Michael Davis! In the early days of the Internet I stumbled on his email address, and cold-wrote him saying how much I enjoyed his performances on Saturday Night Live and on his cable comedy special. He wrote back, saying thanks!
I had the unexpected joy of winning tickets to a comedy event and Michael Davis was the middle comic. He stole the show. Just unbelievable and one of my favorite nights in any theater.
I've been seeing Michael Davis all over UA-cam this year, but I only ever knew him from Letterman. I imagine he is what would have become of Charles Grodin if he had been a juggler.
As a juggler myself, it's always fascinating that the "tricks" that are not very difficult at all, are some of the most impressive to an audience. (Unless that audience is filled with jugglers at the IJA festival.) Anyway, juggling blades. Those are usually not actually sharp, and even if they are, the handles are weighted to make them easy to spin in a uniform fashion. If you can juggle clubs, you can juggle those blades. I learned to juggle through an exhibitional college gymnastics group. A basic 3 ball pattern took a couple hours to get smooth. From there, clubs took about a week to get smooth, and odd objects (such as blades) took a couple days. And i'm a very average juggler, at best. So, yes, most people can learn to juggle those blades in less than 2 weeks from having never juggled anything in their life.
I’m a reasonably good juggler (seven balls, five clubs, six rings), have taught and performed for twenty-five years and the best advice I’ve ever been given was ‘the tricks are not a show. The show is what happens between the tricks.’ Michael Davis is amongst the all-time great juggling performers, maybe even the best of them all, and it’s not more than 5% about his juggling. Go check out his Ford’s Theatre show for Ronald and Nancy Reagan. It’s about as flawless, and screamingly funny, as anything I’ve ever seen. AND he always worked clean! Amazing.

As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I said aloud MICHAEL DAVIS! I remember him from SNL.
Hell, I remember Harry Anderson from SNL; prior to NIGHT COURT.
Always loved this act.
I enjoyed seeing Michael Davis perform on SNL and other places. He was always entertaining. Thanks for posting this!
Just what I needed this morning. Thanks, Dave.
Outstanding performer!
I would have loved to watch this guy’s whole performance live.
I loved seeing him perform. He would do sets at the Comedy Store. Hey and Dave did too!
A juggling comedian!? You never see anyone like that on TV anymore. Way to go, Dave!
This is pure intelligent comedy with skill! Dead Pan Snark at is finest!!!!

Interesting comedian. His laconic demeanor gave off vibes of both Steven Wright & Joel Hodgson. I’d like to see more of his act.
I never knew Michael Davis did panel before performing. Dave must've liked him.
OMG. I had forgotten about Mr Davis. Always a highlight when he'd be on the show Back In The Day™
One of the funniest men of all time.

I can see why he was invited to perform for the president multiple times. Ronald Regan would have been fascinated by this.
America needs a Letterman 10 year retirement anniversary show in 2025. National security depends on it!
And the fan is Barbara Gaines??
Can you guys bring back Staff Favorite Moments?
"And the man said to God, 'will you give me a penny?'"
Yuk Yuks comedy clubs were a staple of the 1980s!
Requested by "B. Gaines". Hmm...🤔
I love her You Tube show with her "daughter."
Who was the critic whom he was referring to?
At least he's better at juggling than he is answering questions
8:27 that would make it looser... he hit it from the wrong end...
Graham fenwick jones please
