    Great vid. I'm always looking for new filming angles and your vids are great inspiration(I love ghosting the cars) . Loved top Point of view around the chair legs. I have a new respect for the Ma020 especailly since I got the old ve Pro. The chassis is actually pretty good and the body choices make it cool. Ps thanks for the mention.

    the throttle on both the ma010~ma020 is very linear and smooth like all other brushed miniz's ......the ma030 on the other hand is brushless and is literally missing 0~20% throttle right out of the box, since it is brushless the start up is very abrupt, throttle curve and punch is tuneable through the kyosho ics software but requires an additional ics adapter with costs alot. ma030 is totally different beast.

    Hi there, Ii really enjoyed your explanation. I have bigger crawler vehicles and after seeing your video I got really excited about getting a mini z MA030EVO to play indoors and eventually race just for the fun of it. Also what got me excited was learning that you also use a Flysky NB4 like me.
    I have a few questions just to get me started:
    1- What receiver do I need to purchase to use my Flysky NB4?
    2- What body is the one you have? The white one with lights. Are the lights included in the body?
    3- What wheels and tires would recommend for drifting? Are wheels and tires purchased together or are they sold seperatly?
    4- Can I use Panasonic envelop pro AA or would you recommend any other brand?
    Can't wait to start playing.
    Thanks for sharing

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  3 роки тому +3

      1) The receiver is 82151-03, Flysky Noble Mini-Z EVO Receiver
      2) The body is a 2008 WRX, and lights are not included for this body and had to be diyed(This body does not come with LED holes)
      3) Personally I like using DS Racing tires, they offer a nice range, LF1-LF5 going from grippier to slippery, depending on your surface. Wheels and tires are separately bought normally as the tires can fit all wheels, while different wheels can come in different offsets, which depending on the body you use, may have different fitment.
      4) Standard AAA Eneloops actually work quite well, I personally never used the pros but I'd imagine they may give a slight better punch on power, but may not last as long. Generally lower mah batteries will produce more power for shorter bursts, while higher will give longer runtime. I'm using both Kyosho Speedhouse 800hv and orion 900hv batteries.

    Great movie. You have discussed the topic professionally. I'm starting my adventure with the MINI-Z. For starters, I bought the MA-020 AWD (Yesterday I bought a GIRO. I'll try for the first time today..) Because a 1:10 scale drift is difficult to do in winter. I came up with the idea of building a track and buying a second MINI-Z. And here I am struggling with the idea of buying an EVO..... What modifications do you consider necessary for MINI-Z ? Best Regards from Poland

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  2 роки тому

      Particularly for drifting, handling wise, differentials make the most difference, everything else is pretty much just fine tuning and not needed at all. You could also get a better motor if you really want extra power.
      For running on the rcp racetrack it'll be a different story.

    • @szerlok007
      @szerlok007 2 роки тому +1

      @@Auranapse I want to know these different stories :) I'll go towards the drift => MA-02AWD. And the second way => racetrack =>EVO. I don't know whether to choose EVO AWD or RWD? It seems to me that the EVO AWD will be more universal (I mean drift/racetrack). I don't understand why RWD can't drift. On a scale of 1:10, the RWD with the engine behind the rear axle is the basis of success.

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  2 роки тому

      @@szerlok007 The Mini Z RWD doesn't have enough steering lock and is not modifiable to even reach a driftable state, if you want a RWD drifter for Mini Z scale that uses Mini Z bodies, should look into the Atomic DRZ2 or GL Racing GLD(there are others too).
      Generally in terms of for the track, it depends on your local club on what they allow you to run per racing class. The standard MA020 AWD can do track too, but the stock brushed motor may not be as fast as the MA030EVO with the brushless motor, and may both qualify for different racing classes. Many clubs follow the PN Racing superstock rules(Can google it).

      The same thing has happened to two of my radios. I thought I had to buy a new radio at first but I opened it up and realized that it was an easy fix. Most likely, one side of the spring that attaches the steering wheel to the radio chassis broke. When you shake your radio, do you hear something jittering inside? That's the loose spring. Open of the receiver and take note on how the spring is attached. Take it out and you should see that the broken side has a missing loop. Take the top 'one layer' of spring and bend it perpendicular. Now that's your new loop. Attach it back to its original place in the radio and you are good to go! Good luck.

      Actually it seems like it’s not even needed at all, maybe it provides some structural rigidity but running it on RCP haven’t shown any problems. I’m guessing it could be there just to prevent you from accidentally touching the motor as it does get much hotter than on the MA020 because it’s covered up inside the car.

      The MA020 does not support ICS. Only ASF version of MA020 can use ICS. Are you sure they have issues reversing? Because by default, after accelerating, reversing on the controller will trigger the brake instead, and you will wait and trigger the reverse on the controller again to reverse.

      It's the older MA020 cars that come with the KT18 controller are running the ASF boards(first generation MA020). I actually never had my MA020 break on me, so I'm not sure why both of yours failed the exact same way.

    • @tomwright943
      @tomwright943 4 роки тому +1

      I'm not really sure if it is fhs or fhss to be honest...... I do have 1 more KT19 remote for my MR03 I may try to bind that to the MA020 just to rule out the remote being broken........ 🤔 I'm wondering if perhaps there is a way of resetting the chassis side of things? what could have burned the fets out? I am a very careful driver and don't really crash that often, the problems occurred with the first one after around 2 years, then I got the second (thinking the first may have been a dud from the factory) but then with roughly 2 years of running the second one, it had developed the reverse delay problem...... it's not that either car won't reverse, the car just takes alot of time to decide what it will do, I've seen it take roughly 3 to 4 minutes of holding the trigger in the reverse position to decide that it wants to reverse, I would hate to think that I couldn't fix them because as you know yourself, the mini z is very addictive 😎👌

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  4 роки тому

      @@tomwright943 Hmm actually I'm not 100% sure what it could be then. Since you can reverse, it may not be the FETs after all. Maybe check if the throttle is properly trimmed to the center? There are many other options out there if you are more experienced or are willing to jump into open RC electronics, like 1/10 scale, where you have to choose all the electronics yourself.

    With that said, I forgot to mention that the Mini Z FWD cars are using the same chassis as the MA030EVO, and you can convert it to AWD with some additional parts, which is much cheaper than the MA030EVO. Even so, the chassis itself has some downsides to fitting certain bodies, so it's really up to you if you have the bodies you want to run it with.
    Also, this video only references Mini Z cars. Personally I do not own any GL Racing or much other brands to be able to mention them.
    I suggest checking out Beaver's Hobby ua-cam.com/users/oOBeaverzOo
    or Garage RC ua-cam.com/channels/9AZYij-Tr9JtmhRKmtRSNg.html
    for the other Micro cars.

    EDIT:
    Flysky has since released a module that allows the Noble NB4 to connect to FHSS Mini Z cars, including the current generation MA020, MR03, 4x4.
    Part number RM005.

      I think the FWD is actually the best bang for your buck because you get three cars in one: fwd, awd, awd drift. Converting it to awd is relatively cheap (if you use third party parts for the bearings and swing shafts). Because of the front motor mount, it makes the fwd much more capable. I don't drift (yet), but I would think an awd FWD would drift/rally better because there is less weight at the back, so you can break rear traction easier, just like the Tamiya XV-01.
      I run my FWD with 10degree tires front and rear and drive on tiles at home and I can semi-rally around corners, which is really fun (the front tires wear out so fast you have to rotate them with the rear ones after a while). The downside, as you said, is the bodies, but I don't have much preference. Besides, the FWD bodies look gorgeous as they are. It seems like Kyosho haven't updated any Readysets in 2 years.
      Have you ever experienced traction roll with the MA030EVO on grip tires? I ran my FWD once on an RCP track with 30 degree tires and experienced tons of traction roll. I actually think the MA020 has lower center of gravity but the left / right weight is unbalanced because of the battery placement. The FWD and MA030EVO are very well-balanced except for the higher center of gravity.

      @@Diamondbac Yea traction rolling does happen but after truing my tires there weren't any issues. Actually I believe that the MA030 chassis has lower CG if you use nimh batteries, the story changes if you use 2s2p aaa li-ions or 2 li-ions with 2 blank batteries. Also the FWD chassis is identical to the MA030EVO one, main difference is the board, so the weight balance is almost the same.

      @@GarageMiniRCUK I really enjoy watching your videos too, it was what made my got the MA030EVO in the first place. And indeed, the MA020 is a better chassis than most give it credit for. I'm guessing because of the limited body options of the MA030, they kept the MA020 as the main AWD line for the ready set cars(AE86 and MA030 won't go together). It's a great chassis and I actually tend to run my MA020 more often as it's actually much quieter too.

      Nope, I don't really recommend using one, as it's not super difficult to pick up drifting without a gyro on AWD cars. If you aren't able to pick up drifting then I guess it could help, but it does cause the car to understeer sometimes as the gyro will always try to straighten the car.

    Bro, from your perpective, if i came from ma020(front one way, cs mod) is it worth it or is it significantly different to upgrade to ma030evo, for drifting only. Thanks before.

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  4 роки тому +3

      Nah, I say it's better to pass. The experience isn't so game changing that you would want to spend more than the MA020 just to get a slightly better car that you may or may not find better. Especially since you already have the MA020.
      If you want another drifter however, I would highly recommend looking into a RWD drifter instead, as those are a completely different experience and very fun. And there's a reason to have both AWD and RWD drifters individually for different strengths, like the Atomic DRZ, XRX DPA, HGD1 etc.
      Unless you do have someone to play with, a MA030EVO as a 2nd car to run together with would be pretty fun.
