  • In this video I show you how I troubleshoot and replace a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on a 2003 Nissan Altima. This vehicle idled poorly and eventually had a P1102 check engine light. Although I used a more expensive scope in this video, there are cheaper alternatives that can be used like a DSO Nano or similar product from AES Wave.
    The exact vehicle in this video is a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S four cylinder with automatic transmission.

    I am a technical trainer for a truck repair company and I wanted to say that you did an excellent job of explaining the test procedures for this sensor. I have a couple of questions.
    How do you feel about the Autel scan tool vs Snapon's?
    I have the Modis Ultra which includes a two channel scope. Do you prefer to have your scope separate from your scan tool?
    Thanks

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the comment! Snap-On makes great scan tools and you can't go wrong with one but the Autel is much cheaper and I think can hold its own. I work on a lot of Hondas and the Autel replicates the Honda HDS pretty well which is why I prefer it. I do like having a scope separate from my scan tool so I can see both at same time.

    I have the same vehicle and I ran all the tests for each wire, but when I rev the rpm up to 2500 and 3000, it never gets past 1.97 volts. Should it not get to 2.5 volts at 2500 - 3000 rpm? Should I change it to a new one?

    Not sure if you could provide some advice on this but I figure I'd try: I have a 2011 Altima that has had its Check Engine Light on for some time now. The code is the p0101 code. So I've had the mass air flow sensor replaced five months ago, but the light is still on. I have the ECM reflashed and after a week it came back on. Finally, it turns out my car was part of a recall for getting the ECM upgraded. My mechanic took it to the dealer, got the upgrade, and the light had been off for the past month until yesterday where the light is now back on. Any advice or answers???
    I've read things online about cleaning the throttle body and that took care of it or checking the hoses for leaks. Could it be a problem like that? Or is the computer really in need to constant reprogramming? I will say that when I drive the car the car drives fine but I have noticed that since the dealer upgraded the computer a month ago, the RPMs upon acceleration is pretty even at 1000. But when the Check Engine Light is on, when I accelerate the RPMs go higher now before the CVT kicks in.

    How do u get it out of the mode where it won’t pass 3 rpm

    I have a 2003 as well. I’ve been having issues with my car slipping out of gear going neutral while I’m driving and idle up to 3500 rpm and then it will pop back in gear sometimes and start back riding,then sometimes it won’t.. I have to pull over and cut it off and sit for about 2 minutes or so then it starts driving. What do u think it could be? It was reading spend sensor codes so I bought 2 of those and it was saying idle sensor too high so I bout the throttle because the sensor didn’t come separate,come to find it out I didn’t need that because the car is still doing the same thing. I have spent about $500 in sensors and nothing is helping.I was told the transmission was going out and then I heard it wasn’t because spite all of that,it switches out like it supposed to when it’s acting right.

    Did he have to unplug the battery before installing the new one? I saw another video that the mechanic said take off the negative wire to battery so u dont pop the sensor when u plug the new one in. I need to do mine because of a prolonged start after time. At least 3/4 seconds before if fires up. And some times stalls out when starting. Any advice?

      No need to disconnect battery, just have to make sure the key is off.

    anyone know the exact size to security bit ?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  6 років тому

      If you are referring to the Torx security bit size for this vehicle, 6:17 in video, TS25.

      Thank you very much … I bought a little cheap set (harbor freight ) and seems the inside hole isn't big enough .. Ill buy a higher quality one... Great Video !! Wish you had an buick enclave .. We'd be best pals ..lol

    • @dznuttzonyachin7499
      @dznuttzonyachin7499 6 років тому

      T25 Security doesnt fit on mine. I went to several parts stores and nobody had the bit to take mine off. I noticed that on mine i only have 5 star with the security piece in the center. And the t25 bits have a 6 star with security. WHat i had to do was use a small pair of vice to loosen and get the bolts out. So just beware before you buy a set to check if you have 5 star or 6 star. Also if you have one like the video which is t25 and you go buy a cheap set at Autozone, or harbor freight be sure to look at the bits in the package. Most i have found are very cheaply made and the security holes on the bits are not centered. So even if you did get the right bit it still might not fit due to poor quality of the bit made.

    How many gs should I. see at idle for a versa 2018 . I have 1.7to 1.9 GS @ idle

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  3 роки тому

      For those Versas, it can very from .8 - 4.0 g/s at idle (warmed up engine), just depends on the location you are at. Good chance those readings are ok.

    Why my Nissan won’t start after I replaced it?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 років тому

      Did the car start before replacing it? A bad sensor can sometimes cause it to not start, these Nissans do not have the best backup strategies if the sensor has failed and sometimes aftermarket sensors do not work well.
