the m2 is basically a better looking slightly more nimble m4 with the same engine (and same horsepower if BMW was being honest) for 20-30K less. great value and a great car. no regrets from me going from the g80 xdrive to my g87.

@@speeddemon311 nah man! as one of my weekenders, the g87s is def an upgrade and more fun than my g80. mines a 6 speed, RWD, smaller and more nimble than my g80 xdrive and almost as fast (will be faster as im currently doing a stage 2)... I actually upgraded to an even faster daily when I sold my g80 and then put a deposit on the g87 bc I wanted a more fun weekender car version of my g80. So for my purposes, absolutely zero regrets going from the g80 to the g87... But I would agree that the g80 xdrive would make a better daily than the g87 mainly bc of xdrive and auto. that car could do it all and with a tune, it'd prob be just as fast as my 911 turbo!

That M240i is running worse than stock. With JB4 map 3, this would be even, and chances are the M240i would win. CarWow already did this same race. Off a dig, the M240i won on a stock map, and the M2 would lightly begin pulling away off a roll. With the map turned on, the M240i won both races.

He ran my stage 1 golf r when he was stock and the golf r would slightly pull. With the racechip, he’s even and sometimes pulls depending on the speed, who gets a little jump, etc. it’s faster with the race chip, just not a lot faster.
but it was 4wheel drive on dig and it couldnt win the race on rolling even
@@JVette01 Needs a proper JB4 or a tune. I've seen these run low 11s with ease, so it shouldn't have any issue getting around a stock M2. Here is a good example of the X3 M40i on a jb4 vs an X3M (also on a map).

With a tune, the G87 M2 will beat the M3/M4 easy in a roll. It's the same engine, just detuned from the factory. When you get an aftermarket tune, that goes out the window.

How did you lose? I beat my buddy's g80 m3 from a dig and we were neck to neck from a 40 roll. ( I have a downpipe and exhaust and racechip - g42 m240i rwd)
This is a RWD model. There's no way you'd beat a G80 from a roll unless you're on some sort of ethanol blend and the G80 is manual, or doesn't know how to race.
Thank you for discussing trap speeds… too many people focus on ET in my opinion. Traps are the best indicator of the difference in speed (it’s correlated with power to weight) between two cars. They take traction out and are usually the best thing to check if you want to see which will be faster in a roll race (60-130, etc.) ET is obviously what happens if you race from street light to street light all day but it’s pretty rare for most people to be able to line up on long straight, and come to a dead stop. Most of the time if you’re lucky you can find a clear space without traffic and do a pull together. It’s usually not so clean.
That said it must be nice to have an area to be able to do pulls like this together. Very cool. Thank you for the comparison. I’m an f30 340i owner but was talking to the wife recently and think I’ll be getting the g87 M2 as a garage car in the next few years. It was always going to be a Cayman GTS… until this car. I think it’s ugly but from what I’ve read (haven’t tested yet) it’s actually on par or better. Being a b58 owner and frequently car modder the idea of a cayman-like chassis with an s58 to fiddle with it too tempting. And can be had with a manual. Just have to decide if 15 years of manual driving nostalgia is worth it over the ZF8. The ZF is a beast of a transmission… I had a b8.5 S4 tuned up and with a tuned DSG and it was a bit faster shifting but over all SUCKED compared to the ZF8. Then the ZF8 on a custom tune is 🤌🏻. I prefer the 50ms slower shift and the infinitely better daily livability.

Here in the UK I’ve seen a new M240 with a piggyback ECU unit costing less than $1000 beat M2, 3 and 4 off the line and in the 1/4 mile. It was because it had xdrive over the other rwd versions. It won by a big margin too!

b58 is great engine but the difference is like a more than 100hp even it is tuned, great video

Yes. I did one run with launch control and one without to give the m240i an advantage
The new M2 I've seen dyno charts saying 470hp to the wheels. So, to the crank is probably mid 500's who knows, but it's strong.
Man it really feels like the new m2 has more than claimed,and it most likely has more than claimed,germans always underrate the hp figures on their cars.
If you look at some of the Dyno videos on the M2, people were getting 475 hp at the wheels. If you take a 10% drivetrain loss, the M2 is putting out about 525 hp at the crank. It ran side by side with an M4 Comp X-drive on a rolling race. BMW is lying about the power. The M2 is rumored to have more hp in 2025 but I’m betting BMW will be stating just the obvious real hp. It’s a monster…well done. I’m glad I have a new 2024 M2 with auto. The auto gears are better suited to the engine than the 6-speed manual.

I agree! He's getting a DP as we speak. However, he doesn't have a real tune yet.
M2 should be about 12s 1/4 mile, and m240i rwd about 12.5s, stock. So probably 2-3 car lengths. With a race chip it should be a lot closer.
M2 is more like high 11s
New m2 gets like a high 11.8 11.7
Carwow did multiple drag races with M2 and always did 12-12.1s

i have the 2023 M240i xdrive but my car seems a lot quicker than the M240i you tested there. Probably xdrive makes a big difference here.

Wtf is this nonsense? That's a rwd m240i. There's not an m2 that can beat the xdrive m240i from a dig. I know it's a rwd because in the few shots where you can see the back of the m240i (good job trying to hide it) it is missing the xdrive badge on the left side.
edit: and before you claim that it is an xdrive @4:55 you can clearly see that it's a RWD.

M240 all wheel will blow the doors off of the M2 off the line but will lose the 1/4 mile by a hair
