Binondo, which is Chinatown in Manila, Philippines, is one of the best places to eat when you’re in Manila. You’ll find a good range of Chinese Filipino food, and overall, I was pleasantly surprised how friendly, clean, and nice it was. Binondo is also known to be the world’s oldest Chinatowns, and it really has some old style charm to it, and some delicious food to eat.
On this particular Manila Chinatown food tour, my wife Ying and I set off in the morning to just walk around and eat what we saw. I had done some research and wrote down some places to eat, but we were just going to go ourselves and get a feel for walking around and see if we could find any other food. About halfway through the day, we were filming, and we randomly bumped in Nathan who watches our videos. He not only is from Manila, but he’s also from Manila Chinatown, and he brought us around for the rest of this food tour - so big thank you to Nathan and his fiance!
Here are the place we ate on this Chinese Filipino food tour of Manila Chinatown (Binondo):
Dong Bei Dumplings - This restaurant is legendary in Chinatown Manila for their pork and chive dumplings - 150 PHP ($3.01). The dumplings seemed a little on the expensive side, but they were pretty awesomely delicious. It was a great way to start this Binondo food tour.
Estero Fast Food - Next, we stopped at a restaurant called Estero fast food, serving all sorts of Chinese Filipino street food. We ordered buttered chicken, fried frog legs, stuffed squid, and finally mixed vegetables. The food was all OK, nothing really stand out to me, and wasn’t a huge fan of the buttered chicken. Total price - 650 PHP ($13.05)
Ho-Land Hopia and Bakery - This is a legendary bakery in Manila’s Binondo, and they are especially known for their original mung bean pastry hopia. Hopia original - 48 PHP ($0.96)
New Po Heng Lumpia House - After meeting up with Nathan and his fiance, we headed first to go eat some lumpia. The lumpia was excellent, among the best fresh Chinese lumpia I’ve ever had. Lumpia - 60 PHP ($1.20)
Siopao - Nathan knew of this hole in the wall spot, and their siopao were delicious, so fluffy and packed with flavor. Price - 20 PHP ($0.40)
Serry Restaurant - Eating at Serry Restaurant in Binondo was the highlight of this Manila Chinatown food tour for me. We first had Soup Number Five (Soup #5), a notorious bull penis soup, and it was actually incredibly delicious. I loved it. Also, the black chicken soup was incredibly good, very herbal and very clean tasting. Total price - 280 PHP ($5.62)
899 Restaurant - Finally, to end this Chinatown tour, Nathan took us to one of his favorite restaurants in Binondo called 899, especially to eat pig intestines and braised tongue. The tongue was absolutely sensational, while both the big and small intestines were also delicious. Total price - 650 PHP ($13.05)
When you’re in Manila, walking around Binondo, Manila’s Chinatown, is one of the best things to do. You’ll find some great food, and it’s just a fun place to walk around and explore on foot. Thank you to Nathan for his help in this video!

Thank you for visiting Binondo, Mark! The wife and I enjoyed the day with you, Ying, baby Micah.
You were an awesome food tour guide man, good job. Do you speak Tagalog too?
LB Carl yes, born and raised in Manila.
Awesome, you speak 3 languages. Fukien, Tagalog and English. Next time I visit Manila, I'll try those restaurants.
Nathan, you are an excellent food guide! i wish i can locate all those places that you showed to Mark :)
If I ever run into Binondo, I'm gonna find you. haha
When he said the frog legs are very salty yet he is still smiling giving the comment. He gives so much respect to the food. Thumbs up.
strongly agree
You really lucked out finding a guy who was from the area, was a big foodie, AND was a fan of your UA-cam channel! Good job Nathan!
One of my favorites. Two genuine people met and then instant food chemistry. Often times we don’t talk to strangers. Nathan was so nice to offer his spare time while Mark was never afraid to trust him and let him lead the way. This a great reminder that we should be kind to one another. 💕😊
It's really great that Mark can bump into fans all over the world, who are happy to show him around their areas. This shows the dedicated fan base #Migrationology has around the world. Really enjoying the Manila series and its a great change from those tours where he had a fixed itinerary, spontaneous food tours is what Mark does best
i love how Mark's facial expression whenever he eats and chew each food :D Most especially the way he explained the dishes makes u smile :) He looks very sincere on how he enjoys the food!
This is my favorite Mark video. I love how the fan stopped to say hi and then showed Mark around. Such a great spontaneous moment!
The excitement across your face when sampling our local dishes is priceless . Thanks sharing your experiences and the inspiration to share our local dishes !
Oh wow!! All the food I remember and miss in Binondo, Hopia, Siopao, Soup #5, Buttered chicken, braised intestines and everything, really the best of Phil/Chinese Cuisine and you're lucky to have met a local to show you around !!
If Mark closes his eyes and tilts his head, that's an indication that the food is 10/10 delicious.
Jack Graybird the farther the head tilt the tastier too.
yah correctly his signature move
I agree to that.....😃
Jack Graybird that's his signature lol
Yes true
What I like most is how Mark describe the taste of food and its ingredients and he is very honest in giving comments, yet his remarkable facial expression gives joy us food lovers and the respect for food and culture is evident.Kudos Mark,me one of your avid fun! Best regards to Yeng and Baby Micah(he is still small in this video) Thank you for visiting Binondo😊
It's so nice to watch your videos mark. You're so humble and very respectful and I know it's your natural being and not just acting in front of camera. God bless you mark!
Manila was the last place I traveled before joining the army. Your videos bring back so many good memories. Thank you Mark!
Awesome to hear that!
Soup # 5 is also serving in different regions in the Phil. like Baguio & others :D, especially in cold places, I think its also serve as an aphrodisiac.
Dave Oh Good to heard thst
Nathan was speaking Hokkien at 19:05... I am glad you ran into Nathan and got to enjoy good food in Binondo.
@Odell Mateo No it's Hokkien, even though I am not a Hokkien speaker, it's great to see the language alive and spoken in different parts of the world!
Mark is a great guy and does such a good job with the food vlogging, I live in Northern Manila and it's hard to stay positive at times I love the way Mark always does.
This is the most amazing Binondo tour I have ever watched. Nathan was able to show Mark places that I've never been to. Excellent! More power Mark and Nathan! Mabuhay!☺️
I love how Mark can just grab a fan and enjoy some food with them as if he's known them for a long time. :) Such a good dude.

This has been your best Filipino food tour video so far! And Nathan was such a great guide, I doubt you'd ever find those hidden gems if it wasn't for him. Man, I sure hope I'd randomly bump into you too someday. :)

Hi Mark! I just love your facial expressions right after you've taken that first bite. You make me go hungry all the time. Thank you for having these videos so I can surely enjoy the food whenever I get the chance to try them myself.
Safe travels where ever you and your family travel to.
I've been to Binondo many times, the place & the food were all normal things of my day, but when Mark describe Binondo, it becomes different, it becomes nice. Good vlog! ..so good nathan to the rescue.
how nice is it to meet some random people then become friends all of a sudden..
Much love from Monterey Bay California
I've been to binondo a lot of times and I was expecting you will just go to usual spots, but you are very lucky to bump to that guy..
I’m amazed how you are willing to try different foods. I enjoyed watching.
I am so impressed that you both manage to create this series while traveling with such a young child. When my child was that young I stayed in my neighbourhood just because of the sheer logistics of how much you have to bring with you, and the constant feedings! Blessings to you and your family Mark. :)
Huge respect to Mark, Ying & Micah for braving the streets of Binondo.
Good job to the guide. Nothing like a good guide for better experiences.
I love watching you Mark, Ying and Micah exploring different food from different countries. I’m always looking forward on your new blog. I even replay other blogs that I already watched. It’s so entertaining and so nice watching it. I’m working night shift and your blogs keep me awake all the time. Food is life. Looking fireard for more blogs to watch. All the best😍
I respect the fact that you didn't like the dish entirely you were honest and polite about. People sometimes you say fact your yummy face, but I know your a good guy. Please continue to shine and be safe on your journey.

Thanks, Nathan for the tour. The Vlog is so much better when there's a local that helps out. I live in Manila all my life but I never been to the lumpia place. I always pass by the siopao place but never tried it. I'll make sure to go there for lunch today. Mark's reactions are always priceless. Enjoyed this video so much. Thanks Nathan and Mark.
Hi one question 🙋♀️ Filipinos add ? Salt 🧂 to the white rice ??? Or it is like Japanese rice just cooked with water
mark is the best man!!
What a surprising and adventurous vlog! I thoroughly enjoyed the spontaneous meeting with Nathan, a true fan, and how he became your guide as well as dining companion. The way you treated Nathan like a long time friend really showed how down to earth and humble you are.
I especially enjoy the vlogs with your friends or family; and now this one will be my favorite as well. And that it happened in the Philippines makes it all the more special :)
Jackie S Mark is truly an awesome guy. Had a great time hanging out with him the whole day.
For sure! Yeah I can tell you guys were having a great time. Thanks for being an awesome guide Nathan!
Great video! Yum! It's priceless watching your passionate expression when you sample different food. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah..double thumbs up..best food vlogger i watched
The Filipino Chinese is introducing you to Oriental exotic food that you have not shown in your shows before.
The Cleanliness of a cramp town is awesome.
And these Filipino Chinese seem to be more courteous than the rest of your Chinese tours.
Your Tour food guide looks sincere and down to earth kind of a cutie guy.
More!!! Mark Weins!
BTW your baby Micah so cuteee! want to bite that plump arms😊
That mark weins signature lean, i used to hate that but thats my indication if the food is real good..
Angeli Quilinderino I still hate it. But it is definitely a good indicator.

I’m from
Manila, Mark. Growing up our parents always bring us there to eat authentic Chinese food. Thanks for visiting my country.
Great Video Mark!!Chinatowns across the world have so much of history and offer stunning food!!
My travel hope is to randomly run into Mark sometime and go on an adventure!
Oh I wish you were able to go to MaMonLuk restaurant. The siopao there is the best in Manila. It is said the owner also introduced the chicken soup dish which bears his name to the Philippines.
One of the better foodie videos that I've watched. It shows exactly the local colors of the place and the vivid description of the food he is tasting brings out the curious mind of one who is watching. What's next, what's next.
I miss my days in the Philippines I love Chinese foods thanks Mark for sharing this videos!
Seriously Mark!..... I truly love that you are dining in my own culture it warms my heart to see someone such as yourself give our City, people, and Heritage a platform..... you never (and I mean NEVER).....see this culture showcased as it is often overseen many times. You will see more Chinese Taiwanese Singaporean and Vietnamese food just as often as the next American food Channel........BUT TO BE PERFRCTLY. HONESTLY....you will never see the Filipino food CULTURE showcased by an American ( it makes me almost think that they're disgusted with our foods.... yet you will see many other Asian culture showcase by Americans)...... it make me feel that our food is an extinct BREED.......and it's SAD!!!
THANK YOU for embracing my culture....... it allows our beautiful food to have a public platform as it should be!!!
As you continue your travels in the filipino culture you will genuinely notice it is a true Melting Pot of EVERY culture ( Chinese Vietnamese Singaporean Thai , Mexican and we should not forget American)....... that's what I love about our food it truly expresses who Filipino people are and about....... A culture that truly Embraces every other culture and we do it so effortlessly and seamlessly to create some of the best dishes the world has ever tasted..... from the bottom of my heart thank you for taking MY culture, MY food and MY City to the next level!
too bad I didn't have the chance to escort you. nelson from binondo. nice one Nathan!
I love Mark when he's eating.it's as if you can taste what he's eating...avid follower here from the Philippines..👏
Thanks Mark your foodie words makes my mouth watery the way you express every bite on food you featured..
