    Thank you so much for your videos! :)
    My fridge went out the same day our AC died too. I, female (let's just say older), got very desperate, so I started reading up online what might be wrong. I finally invested in a cheap electrical meter, and then followed the instructions in your videos.
    Since I had never touched stuff like that before, and really didn't know where to go to get a new relay I went with a manufacturer replacement part. The relay cost me $58, but a new fridge would have been 30 times that much, or more.
    The place I finally found, that sold replacement parts, has a no returns policy. Having heard the same clicking sound my fridge made in your video gave me the confidence that I went ahead and bought the expensive part ! :)
    Anyways, my fridge is again up and running :) And I didn't have to hire someone that would have charged me $39 for the diagnostic, and I didn't have to call the idiot back that tried to intimidate me over the phone, saying that I "better have someone come out to look at the fridge than to try putting parts in it", when I called to get information where I could find appliance parts in the area.
    Thank you so much!!! :)
    (Now I just need to find a cheap Bryant cooling coil for my AC ;) ).

      Eva Mills reading your comment made me happy. You Deserve a high five for having the gumption and willingness to learn new things and another high five for actually diagnosing and fixing the problem on your first try.

    Yup lighting does damage to older relays some are 55$ some are cents on a dollar but a very easy fix for sure.

  • @GoodairLLC
    @GoodairLLC 8 років тому +3

    That click is the overload relay opening up to prevent damage to the compresser.
    A easier way to fix this is to buy a 3n1 start relay. This will fix a bad start relay just make sure you buy the correct size.

      Get the original part, those 3 in 1's are not good long term.

    I hoped this was my problem that just needed a $5 part to spare me the $60 from getting a whole new water dispenser unit from a retail store, but I can hear it pumping new air in a motor like constant echo hum. Looking more into it, it now could be the whole compressor, and it was from a nestle water delivery/ dispenser rental company that just let us hang onto the non working one and dropped a replacement unit off, so I tried to salvage. Since it wasnt manufactured for retail I'm guessing the parts are all proprietary ordered to the company to maintenance, I'l probably just resell it as room temp/hot water dispenser only now.

    Is there any cooling in the fridge? I heard some clicks on mine and the freezer just doesn't get down to the correct temp but fridge is borderline fine.

  • @allangustafsson6791

    If the clicking noise is more frequent than in this video it could be the main circuit board.

    Could you please provide part numbers and where you ordered these replacement parts? I am not finding them on the web for the prices you've stated. Thanks great video.

      Yeah, I concur. The start relay (thermistor) for my LG fridge was at least $9 before shipping. A thermistor assembly which could be the next step to purchase (which also includes the relay) costs almost $90 for my fridge (LG LSC27931ST). Check Appliance Parts Pro for future parts.

    My Fridge works fine, but it takes some tries for the fridge to come on. It cools and freezes really well. It's a 16 yr old fridge.
    After a few tries it does come on, but not the first time.
    Any ideas what could be happening ?

    • @dpky7333

      Thats the problem I have. Im thinking that the compressor is drawing too many amps on start up so its tripping the overload fuse. Or, maybe the starter relay is going bad. What happened with yours? I dont want to wait until complete failure.

    I have a whirlpool 2003 which is not cooling. My start switch does not click when plugged in nor is my fan running. In your video you show the fan running with the bad start switch.
    I did take out the start switch and when shaking it it does rattle so I think the switch is bad. I checked the compressor and I have continuity on the three pins. So I am wondering if the fan is bad as well. What do you think

    • @moultriemanicmechani
      @moultriemanicmechani 8 років тому

      +Jan Gaudina I'm not sure what model you have but some fridges are wired so that the fan runs when the compressor is running, if the compressor never starts the fan may not come on, or you may have a bad thermostat in the fridge

    Did anybody see it running?, most likely the problem was excesive dirt around the coils and the very bottom of this fridge!

    Noticed my brand new mini fridge was making an disturbingly loud click every time the compressor would engage. I figured this wasnt normal for a brand new mini fridge. Took the relay unit off the compressor & noticed a rattling sound when ever I shake it. Does this mean I need to replace it? Trying to get a new one under the warranty.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp 3 роки тому

      No, it should not rattle. If it does, it's likely broken up inside. The part should be replaced. Just did this last night on my uncle's 2000 era Kenmore fridge (which was made by Amana for Sears). $46 for the PTC relay and it's up and running now.

    • @theatom7264
      @theatom7264 3 роки тому

      @@googleusergp Thats what I ended up replacing & it seems to work better now. First replacement they sent me was damaged likey during shipping so I had to get them to send another one. 2nd replacement worked though. So much cheaper & better than replacing the whole mini fridge. Its a heavy 4.4 cubic foot Daewoo classic so its a pain to move.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp 3 роки тому

      @@theatom7264 Yup, most times with a little time and checking, you can nail down the problem. So far so good on the one I repaired last night I'm told.

    You mention an "overload" part at the end of your video - what is this?

    • @itsTheKevL
      @itsTheKevL 5 років тому

      An overload is a part that goes on the line side of your compressor. It works like a circuit breaker. If the compressor starts working too hard, it will pull more amps and get hotter. The overload will cut power off until the compressor has a chance to cool down and then it will reset.

      saw the videos as someone who does private surveillance it sounds like there might be a hidden cam switching on when the fridge clicks on.. that's the only time I've heard that sound.
