років тому

      I hope that you're right as the still size and shape is so important to the product. But this article states that the stills and washback were stolen:
      scotchwhisky.com/magazine/in-depth/16413/bringing-rosebank-back-to-life/

    • @ralfydotcom
      @ralfydotcom  6 років тому +1

      . . . Diageo had good security at Rosebank, cameras and locked gates e.t.c. that incident is shrouded in mystery as 'theft' was a good cover story for the stills being removed. The notion that thieves would spend hours cutting stills into removable pieces with oxyacetaline burners for 'scrap value' is bullshit. The retail scrap price of copper had just collapsed before the stills 'disappeared'. Theft would not have been profitable, . . . depending on the customer.

    Someone once said, "Ralfy is a good actor": too one of my comments.
    Until I watched this video and looked at the whiskey level in the glass and in the bottle, I wasn't sure why it was said" !!!
    Ralfy You are a GREAT act!! Along with a GREAT Source for whiskey quality.
    I had until this video believed you were a great boozer!!! with all the respect, that can be conjured by that description.
    I don't anymore!
    I believe - you are a great source of knowledge - and not an inspiration for drinking whiskey.
    You RALFY have earned my great respect. GOD Love You!!

    Ralfy, Seriously, how can you promote smell and taste when you are surrounded by increasing amounts of mould on the walls of your bothy? If it were in Calgary, I fear it would be condemned by health and safety.

    • @danielbrown9346
      @danielbrown9346 6 років тому +5

      From what I remember, bothies often have a lime based wash covering the walls. The purpose is to kill off any mold or mildew. So what may look like mold is probably actually oxidized limestone-based wash. If the area is damp, like the Isle of Man, it happens faster.

  • @ericschwab409
    @ericschwab409 6 років тому

    Ralfy, you need to join the modern world..... people don’t have a passion for what they do these days....everybody is just passing through. Nobody stays at one company for 30 years and retires. Kids these days are expected to change jobs every three to four years. You learn what you have to, then fluff your resume and move on. Fossils like you and I who stayed at one place forever aren’t appreciated nor wanted. This is a fast paced, what’s the next new thing, get out of my way world. People don’t have time to stop and smell the roses or Scotch. 😏😢.
    And THAT, my good SIr, is why this is a genuinely screwed up world.........show me the money and to hell with the rest of it.......sad!

      Great point good sir. I'm a farmer on another man's land, and I hope to own land myself one day. I'll stay put, you can bet your ar$e. God bless you for dedicating your years to one company. I hope they treat (or treated) you well. Also, I think you meant to say "stop and smell the Rosebank!"

    • @EFCasual
      @EFCasual 5 років тому

      I'd like to add, don't make assumptions. I'd have liked to stay at several jobs but been pushed out after 3 years, and I'm not the only one. Plenty of places have no interest in keeping anybody around and just push people until they leave.
