I think something that maybe be a bit confusing me in the video is that it's my understanding on the MA020 you have to swap the pinion gear whenever you lengthen the chassis. I just got an Initial D readyset kit with the RX7 FC3(?) which is 90mm and wanted to be able to put on the blue suburu Impreza body (not wrc) ASC which is 98mm. Unfortunately the hobby shop I went to was no sufficiently knowledgeable and told me it would fit using the parts included in the readyset kit. As you mentioned 90mm can only be extended to 94mm per the manual but I was recommended a set of extension blocks and a DWS gear as a cheaper solution to get to 98mm compared to buying the whole DWS rear end like you mention. Hoping this works but haven't gotten the parts in yet.
Hey PJ, no worries I understand where your coming from & I can help. So the stock ma-020 chassis only has mounting brackets for the 90mm-94mm wheel base, to reach 98mm you will need this extension bracket: rc.kyosho.com/en/mdw205.html This is the cheapest option since you can keep using your current rear end. If you want to upgrade to the DWS, I highly recommend it, but they cost about $70.00 so they aren’t cheep. As far as the spur gear, yes you will need to buy a set separately but luckily they are cheep. PJ Green lol yeah right after I posted my reply, I realized we were saying the same thing 😂 well I guess that confirms it if nothing else lol The DWS is great, it’s a much smooth transfer of energy through the whole system. PJ Green start with just the locked diff, the front one way is not for everyone. I have a stock front differential in my 020 & a one way on my 030 & they are two different cars.
@@BMR3 do you think the locking the rear differential is helpful and worth it for casual drifting on smooth hard floors? Great info! Thank you. My question is this.. I have the AWD model (new Supra) and its great. I want to also look at getting a Ferrari or McLaren body for it as well. I know I need the extension kit and new spur to get to 98mm. But, do I need to use only bodies that say "narrow" on them, or can I still use ones that say wide?
You can use wide or narrow bodies, all you have to do is purchase the wide conversion kit, it will come with the Diff cover & bottom plate but you might need to buy the long swing arms separate. I’m not 100% on the swing arms so double check the conversion kit when you get it.
Assuming you’re talking about the 020, the RTR kit comes with all the parts you need. All you do is unscrew the rear end, change the spur gear to the longer style & reinstall the rear end using the rear most mounting holes. It’s very straight forward and simple.
@@BMR3 i mean i want to keep the 90mm wheelbase but want to use a body that is stock on a 94mm wheelbase. Do i need to make changes or simply put it on?
Hey bmr i was wondering if it would be possible to fit a lm body on a ma020 chassis with extention kit of sort i have a awd wide front 98mm challenger and would like other option of body for a awd race build Do you think the the hood and roof portion would fit the chassis itself ? I dont mind having to cut the fender a little bit but would like to know if the chassis is too high or is that not an issue ?
@@BMR3 ahhhhhh thx@!!! So autoscale bodies come with the proper offset wheels and front nose clip? So do some bodies require wide front and also large offset ?
94mm for your Subaru. The packaging that the autoscale comes with will list the wheel base. If you bought it as a ready to run set that paperwork might be left out.
@@anotherstar8125 yep, that’s correct. Wheel offset is more to make the body’s look flush with the rims but you have to be careful that you don’t push the wheel offset out too much since the tires can rub on the body/fenders. Also, larger wheel offset = larger scrub radius so that’s why there is a narrow & a wide chassis to help reduce scrub radius on wide body’s. Hope this helps.
Could I ask, I'm looking at a few cars in the range. They are all listed as MA020. Does this mean they are all identical fitting wise? Does the KT531P serial number they all have anything to do with their compatibility too? There's mo mention to whether they are narrow or wide bodied. Thanks
Hi, I m new in both Kyosho and rc. A long descriptions for car shell as "For MR-03 Narrow RM For MR-015RM" toyota 86, can this fit on my stock AWD Honda civic type r 020 chassis without modification? Thanks
Is it the same situation with the ma030 compared to the ma020 that, one would need a very rare extension to make it work with a 102mm? Do you know if anyone has tried to remake them yet? I’ll have to do some further research, if plastic is just needed, I know a proficient 3D printer guy, and if metal or CF is needed I know a CNC and a lazer cutter guy.
You you will need a special extension regardless of the ma model to get out to 102mm, as well as a matching spur gear. Search around and you will find some 3d version you can order. They work just fine from what I’ve seen. No need to go full overkill with laser cutting, but that would be dope.
Switch to the wide front end, extend the wheel base to 98mm & purchase the corresponding offset rims in AWD. You will also need a set of wide swing arms for the front end.
I bought the wrc celica rtr kit its a MA020-N. Could you tell me what body's can fit on that I looked up some but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. If it isn't obvious this is my first mini z looking for a indoor winter hobby. Thank you
I'm sure you're asked this question a lot but I'm looking to get in the mini z the all-wheel drive version. I had a rear wheel drive a couple years back and didn't care for it. Is the 020 the only all wheel drive chassis besides the evo.l version? I can get a decent deal on a brand new all-wheel drive Nissan Cal Sonic version of the 020 is this a good starting point or do I need to go with something else? I will go brushless eventually this chassis except brushless motors?
There is a brushed version of the ma-030 AWD as well, you just convert a FWD chassis to AWD by adding a center drive shaft. This is the cheapest way to get a AWD since the FWD chassis is not popular & can be found on sale for around $130ish. Regarding the brushless setups, you can convert a ma-020 to brushless but you have to swap the whole board & it cost around $90 for the board alone. Then you have to buy the brushless motor separate so it gets expensive to convert a 020. But I would say go for that Nissan if it’s a decent deal. The ma-020 is the perfect place to start with this hobby, & you can always convert it to brushless later.
@@BMR3 thank you for answering both my questions. I asked one on another video as well kind of the same question. I can get the zero to zero brand new in the box for 169. They look like they move okay with the brushed motor. I know the hobby cost a little money I used to race this scale so I'm well aware LOL. Mini z doesn't even come close and price. So what you're saying is basically by a front wheel drive model and converting over? What makes the front wheel drive better than the 0-20 is it easier to go brushless sorry for all the questions but with my rear-wheel drive mini z I used to have I bought all the wrong stuff part of the reason I got out of the hobby
Hi I’m kinda confused I’m making my 94mm awd to a 98 with the blocks to fit the hellcat body do I need anything other than the spur gear and the blocks? Since mine is narrow and the hellcat is wide does that matter?
Ok so yes you will need the blocks & spur gear to extend the rear end to 98mm. Since the hellcat has a wide front you will need to purchase the wide front conversion kit (top & bottom differential plates & long swing arms). I’m not sure if the hellcat comes with AWD rims so you might have to buy the corresponding rims.

Sorry man, I saw this comment the other day but forgot to respond. The R34 & R35 should fit without issue, I believe they are both 94mm wheel bases. Yes wheel offset is a major consideration for choosing a body. As a general rule of thumb, you can’t use higher off sets since it will cause the wheels to hit the body, you can use a lower wheel off set but it will look funny. When possible it’s best to use the matching offset for a given body.
That’s a special/limited edition GL Racing Audi R8 with the golden Bape livery. They are discontinued now but you can occasionally find them on EBay. If your serious I would be willing to part with mine for $100

The MA-030 Evo is not compatible with the DWS in the 94mm configuration, it has to be set to 98MM. If you want to run a 94MM MA-030 Evo then you will need to put the stock rear end back on. Hi, long story short. When i first found out mini-z awd, i really want that Subaru Rally WRC 2008, and because everywhere is out of stock, i ended up buying Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Metallic Blue. However, recently i managed to get brand new the Subaru WRC 2008 autoscale body. It came with the rims (rear wheels are wider than my Mitsubishi Lancer). My question is, if we look at this chart: kyosho.com/mini-z-info/products/auto-scale-collection-for-mini-z-awd/ The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Metallic (MZP439MB) rear wheel offset said R:1 (N) but the Subaru's MZP429WR is R: 0 (W). What is that means? Do i need to buy any new parts for the rear systems? So far i just swap the body (perfectly fit) but not the wheels yet because i haven't bought the drifting tyres to fit the Subaru's rims. I also need your help to buy the correct size for the Subaru tyres. Thank you so much for your help.
Heey, You probably don't need to buy any additional parts. the offset is in the wheels it self. it has to do with the distance that the rims sit from the chassis. since all bodies have different dimentions. some wheels sit further from the chassis then others. to make them go flush with the body, but mainly so the wheels don't rub against the body. If you have the rims that come with the body the offset should always be matching. The R stands for rear tire, the F stands for the front tires. the number is the amount of offset the rims have so in this case 1mm for the rear tire off the lancer, and 0mm on the subaru. The N and W stand for narrow(8.5mm) and wide(11mm) tires. if you're buying tires for the new car/rims make sure you get a pair of narrow ones for the front, and wide for the rear. most street bodies use narrow rear tires like the lancer. if you prefer having narrow rims in on the back in the future. then you should look for a narrow rim with 2.5mm offset. to compensate for the width of the rim(8.5mm N tire + 2.5mm ofset in the rim = 11 mm R: 0 W tire/rim) this is the math behind it. but in practice it can still be a bit off sometimes, so don't pin me down on it. If you look for Drifthobby channel, he rencently uploaded a video where he did a S13 body swap. and you can see excactly why you need the correct offset rims. and how it looks and what happends if you don't. I hope this helps out with finding what you need.
Thank you for the kind words! The beauty of the ma-020 is it can fit 99% of bodies on the market so it really comes down to personal preference. However, since you have a Supra chassis its already configured to 94mm so you probably know what ill recommend 😛 SKYLINE R32 BABY!!! but only if you like that style 😉 there are tons of options in 94mm
Yeah the ma-020 bodies will fit but you need to be mindful of the wheel bases & sometimes the style of rear motor mount as the rear shock can hit the roofline of some shells.
I’m looking at the awd chasis kit for the MR03EVO, it says online wheel base is either 94 or 98 mm, would it being the all wheel drive affect which bodies I can get?
Yes I’m talking about the MA030EVO, sorry for the miscommunication there, but that’s the one I’m talking about, so would I still be looking for ma-020 bodies?

The DWS is great, it’s a much smooth transfer of energy through the whole system. The stock rear winds are ok, but the DWS is leaps & bounds better (if you are having stocking issues)
I want to get mini-z with a separate ae86 body, which chassis and/or car to get?
Ma-020, ma-030 won’t work at 90mm (AE86 length) & MR-03 are RWD
Thanks for making this video. I’m somehow still confused if i can use a 94mm body on a 90mm wheelbase without extending the wheelbase?
Assuming you’re talking about the 020, the RTR kit comes with all the parts you need. All you do is unscrew the rear end, change the spur gear to the longer style & reinstall the rear end using the rear most mounting holes.
It’s very straight forward and simple.
@@BMR3 i mean i want to keep the 90mm wheelbase but want to use a body that is stock on a 94mm wheelbase. Do i need to make changes or simply put it on?

Hey bmr i was wondering if it would be possible to fit a lm body on a ma020 chassis with extention kit of sort i have a awd wide front 98mm challenger and would like other option of body for a awd race build

I dont mind having to cut the fender a little bit but would like to know if the chassis is too high or is that not an issue ?
How about if you have a LM 102 and want to go down to 98 can you ?? And will it still work in a box stock class ??
Wow! So am I hearing correctly the wide body W in some model names refers only to the front end? The rear end stays narrow?
Yep, rear ended is adjusted by rim size (narrow or wide) & then offset can further push the rear wheels out.
@@BMR3 ahhhhhh thx@!!! So autoscale bodies come with the proper offset wheels and front nose clip? So do some bodies require wide front and also large offset ?

How can I tell what wheelbase I'm starting off with? I have the MA-020 Subaru Impreza WRC 2008... all I know is on the box it says narrow and long.
94mm for your Subaru. The packaging that the autoscale comes with will list the wheel base. If you bought it as a ready to run set that paperwork might be left out.
@@BMR3 thanks. And just to be clear, each wheelbase also has wide and narrow options?… and to top it off offset for tuning?
Thanks

Is there a way to get the MR-03 to fit the MA020 Toyota SPRINTER TRUENO AE86 body?

I have the r34 awd body and want to fit the corvette Zr1 rwd body . What would I have to do to make the switch?

My question is, if we look at this chart:
kyosho.com/mini-z-info/products/auto-scale-collection-for-mini-z-awd/
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Metallic (MZP439MB) rear wheel offset said R:1 (N) but the Subaru's MZP429WR is R: 0 (W).
The N and W stand for narrow(8.5mm) and wide(11mm) tires. if you're buying tires for the new car/rims make sure you get a pair of narrow ones for the front, and wide for the rear. most street bodies use narrow rear tires like the lancer. if you prefer having narrow rims in on the back in the future. then you should look for a narrow rim with 2.5mm offset. to compensate for the
width of the rim(8.5mm N tire + 2.5mm ofset in the rim = 11 mm R: 0 W tire/rim)
this is the math behind it. but in practice it can still be a bit off sometimes, so don't pin me down on it.
If you look for Drifthobby channel, he rencently uploaded a video where he did a S13 body swap. and you can see excactly why you need the correct offset rims. and how it looks and what happends if you don't.
I hope this helps out with finding what you need.
