Hey Scotty folks, just my perspective:
Scotty= Pro Wrestling. Great storyline, entertaining, would absolutely hurt an amateur like me to step in the ring, it has it's place. He is fun to watch.
Matt= MMA. It's 100% real with no scripts. Gonna cripple an amateur like me to try to go in too fast. This channel has everything from early workouts to live sparring to coach you from beginner to competitor in servicing your own cars to beyond.
Scotty will keep you entertained, Matt will put you to work with purpose.
I like them both.
hahahaha. good analogy!!!
Scott 's good 🎉
I have an Autel 906BT. It was my first big boy scan tool and I loved it. The lack of topology and the layout of graphing didn’t justify updating because of the affordability of the Topdon Plus. I’m not super happy with the Topdon. So when I just now learned that you’re working directly with Autel, I can 100% say I’m going to pay the extra bucks for the MS909. The fact that Autel has you providing education and guidance, says that they’re absolutely committed to top quality and customer satisfaction. Thanks again Matt. You’re the gift that keeps on giving! Also, for anyone reading this, pay the few bucks a month for the SBQM paid channel. Worth soooo much more than what you pay for 👍🏼
Great review!! Thanks!!
Hats off Matt. You are the best DIY mechanic i have ever seen. I have been in the field since last 5yrs
Thank you so much!! Good luck on your career- sounds like you are off to a good start!
Mat you are fantastic! Please please please do more of these Autel videos!
Dude I just wanna say thank u so much for showing the capabilities of this amazing scan tool. I had no idea u could diagnose on this level. It’s inspired me to get one for my own mobile shop as I am on my own journey of not just being a parts changer but a real diagnostician mechanic. Thanks again this video is going to my favorites for sure
Awesome!!!! Glad to hear!!
Thanks, I love your video. I use a smaller mp808 but alot of the same applies. I figured working in my own one man shop I needed the functions rather than break the bank on one tool. Hantek scope, uscope, Amazon smoke machine, I feel it's better to start small and master basic functions rather than being overwhelmed with advanced functions. Upgrade one at a time as needed but you are absolutely right that you have to be 100% and not having any gaps in your diagnostic tool kit.
The whiteboard is a personal favorite, keep up the great work sharing knowledge!
Thanks!! Will do more whiteboards for sure!!
VERY SMART MEN I MET TODAY ON UA-cam
Super helpful . So much information packed into the lessons !! You are a great coach !
Glad you enjoyed it!!
It's been a couple months but, the universal stuff has been the most helpful. Understanding is key bro.
Excellent work
Relatively new subbie from South Africa here. Love your work as it's like forced induction to my little small powered engine.
Great way of compressing the whole info into a more pinpoint accurate format. Hope you make more of such content as sometimes there isn't much time to watch the full video because of time in the workplace.
Hi guys, I'd like to share my experience. I've gmc 6v engine and there's a code "o2 sensor positive current control circuit high" by the way it's a wideband o2 sensor. I used Matt's rational and scientific approach rather than changing parts. In the scan tool i saw bank 1 is in a closed loop but bank 2 isn't that means the wideband o2 sensor in bank 2 is not functioning and to prove that bank 2 fuel trims both short and long one is 0 whatever you do. To double check more, I've checked the wideband o2 sensor resistance it was around 3 ohms. I said now I can change the sensor.
Thanks to Matt.
This is one complete lesson on how to use a diagnostic scanner. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for all your videos Matt! Your the man. I am spreading your name around as much as I can.
I appreciate that!
I didn't know, thanks Matt .. I will back probe the signal wire, with a sewing needle held by vice grips, and see if there is voltage changing every second from 0.1 volt to 0.8 volts, and make sure it isn't getting to 1 volt or over.
Thank you for educational videos...
Live far away from USA 🇺🇸
It's about me 🇰🇿
I also think scotty Kilmer is just entertaining not really providing educational for a would be mechanic.
Appreciate so much this channel and other that really focus on passing on the knowledge to the community.
Thank you!! Yeah the trick with Scotty is he is popular NOT because he teaches people anything, but rather he validates people’s ignorance about cars because he is no better than they already are.
In other words his popularity is because every hack in the garage can watch a “50-year professional” and say to himself “yep, I’m as good as anyone out there because I already do things like that guy does”.
If Scotty were to suddenly start doing a voltage drop test on a starter circuit as opposed to just changing the battery, starter and relay on a guess, trust me his viewership would tank…. To lower than what mine is lol.
Great video full of information. Thanks for taking your time and post it up.
I subbed. Your teaching is great! I’ve learned a lot of information from you even back years ago on your explanation of ST and LT fuel trims, Thank you for what you do for the automotive community
Welcome aboard and thank you for the compliment!
I find your vids to be very fascinating/ interesting. I like how you approach things but I also think it’s from many yrs of your knowledge on cars. Last, I find myself to be weird, just because I enjoy videos like these and not able to send them to my friends due to not liking turning wrenches or solving electrical. I find myself fixing everything and trying to learn more and when I mean more.. I see videos like these & are awesome. Btw you would make a great teacher, I liked the first video on how you explained the fuel trims..
Thank you so much for your feedback glad you enjoy the channel!
I like the way you explain it. You explain it so anyone could understand! Matt, I do like these videos, and I am considering joining your premium channel! I’m a long time subscriber of yours!
I know you are Robert! You will love the premium channel I absolutely 100% guarantee it. It will be the best $3 you ever spent.
What a ton of information I'm so appreciative of all the knowledge that you share to all of us thank you very much,,!!!
You are so welcome!! This is one of my favorite videos on the channel for sure!
I and many other people happen to like scotty! Please don"t knock him! I respect the both of you! Thank You!
Always love the videos, been watching since i believe 2018.
Thanks for your support.

I am happy too- and happy you found it!! Thanks for watching.
Dude this guy is a genius
Hahaha thanks but it’s just the result of thousands of hours of study.
Am proud of you Matt

Super the best! Thank you so so much, the most important to understand how the logic of decisions work!
Thank you!!
Thanks, Matt, very helpful videos. Love you from Saudi Arabia.
Incredible amount of information here
Thank you very much for the professional videos, it definitely enriches the knowledge
You're very welcome!
Awesome video as always by the great Matt!
Absolutely awesome video! Thank you so, so much. N/W Scotland.
Scotland!! I don’t have too many viewers from there!!
Mate your a legend if this is the issue on mine i suspect it isbas i have had the gearbox out im praying anyway can not communicate with the abdls/dsc module
We just purchased the 909 EV Scan tool
The very last comment that you made is gospel to me. Every time I change a coil, I ALWAYS change the plug.
absolutely true. If you have a coil that failed odds are plug or wires are responsible. And ANYTIME you replace a PCM you damn well better find what caused it to fail or it will definitely happen again!!
Awesome video's, Thank you for all the effort to produce the content, i think as a reward i shall send you a 'Cat', ( not the 1 fitted on car's), but a small 'Kitten' 😺 to give authenticity to the sound track at the start of each of these video's 🙂
Worth watching several times
Thanks- these are pretty good cases!!
Matt this is just for accufix I don’t think Autel will make you take it down it’s been a while now. A lot of us sent in videos. I know this is old but They have some very big changes coming soon. More to follow in regards to keys immo and service data.
this is the best channel on youtube
I agree lol!!
@@SchrodingersBox i didnt even realize i commented this on two different videos, im having a real epiphany and am addicted to the scientific meth od
Hahaha I noticed lol.
Data Driven Diagnostics!!! Great stuff Matt!
Thanks again for the test light!!!!
I am so so happy I found you
Me too!! Enjoy the channel!
great short clips matt thanks
They are fun aren’t they!!
great commentary and explanation I thank you along with my son who thinks your channel has a cool name
very good i enjoy seeing it and learning
You are in the right place!!!
GOOD WORK THINKS
First video I have watched of yours. Good content! Surprised by you not using an Autel MP408 scope to tie in with the Autel theme.
They didn’t provide me one or I would have !!!!
@@SchrodingersBox seems like poor marketing on their part!
Great compilation!
Thanks. This is one of my favorite videos on the channel.
thanks for posting!
FYI. somethinI noticed working on my Infiniti and Nissan. They actually have a small test port on the front of the connector under the terminal.
I like the artwork
Thank you sir 🫡
Thanks for sharing.
First speed sensor signal with wrong speedometer: could be a very simple electrolytic capacitor that failed. I had this problem with my old Corolla from 94. In other words: it could be that the ecm ecu is ok
Do you mess with diesel engines I'm a diesel technician myself I love your videos you where smart doing this for fun work on vehicles everyday you can get burned out
I do not. I only ever once tried to work on a diesel and I totally got off right at the beginning when I saw the MAP sensor showed atmospheric at idle and I of course thought it was a huge vacuum leak lol !!!!!
I just did a fuel injection pump in a 15.8 liter Detroit the peak pressure is over 80,000 psi for the fuel pressure they have Torque to yield fuel lines on them diesel engines are awesome
I like Scotty's videos
I like comedy too.
Go scotty. Trump/Gabbard 2024
Thank you ❤
I have been a follower for a few years and have enjoyed the videos would it be possible to make a video on testing diesel injector circuits and waveform. Thanks from s Wales uk
appreciate your watching! I get asked all the time about diesel and the truth is I have never even seen one. I know they are common in the UK but not so much here and especially where I live. I don’t really know much about them.
Matt is there a vidio u have out on the traverse in mentioned thank you
Matt-sma-scanner-danner-diagnios-dan-are the best
Thanks man❤
Thank you for your videos, They are very helpful. In the video you didn't have it on RPM signal. you had it on MPH. I'm confused. please clarify. thanks again.
I believe you are referring to the first video with e P0500 Speed Sensor A Circuit code.
The code refers to speed sensor which reflects vehicle MPH, not RPM. Basically the code means the vehicle computer knows the vehicle must be moving but it isn’t seeing a signal from the speed sensor to determine MPH. It has nothing to do with engine speed- just actual vehicle speed. However we do see MPH on the speedometer but this is because there are two speed sensors. One is for the PCM which has the issue, and the other is for the vehicle’s speedometer in the dashboard which is functioning.
Awesome content!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video 👍
Thank you soo much , wondering what Diagnostic machine your using

Hey, can you please tell me if Autel works with Iveco Daily 2022 vehicles? I have Autel IM508 and Iveco cannot be found in the menu.
Hi Matt. Please help. My car does crank and every sensor is good according to the scanner, but yet there's no spark. What could be the problem.... it's a corsaD z14 XEP engen
My vehicle 2007 subaru forester non turbo no crank and no start, battery is good I change crank sensor & camshaft sensor , starter good , all fuses is good, I change transmission fluid but the 1&3 spark plugs and coil no spark
Wait- are you saying this is a no crank or is it a cranking no start?
At 52:30 regarding the two bad catalytic converters- how do you go about determining the cause of failure and therefore preventing damage to the new catalytic converters?
they wear out anyway like all catalysts eventually do but you want to make sure you don’t have a rich condition with the fuel trim. if your fuel trim is rich you are going to ruin the new car very quickly.
Hello, what test light are you using on the Mazda tribute to check for coil fire? Thanks.
Just a regular incandescent test light. I always check the current draw to make sure it’s 250mA
Sir one request please...
Can you please make new video showing how to upgrade car battery to a higher rating say from 45Ah 12V to 50 or 55Ah?

Help me on Lexus is200 speedometer wiring
Hi Matt, I also have a Autel 808 and I just updated the software system so I’m getting use to it and using for little issues so I recently bought a 2005 X5 4.4i v8 and I use my Autel 808 to scan for codes and I got misfire cylinders which is a easy fix but my big issue is code (P02184) and the temperature sensor is in the red zone as if the vehicle is overheating and the fan isn’t running the upper radiator hose is hot butt the lower hose is cold what do you think could be the issue
You will want to check a wiring diagram and see how the coolant temp sensing is set up. A lot of vehicles have 2 sensors, and your symptoms sounds like you probably have this type of set up because the fans aren’t running despite the gauge temp showing high.
In such vehicles, one temp sensor goes right to the PCM and that one would be working properly because the PCM is reacting normally (not activating fans because temp is normal). The other CTS goes to the gauge only, so the PCM doesn’t react to it, and that one probably has an open. That would explain why you see a false high reading on the gauge but the fans stay off.
@@SchrodingersBox oh ok I might have to have a professional figure it out for me like what I have seen on your videos
Chechk for accumulated debris between condenser and radiator that could result in lower hose cold . This is very common...@@wiltongordon9485
Scotty Kilmer is a great mechanic (not an engineer), stop crapping on his ways of getting things done, it has worked for him for many decades and he's helped thousands of people to learn things about cars.
Scotty Kilmer is sub par compared to the top tier trainers.
I wouldn’t even call him a trainer. “Don’t buy new cars they suck with their jumbo jumbo technology” and “if this is your symptom try changing this part” is hardly training. That’s what every hack already does.
I won’t go off on you only because I love your screen name but I don’t know if he is a great mechanic but he is without question one of the worst technicians in history. He couldn’t diagnose a diaper rash on a baby with sandpaper Pampers b
@@SchrodingersBox true! I was being nice! He is total trash!
Hello ,can any one guide me on how to get the electrical drawing for mark X model GRX 120 YEAR 2008
Is it safe to unplug coils to check for Engine drop. One time I did that and it blew up the ECM.
Blew the pcm???? How can that possibly happen with no amperage through a circuit? it had to have been blown before- how did you confirm the PCM was blown?
lets go!!!
What autel did you use because I have Autel mk808BT pro and I can’t get the live data for (short ft 1) And (short ft 2)
ALL scantools have STFT. Its there. sometimes it’s called other things. try generic mode and it will definitely be there as required by law.
I engine have a Mitsubishi 1.8 16-valve engine and for the last month facing a problem with car stalling suddenly after running beautifully for 20 to 25 km. But after struggling to move at 5 to 10 km speed suddenly picks up speed. this is repeated now after I changed the spark plugs, and the petrol pump replaced. The temperature sensor on water jacket which goes to ECM as per manual need to have voltage of 1.2 v but I get only 0.7 v even with new ones. What shall I do/. Matter urgent
I would check voltage on the throttle position sensor
@@SchrodingersBox
Sir I checked in the close position it is o.75 volts and gradually increasing to 4.9 v. I checked initial position open circuit check.
Every 25 kms I get stalling of engine and moves at 5 to 20 kms/hr speed and after 3 minutes or so engine picks up. Speed.
The coolant temp sensor going to ecu at operating temp as per Mitsubishi data manual reading should be 1.2 v but I am getting 0.7 even after changing new one and I Donot think this is the reason.
Now checking voltage at mas flow sensor. I Donot suspect this.
The PCv valve is ok.
I changed petrol pump as well.
I was suspecting distributor cap crack or fuel pump o/l due to filter clog and this is cleared. Distributed coildiscontinuity at high temperature could be but the car running there is no cooling to this part to come to normal.
If at all reaching operating temp is triggering something in ecu to stall but the car attains operating temp within two minutes .
It looks more on fuel than electrical spark fault.
Some one cut off the diagnostic socket to get code.
I thought 02 sensor heater failure but checked ok
Starting is perfect with half kick start and crankshaft sensor may not be an issue.
I repair all my cars on my own and am mechanical-?electrical engineer.
What else can I do? In tension
the ultra has a scope te other vrom 906 accsept a scope wy a pico ? ( i understand pico is my co to scope also but in a autel training video ? ) autel scope is also verry good and regular used by me
Scotty Kilmer really wants to learn how to diagnose an electric vehicle despite his opinion on them. It’s the future of transportation for America.
Is that right? Well if thats his attitude I do at least respect that. Usually when he deals with something he doesnt understand he just says it sucks and you shouldnt buy it.
@@SchrodingersBox I would recommend the 'James and Kate - The EV team' youtube channel. James and Kate are both mechanics and James works for 'Cleevley Electric Vehicles' as a mobile service mechanic on Ev's. May give you some insight on working on EV's.
Good advice.
One of my viewers Mike has a channel called “The disgruntled mechanic” and he is very much getting into EV’s as well. He plans to only work on those in fact.
What type and model scope are you using on your videos?
The scope is a picoscope 4225 2 channel that was generously donated to me by viewer C5Diag.
Excellent job, bud.👍
Matt-Schrodinger box what Autel scanner do you prefer all around?
I my Autel MS909 is my only Autel product and I love it!!!!
@@SchrodingersBox thank you
@@SchrodingersBox how is it in pricewise to update the subscription once a year?
It has two years subscription and then it’s like $400 I think. However you can still use it without subscription. I haven’t updated mine in maybe 2 years
I didn't think that the shorterm fuel trims would show any number with the engine cold; isn't it the LT trims that retains the last fuel trim when the engine last ran? I also notice that you never use the times 4, times 8 etc on the Autel scanner I also have an Autel but it is the MP808. Also there is a function that I don't understand how to set called the auto trigger; some scanners have a vertical line to lineup the waveforms with, that doesn't seem to be necessary as you are not using it. Do you line up with anything? thank you for any info you can give on that Matt.
I don’t know if any scantool that has an auto trigger, actually. My oscilloscopes have it, but never saw that for a scantool.
@@SchrodingersBox yes the record feature has trigger type; the DTC auto triggers if a dtc is detected. I have used the recording feature of course but never the auto trigger. I have the MAXIPRO MP808 maybe you can check the handbook on line and read it for yourself. There are still some things that I don't understand about it.
Never heard of that- I’ll have to look to see if I have that feature!!
Hi Dr. Matt, I am having a hard time dealing with light diesel engines because there are no fuel trims or just our scanner not taking all the parameters, if there is no fuel trims in diesel engines, is there any others technique like using fuel trims on gasoline that is applicable to light diesel engines? is there a chance would you make a video like this in the future? 🥹
Diesels don't have fuel trims.
@@KLeeson Thank you for the information.
@@KLeeson do you have any suggestions what would i do then?

Sounds like a great diagnoses tool , do i need internet to use it ? Im having problems programming computers cause i don't have enough signal strength , it's almost funny telling a customer i gotta drive his car to the coast to get internet service 😂 sw florida
Hi Matt. I'd like your opinion on wheather or not the HANTEK 6074BE 4 channel scope kit may be any use? It's saying its got the automotive software and leads, 4 channels, etc. At £200 sterling it's a huge amount cheaper than the pico equivalent. As yet I'm very new to scopes and this will be my 1st buy. I've relied on my DMM for diagnostics with my snap on and launch scanners. Any advise on which/why scope I'd be better looking at would so helpful. Thankyou. Stu.
I am familiar with it. It is useful however I find the interface to be VERY unfriendly for automotive. Scaling is a PITA and I really am not such a fan to be honest. It works, but it took me a lot of getting used to it and adapting from standards of virtually every other scope. Now admittedly if it was the first scope I ever used I might have liked it more becaiuse I wouldn't have been accustomed to more standard interfaces on other scopes.
@@SchrodingersBox thanks for your thoughts Matt. I understand where your coming from. I'll give it some thought. 👍🏻. Stu.
Hi Matt. Some research later and I've discovered that the pico 2 channel series doesn't support their automotive software which is big shame. Unfortunately the 4 series are quite a treat at £1500! + leads. A keen eye on ebay for a steal required. I've downloaded your free download and there's some great tips and tricks in there! Shortly to become a QM subscriber too. Thanks again, Stu. 🏴🇬🇧👍🏻
The pico software is separately downloadable and I can tell you I have the automotive software from that download. I actually don’t even use it that much- I normally use the normal software anyway. But you can absolutely download picoscope 7 software for free. In fact you can demo it if you don’t have a scope!!
@@SchrodingersBox well, if it's good enough for the maestro,, it's certainly good enough for me! Choice made. Pico 2 channel it is. Thankyou again for your thoughts and support Matt. Onwards and upwards 👍🏻🇬🇧+🇺🇸= "gets the job done"
