I remember when the show was just beginning with less than 10K or so subscribers, sonny was in the Philippines and what made me stick to watching is his unbelievable sense of humour lmfao. I knew he'd make it big and here we are! It really is the best ever food review show hands down. Thank you for showing us the culinary gems of the world.
Same !!! My first time here this is just a small fun channel ! I love sonny ! With him since then !
Same! I am a subscriber when he was still starting. Like a couple of thousand subs! But look at the channel now. Its so big!
Same Sonny went to my province too ARGAO CEBU and tried to drink TUBA hahaha
I followed him when he had 4 or 5k followers before. I saw his video first in Facebook showing Filipino Street Foods up until now. Sonny really hooked me up with his humor with his videos. He's an amazing Guy.
Same here. Istareted watching his videos and subscribed to his channel when it only has 2-3k subscribers.
I knew the channel is going to be very successful. Now he has 2 successful channel.
The Department of Tourism should give Sonny recognition for having a great job at promoting Philippines food for all tourists to enjoy.
How did you know that was 9o%🤭🤭🤭
When i graduated i will get a petition😚😆
Is there a DATA showing that views are global or just amongst Pinoys, amongst these Foreign Vloggers?
@@Natasha-to1mh it'll be interesting to see a Data, Algorithm.

Thank you for visiting my country. We are deeply honored by you doing this (and not just once). It is bittersweet for me watching this cuz I’m stuck here in the Bay Area. I miss home. Your channel makes me happy!

Welcome back! Sunny It was years back the last time you started vlogging in the Philippines and there you are again, i am so damn sure you feel the loved of Filipino people and the culture this is why you decided return.
I love the part when describing pata ham, you say "Taiwan is a sovereign nation!" Now we so love you even more here in Taiwan!! 😍❤️🇹🇼
And he won't be going to China any time soon😂
I mean it's only the correct thing to do. In the modern world suddenly Russia and China believe that communism succession = take a smaller nation by force... so Yeah SOVERIGNTY 4 ALL

Glad you came back near in Philippines. You can visit Philippines and explore Albay province for a lot of food you haven't covered like pinangat, kinunot (shark or stingray menu), pili delicacy, dinuguan bikol version, Nicol express with coconut milk and many more.
My gosh pinangat super yummy hard to find
Hey, Sonny, good to have you back. Might I suggest that you try the food of the province of Pampanga? They have quite a variety of food, including exotic ones. As always, keep up the great content.

in my country (i'm from Indonesia btw) we also have the similar Lumpia at 2:10 called "Lumpia Basah" means wet lumpia but the inside usually bamboo shoot with eggs and bean sprouts, the sauce is also similar but applied inside the lumpia not as a dipping sauce. It's good.
We also say Basa for wet hehe
@@j.lucido9536 south east asian bros
In Taiwan, we also have similar version of Lumpia adding bean sprouts.
In the Philippines we have different varieties of Lumpia.... lumpiang sariwa ( fresh ubud) ; fried lumpia or lumpiang shanghai ( either pork or fish); lumpiang toge ( mix of bean sprouts , baguio beans and carrots).
Fried lumpia is quite rare in Taiwan. In recent days we even have peanut ice cream lumpia for dessert.
IDK why but i'm kinda in tears knowing that you're back in the PH. You are one of the first foreign UA-camrs who grew to love Philippine and SEA food that i really made an effort to watch. Seeing you come back and trying stuff again brings back nostalgic feels when i first stumbled upon your channel. Thanks for coming back sir Sonny! hope you do a bunch of collabs with Erwan and other Filipino Food youtubers like Ninong Ry and many more

Glad to have you back in PH Sonny. Its somehow sad that its hard to shoot with our more remote provinces but the food is at its most fresh there. Your review is very honest and amazingly always on point. Hope you can go back to country again in the future.

Lately I’m able to see sonny coming from a mile away, I wonder why. In the videos long time ago, he just spawned into the video through thin air and totally not behind something! It was crazy. Jokes aside, Sonny keep up the great videos and content!! Your humor is forever lovable and entertaining hahaha
As someone with a ton of food intolerances and allergies- the amount of vicarious enjoyment I get in seeing him chow down on stuff that would kill me is strangely high

"Adobo" is also the name of a cooking style in my home country in Peru and is similar. i believe that the coincidence of the names here am Philipinas is because we both were colony from Spain so we have inherited this way of cooking.
yes, its actually derived from the spanish word adobar which means to marinate
Not really. It's a generic name. It just means "marinade" and thus could apply to any marinated dish. The method we call "adobo" in the Philippines uses completely native ingredients and is pre-colonial in origin - black pepper, vineger, salt/soy sauce, garlic, and malabar laurel. It's very different from Spanish or Latin American adobo. Only the name is Spanish. There are numerous other examples of these, I'll enumerate some:
1. We call roast whole pig by the Spanish name "Lechon", even though roast whole pigs are a pre-colonial dish, and are cooked completely differently from how it's cooked in Spain/Latin America, with the use of ingredients like lemongrass or batuan fruits. Pigs are one of the ancestral domesticated animals of the Austronesian ancestors of Filipinos.
2. "Sopas", a Filipino dish whose name comes from Spanish for "soups." Despite the name, it actually originates from the American chicken macaroni soup.
3. "Arroz caldo", which in Spanish means "rice broth", but it is actually the Filipino version of the Chinese congee.
4. "Turron", which despite the name is actually a dessert lumpia with bananas, jackfruit, covered in caramelized sugar.
5. "Asado", which in Spain and Latin America means barbecues or grilled meat, but in the Philippines, it means a type of slow-cooked braised dish with a sweet sauce.
Just because something has a Spanish name, doesn't mean it is of Spanish origin. We spoke Spanish, therefore we gave Spanish names to local dishes as well. Especially since in pre-colonial Filipino culture, we did not name specific dishes. Instead we named cooking _methods,_ regardless of ingredients. It was easier to just use a Spanish name when dishes became more and more standardized. Even though today, "adobo" can still be used to cook anything from chicken to pork to goat to vegetables to squid to smoked fish.
We do have dishes that are of Spanish/Latin American origin. Some of them modified over the centuries. Like "champorado" which is sweet rice gruel with chocolate in the Philippines, but a drink with chocolate and corn flour in Mexico. Or the various types of chorizos/longanizas that we have. Or more common dishes like hams, paella, escabeche, empanada, and baked goods or pastries like churros, bunuelos, barquillos, various types of cookies, breads, and cakes, etc.
@@AngryKittens Very interesting your comments. I see, there are some dishes native from Philippines but with Spanish names, nevertheless, there are others that are directly of spanish origin. I am very impressed about the escabeche you mention, because we prepare it too, nevertheless, we have another dish which is similar only that it has a thick broath, that is called "sudado" and means "sweaty".
@@rmv2185 Your ceviche is very similar to our kinilaw (literally means "eaten raw"). Though ours is pre-colonial in origin (citruses are native to Southeast Asia), and is present in neighboring related Austronesian cultures, like the Malaysian Hinava, the Chamorro Kelaguen, the Polynesian 'Ota 'Ika, etc.
@@AngryKittens Thank God someone says this. I just roll my eyes whenever some wanna-be westernern Filipino would claim these dishes as hispanic, or that we ourselves are hispanic. If we are going to claim foreign blood, then I am afraid we aside from being austronesian, our bigger gene contributor are the Chinese. The Spanish hardly contributed anything to our gene pool

The triangular dumpling at 8:20 is a traditional Chinese food. Legend has it that an incorruptible official named Qu Yuan, got slandered and committed suicide in a river.
When they heard of Qu Yuan's death, the locals were sad and rowed out on the river to search for his body. They were unable to find him. To preserve his body, the locals paddled their boats up and down the river, hitting the water with their paddles and beating drums to scare evil spirits away. They threw lumps of rice (the triangular shaped dumplings) into the river to feed the fish, so that they would not eat Qu Yuan's body.
Thus, these dumplings are still being made today to commemorate the festival.
