If it makes any sense, this feels more ethereal than regal. The original song evokes feelings of remorse, yes, but it also feels grandiose, since Asgore IS the King of the Monsters. This one seems to play more into the mystical side of Undertale. It's easy to forget, but this IS a fantasy world with magic elements at play, and this cover reflects that AMAZINGLY.
honestly i can rlly see that! in my original few drafts of this cover i did kinda try to go for a more regal style with the instrumentation (i wanted to do some cool stuff with some makeshift “trumpets” and more regal sounding strings during the intense sections essentially), but i switched to other instruments, mostly cause i’m a little better at pulling off the ethereal style lmao (also cause attack/release issues with the aforementioned instruments made it hard for those instruments to fit in well with the rest of the cover’s soundscape, which kinda sucks but what’s done is done) i also did try to lean into the remorse stuff more heavily with the cover since that was what drew me to asgore’s character so much when i first played undertale, but i did have to scale back on a few elements (specifically, i had a cool idea for a more offbeat, intense drum pattern during the later bits of the section with toriel’s leitmotif for the E M O T I O N, but that idea sounded way better in my head than in practice lol) i’m glad that you enjoyed listening though!! there was so much stuff i wanted to do with this song since asgore specifically is really meaningful for me, so i’m happy that it’s still nice to listen to despite so many of my ideas for the cover ultimately falling through!
This is great! The dynamics between all the parts sound great! Also as a nerd of Tony’s music this sounds highly accurate to the original piece! Of course I doubt this uses the semitones like the original did. Great job!
there's a lot, so i'm just gonna dump the names of em as well as what they were used for here. pretty sure they can all be found either in default mobile garageband or in downloadable sound library packs, but unfortunately i don't remember which pack each synth comes from so srry! pixel dust (main lead/bass) decaying circuit (bass) starts with voice pad (chorus) fantasy echoes (supplementing lead/chorus/countermelody) day spa (chorus) hollywood strings (chorus/bass/minor flair) celestial voices (minor flair) treasure hunt (countermelody) boxy room pluck (countermelody) art duo (vocal inst, used right before the toriel leitmotif section goes to full intensity) cosmic boys choir (vocal inst, used right before the toriel leitmotif section goes to full intensity) pixel ep (countermelody) oak piano dream synth (just that one piano section before the end) i-95 chronicle piano (just that one piano section before the end) bluebird (drumset) scientific method (drumset) blue ridge (drumset) i hope this helped like at all lmao.
