On this Cambodian street food tour of Phnom Penh, I’ll be taking you along to Phnom Penh’s Central Market (Psar Thmei), and a landmark in the center of the city. The market itself is not too impressive in my opinion unless you’re looking for jewelry or overpriced clothes, but the street food court and market on the outside is where you want to be.
There’s an abundance of Cambodian Khmer food and Vietnamese food available at the food court of Central Market, and there’s so much to choose from that it can be challenging to decide where to eat. The colorful selection of herbs and vegetables lead me to the bun rieu noodle stall, a Vietnamese crab noodle dish. We first enjoyed a delicious bowl of bun rieu with all the herbs and chilies we wanted. Bun rieu - 7,000 KHR ($1.70)
On the edge of the market you’ll find some huge grilled squid, and it’s incredibly tempting. I thought it was a little expensive (possibly overcharged), but nevertheless, it was amazingly delicious. Giant grilled squid - $8 USD
Next up you’ll see lots of fruit shake vendors at Central Market in Phnom Penh, I had a durian avocado, and it was amazingly delicious. Durian avocado shake - 6,000 KHR ($1.46)
Cambodian oysters as they are known, but really some type of cockle are a common Cambodian street food in Phnom Penh. They are sun dried and they are actually quite tasty. Clams - 4,000 KHR ($0.97)
Yee-ay Sok Sor - sach ko ang jakak (grilled lemongrass skewers), this place was amazing for their Cambodian grilled lemongrass marinated meat skewers in baguettes. Total price - 36,500 KHR ($8.87)
Dried buffalo (sach krobei) - We had a little miscommunication and ended up ordering quite a bit of dried buffalo. The good news is that it was incredible delicious, and so we were happy to have that much! Price - 55,000 KHR ($13.37) for ½ kg.
Our final stop on this Cambodian street food tour of Phnom Penh, we walked around towards the Old Market, and bumped into a grilling meat stall that was too good to pass up. It wasn’t planned, but today turned into a Cambodian grilled meat marathon. Total meat price - 27,000 KHR ($6.56), Soursop fruit shake - 4,000 KHR ($0.97).
Cambodian has amazing street food, and Phnom Penh is a truly exciting city to eat in!

I've sort of figured out Mark's rating system: A). The nod = it's edible (but not good). B). The nod + smile = it's edible. C). The double nod + smile + "Mmm" = It's okay/average. D). The double nod + smile + "Ohh! Ya!" = above average. E). The head tilt & nod + big smile + "Ohh! Ya!" = good. F). The pause + big-big smile + double head tilt & nod + "Ohh! Ya!" + enthused description (including the word 'seriously' ) = excellent.
G Fleming woah!! that makes sense
G Fleming
and when he shift his head towards right like a douchebag
is amazing and tasteful.
Lol
G Fleming i need to screen shot this
Yep, that's Mark. You nailed it!. LOL!
Laos and Cambodia are very underrated countries. Nice to see them get recognition
Cambodia yes. Laos has lovely people but can be a snoozefest unless you have a winning personality and a fist full of dollars
I'm Vietnamese and I'd never come to visit Combodia yet
But after I saw this video , I'm sure Cambodians they take care of cleaness and hygieness of foods than Vietnamese people.
I truely appreciated that factor.
Channtha Youm no Vietnamese is good people
I like vietnamese street food too. especially banh tranh.
@@movieupdate782 bánh canh😊
@@movieupdate782 banh trang I luv it
I like when Joel is with Mark! He seems very calm and joyful. Nice energy.
I agree I love the vlogs with them eating together
Cambodian’s are very sweet and down to earth people. Also, if you ever get a chance stop and listen to their history of hardships, you will be shocked and surprised. I mean, these people has been through pure hell and back. Much Love and RESPECT.
Countess Maria Love i am cambodian i want to tell you that not every cambodian some are really bad and if you listen some history of cambodia some of them you will know something worse that happen when in cambodia with thai and vietnam.
Srey Mom .......OMG! Really?.... Is there any documentaries on Cambodian, perhaps on UA-cam, or? I would like to learn more about these beautiful people. Thank You!
@@simplymoonchild3908 Two words: Khmer Rouge, look it up.
BossaliniFiveO ......Will do, thank you.
If you are good , be good enough to make me respect u, but if u r stupid , be stupid enough to make me pity you.

I have cancer so I do eat much I started watching him and just watching mark has helped me eat more, and I think Joel is his double ❤️
PS I won’t eat more then the food he has eaten however I give him trumps up👍
i wish you'll be better soon, my all wishes of health for you and everyone else in the world
Poor u
God bless you! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
When you have cancer it's better to fast than to eat.
Misan7hrope where, pray tell did you get that bit of bullshit wisdom? Food is fuel, nourishment and essential to health. I had an aggressive form of breast cancer when I was only 27 so I’m well aware of the hardships associated with the disease. Your advice is not only irresponsible, it’s downright cruel. Well, you do call yourself a misanthrope so I’m not all together surprised.
Im Cambodian. You did a wonderful job documenting our cuisine. Its so accurate, its perfect and genuine.
my sister met u at Phnom Penh airport...
she said you and Ying are so friendly. our family are your fan. anyway welcome to Phnom Penh. hope you had a great day here.
Nita
Thank you very much Nita, say hello to your sister and family for me!
Mark doesn't have a clue who you are so no point even bringing this up.
Mark Wiens we can't wait to see your next video explored in Phnom Penh. Thank for your reply!
ZeliardFTW my sis and mark have been in the same from Bangkok to Phnom Penh throw air Asia sir. Just wanted to say welcome to him to my own country.
Angiii Your intelligence may be low and I also wonder why You are at his Channel?
I think Marks heart belongs in Cambodia and southeast Asia in general. The way he tilts his head longer than usual, his expression on his face when he takes the first bite and the way he describes the food, you can tell he's way more passionate and appreciative than anywhere else in the world.
richard seymore , LOL ... indeed agreed!!!!
A great video, I live now for 10 years with a Cambodian woman in Switzerland, every evening when I come home from work she cooks for me fine Cambodian food .. I love it more than the swiss food ..
Khmer food
The Cambodian food has more complex flavour
Went travelling round south east Asia loved every country.
The food in Cambodia was amazing, especially the sea food
Eating chicken and beer while watching huge signature smile from Mark
Perfect way to finish my day.
Thank you for visiting our country and promoting our street food!
I LOVE all your UA-cam food tour with all the different countries. I feel like I'm there traveling,
learning and experiencing those countries as well. If I never get to go to those countries, I've seen first hand, what they are like.
Thank you marvelous Marc. Love your family as well.
Nothing but the BEST for you!!!
God bless you!!
I lived in Phnom Penh before. Some lovely people there and yummy food! Thank you so much for this video!
You know what Mark, I made a quite a rude statement a couple years ago about the face you make each time you eat something truly spectacular, I realised I've never apologised for it, so I sincerely apologies. I'm still with you all these years later still actively watching your videos and I love seeing how happy this makes you. Perhaps I was envious back then.. I hope you and the family are well. Keep up the awesome work, the quality certainly has gotten much better :) Thanks!
boski hey buddy Mark is a truly food eater with passion. I'm glad you keep watching his videos. we all tend to judge.
Hey Boki, no worries at all, thank you very much for your kindness and support!
And mark always replays to comments or messages
It's awesome of you to apologize all this time later.
boski that's probably because he's lightened up now lol
Mark, your enthusiasm and passion for travel, food and culture is to be admired. Please continue to share your experiences - incredibly entertaining!
Thank you for coming my country Cambodia People is So friendly❤Thank you❤🇰🇭💕
Yes very friendly except of some tuktuk-drivers around Sihanouk ville and the people at bluedog guesthouse Phnom Penh. Also can not recommend the food at night market, just terrible 🤮
@SH MUZIK I think there are more stupid western tourists than bad people in Cambodia. I think I just went to the wrong place in your country and it was a mistake not to go with a local guide.
As soon as I will be able to come back to South East Asia I promise I will visit Cambodia again. Will give a comment then and maybe we can meet up 4 a Cambodian Lager or so😉 best regards from Europe
Thank you for coming to Cambodian we love to watch your video my sister family’s 🙏
Came to: watch 1 minute of the grilled calamari..

Mark is the food expert and amazing traveler. Just few days, he can find all best local foods to eat. His stomach is extra- ordinary😊 his reaction is priceless😱, his knowledge about food is excellent ❤️
Mark has such a wonderful family. His wife has the most amazing smile.. Really like his videos full of fun and his narration is so good to the ears..Great entertainment by Mark and his friends..
Thank you very much for visiting our country to review our street foods. you are very welcome back any time soon. hope you enjoy our foods.
Thanks for introduced Cambodia to the world 🌎 ❤️
Moniroth Chan 😀😀 Jungkook of *BTS*
I was there this year 2018 and I didn't like it so much because they rarely take their own currency but only ask for US dollar. It end up getting pretty expensive for us staying there. Yes some street vendors takes their own currency too but 80-90% want dollars. Thailand have the best foods at affordable/cheap price
Tous Shong it not that terrible as u said u can also ask them to discount like street food u also can ask for discount (except mall or supermarket)
Even guess u can ask for discount but some hotel hard to ask anyway I think Thai and Cambodia is same cuz I visited Thai a lot
I'm Cambodia btw
Mark, I Love watching your Blogs. And Especially with an Joel, Ying and Micah. I look forward to newest Blog all the time ❤️
Thank you Mark for bringing your friend with you, Ying and your son. Nice to see all of you enjoying yourself.
Mark is a cool dude and a professional. Much better and interesting than other food vagabonds on the net ! CHEERS !
He is the most respectful foodie. All other Westerners do not even talk to the locals or get to know the history. Mark is by far the best. I think he's half Asian so maybe that's why he's able to treat Asians more humanely.
💯💯💯💯💯
I love his enthusiasm
I love when your friend is in your videos, it really adds to the whole vibe,.
I’m really really miss Cambodia.when I saw ur video. Thank u for visit my country.

street food in america is mcdonalds, burger king, jack in the box. its' filled with chemicals, toxins and full of harmful things made in a laboratory. i wish we had a food culture like Asia does.

@Mark Wiens - If you're ever at that stall again on 2:23, ask for the (BA BAW - SAM CHOK) which is Rice Porridge with Pork Organs. THE BEST of THE BEST! I use to eat there every morning!
Thank you for the tour, able to see the food, people and culture
I am very glad that you enjoyed street in Cambodia. Love to see more videos
Love the video. Reminded me of our trip to Cambodia and visiting similar small rural villages and open food markets. The freshness of the fruits and other produce is incomparable!
I need to go back to visit the motherland. I'm happy to be Khmer
Full marks to this market stall and the lady who runs it...the table top and the containers holding the various ingredients looks spotlessly clean. The food also looks first class. Good to see this.
He's my favorite guest! He loves Micah so much! 💕
Mark is always the happiest guy in the room :)
💯💯💯💯💯
The squids looks so delicious. That’s my meal.
💯🌶️🔥😋
one of my favorite grilled squid delicious, shout out my friend
papaya salad was known here in the philippines as atchara commonly served as side dishes or an appetizer special when you eat roasted pig ( lechon) and that dried buffalo meat we called it TAPA it is usually served with garlic rice and sunny side up egg
Omg I finally found someone like me! Someone who really likes eating
and love traveling for food. Oh wow I subscribed!
I just love to see his expressions soooo cute❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your experience in traveling different parts of the world tasting different dishes....👍
Hi Mark! I have followed you for years and I have been to Southeast Asia 5 times taking your advice a number of times... I can't wait to go back! Keep the videos coming.
Thanks you 🙏🥰
Street Food is really the best! 🤓 I'd choose that any day over a 5 star restaurant.
LifewithAnnaBee i prefer to buy food in market
LifewithAnnaBee where are you from?
LifewithAnnaBee good
LifewithAnnaBee hi sis
LifewithAnnaBee 5 star till I dine.

I want to try that food in the first time video 😭😭
defenetly my favorite taste. sweet sour and spicy ❤❤
Mark I hope you visit Cambodia again. I would love to see more places in Cambodia.
Thank you so much for visiting our country Cambodia❤️🙏
Hi Mark I was in cambodia in april this year. You should try Tonle Bassac 11 buffet restaurant in Phnom Pehn. All you can eat crabs , oxysters, peking duck, char sui ,bbq squid, durian mangoe sticky rice etc etc. Will blow your mind away.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I second that recommendation! I had my engagement party here ☺️ stay away from that "special meat" though 🤢
john chua, Tonle Bassac is my favourite restaurant in Cambodia! Better than any buffet here where I'm living (in the west).
john chua wow thank u
Cool! I never expect that Cambodia also have that kind of clams as their popular snack/street foos. It is also very popular in my hometown in Kelantan, Malaysia. We call it as 'etak', not many people in other part of Malaysia know this. So, it is quite interesting that we share the same kind of food :)
I love watching Marks Vides it makes me want to try New Recipes 🤗🤗🤗
Love all your videos! Your smile always brightens my day!
Hi guys, im from Cambodia🇰🇭 I always support your video👌
My favorite is the num pang or Cambodian hoagie. Man, I want the recipe. I do love the kabob's aromatic flavors especially the essence of lemongrass infused with galanga, tumeric and then charred over the grill. I feel like I got to make some num pang in the summer time or when it gets warm here.
I like it when he takes Joel,Ying and Micah. I enjoy the videos with Joel.
i really enjoy watching your vids but this one was awesome.
Hi Mark, I really preferred your Day 1, Day 2 sequence of videos starting with the Flight. The Vlog style videos give more context to the whole thing.
I agree or better yet include the Part 2 link below the video
