I can watch them now, but at the time although I wasn't 2013 like KArmy we were still feeling the fallout well and truly in 2014.... I'm just so proud of them...

In my opinion, their early songs like No More Dream, Bulletproof Pt. 2, Danger....they're all fire! Danger is one of the songs that got me into k-pop, and is still one of my favorite songs of all time. Can't wait until you see that one.

Young BTS are the best
They worked so hard for such a long time before they even debuted. They were fantastic from the get go! i recommend watching the dance practice for this song. Actually, if you like dancing, you might wanna watch dance practices for everything, cuz you get to see more of the choreography than you get to see in the mv's. Watching both is key though, cuz the MV's are so good too, and get messages across.
Yeah, I'm kinda surprised no one recommended getting going on early stuff, but you're there now.
I have never found a song that isn't great. There might be some that don't suit me quite as well, but they're all good.

To be completely honest as much as I love all of BTS' catalog it was their 1st 4 albums that made me ARMY. Those tracks took me back to my youth growing up in Vegas in the 80s/90s/00s listening to West Coast Hip-Hop, R&B, & even old school boy band songs.

For their filmed rehearsal they put on tshirts with their names because they are brand new and the directors don't know their names yet. So after their filmed rehearsal they have their debut. It was called a showcase. They had a small audience. No one had seen them before. And remember they are having their debut on this day at this time because someone else cancelled so they called in BTS. They performed 2 songs. "Bulletproof" and "No More Dream". You get to see a little bit of their performance on this "documentary" video. A note. You will see Jin crying after the first dress rehearsal. It's important to note ...yes, they are talking about their dream, but more important...they are challenging the youth of Korea to think about their dream. The parents chose what they wanted their children to do or become. They were never taught to dream. This is one reason BTS became so popular...they were inspirational to the new generation. They sang about being yourself, thinking for yourself, taking care of yourself...not only physically, but also emotionally. They spoke of...loving yourself. That had never been shared in a song before. They sang about everyone being equal no matter
their gender, their age, their income, their education level, their religion, or their beliefs. They shared their dreams and hopes to encourage others to do the same thing. Find RM's eloquent speech to the U.N. He was very inspiring. His message is why BTS became so loved and respected.

To know BTS, is to know their history & evolution. Glad you went back to the beginning. If you're interested, there is a great 8pt episodes documentary called "BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star," it is a collab between HYBE/BIG HIT and Disney+. It came out early last year. It's really fascinating hearing them share their memories, both good and bad. It's on Disney+. 💜
Hey there... glad you're enjoying the tour thru BTS. Keep in mind that there are now A LOT of new Army since their Grammy performance, and since people discovered them via their recent solo albums. So many are more into their recent stuff, so it's what they tend to recommend, until they venture into their older stuff.
But I'm so glad you thought to do it on your own, as it's almost must. 😃 Their journey is an amazing one, and a beautiful story of strength, courage, resilience, brotherhood, and love.

I think my favorite oldie from them is War of Hormone. Jk was still rapping a bit, but the song definitely had a lighter feel. They weren’t trying to be as hardcore rap/hip hop and it was fun.
They are forever adding to their talents and expanding they never leave anything behind they just add new things that get mixed in with the old. So the sounds you hear in one period will be heard in other tracks in other albums so every album will have newer sounds and older sounds.
American Hustle Life was a tv reality show theydid with Warren G and Collio to learn more about hip hop.

The way I always explain baby BTS to people is that yes, their stylists had some crimes to answer for 😅 BUT…the music and performances were LIT from day one and had an actual meaning and message. That is what made them special from the start.
I still bump No More Dream and a lot of their early songs. I loved the message especially, it came at a time it was needed for the young people in SK. There is huge pressure there from parents to be the best academically and get into the right colleges. Students study their whole lives to take the test to determine what college they can go to, when the school day ends SK students aren't usually done most go to a secondary school in the evenings called a Hagwon (aka a cram school). There is so much pressure on SK kids from parents and society that the country has the highest suicide rates for young people in the world. It was a big statement BTS was making out the gate.
Yeah they were originally supposed to be a rap/hip hop group. The group was built around RM. They added Suga and JHope. Then they decided they needed vocalists too so they added Jk and Jin. Then V. Then Jimin.
They were going to make Jungkook be a rapper for a bit!
They look back at these first videos and laugh at themselves, mostly their hair (in good fun) 😂

Watch them cook. Watch them at the U.N. and White House. Watch away!!! Sail away!! Anyway you want. In any order. On any timeline. When I found them...I didn't know anything. I watched everything at random. And after watching it in no particular order... I figured it out. They are The Best Group ever! Of any group ever created. In my opinion. The best dancers, without a doubt.
The nicest human beings. No ego. So humble. Watch them enter the military with all their hair cut off......and so on and so on. We've watched it all.

Starting from the beginning will give a better idea of where they started and hw they have evolved. Take one album at a time andlook at the explanations for each song. There is a BTS Discgraphy guide that should help you. There music was always good.

It’s really good! Unfortunately they don’t have an updated version but it covers most of their career.

You need to watch American Hustle Life. They had to beg people to come to their concert, out on the street handing out flyers. Talk about speaking it into existence, now there is NEVER an empty seat at a concert!!!

This is why the music industry was shaking in their boots from the moment they hit the scene. They were teenagers with a broke ass label and cobbled together improvised and experimental training and THIS is the caliber of performance they were starting out with. Jungkook was just 15 here. Jungkook, V and Jimin were all still in high school, and RM and j-hope had just graduated. It was nothing but up for them from here in terms of their skills and art. Not only that - they were speaking truth to power and challenging societal norms in their conservative country, and in KPop no less, which was known at the time for largely vacuous lyrics. They were hip hop too! Almost no one was doing real, hard hitting hip hop in their industry, and true to hip hop they were writing their own music with deep social commentary. They were something entirely new in S Korea in 2013. S Korea has the greatest pressure on students and highest suicide rate in the 10-19 age range in the world. This song is addressing this important issue and they literally were saving lives, encouraging kids to live for their own dreams and not just mindlessly fulfilling expectations only to wake up in 10-20 years to a life they hate, or worse, not even make it through the pressures of school alive.
If you are starting from the beginning to see their journey (which I love and am always here for) PLEASE do not neglect their B-Sides. If you only do the MV singles, you miss a lot of the picture of what they were capable of right from the start. Just listen to the albums, or at least a couple B-Sides as lyric videos. PLEASE!!

From the second album O!RUL8,2? other than the MV single N.O, you can listen to We On, Coffee, Cypher Pt 1, Attack on Bangtan and Paldogansan.
From the third album Skool Luv Affair, other than the MV singles Boy In Luv and Just One Day you can also listen to Tomorrow, Cypher Pt 2, Spine Breaker and Jump.
From the fourth album Dark & Wild, just listen to the album, it's a masterpiece.
After that starts the HYYH/Most Beautiful Moment in Life album series and I just recommend listening to the whole albums from this point forward. BTS makes concept albums. They all are storytelling and have themes and tracks are in a storytelling order. Skipping around is not the whole picture and you lose a lot of the magic of their art.

From the first song BTS showed what they would be.
No more dream is a criticism of the Korean school and social system, since children are kept for years studying to prepare for the Suneung or university entrance test. The better they do they can get into the best universities, even in the song they mention SKY which are the acronyms of the 3 main universities.
They go to school there and then they study at home, library or in institutes but they spend almost the whole day studying; they measure the children by the global place they occupy in the school grade of their school.
That's not all, parents intervene too much in the decision of what they want their children to study and many parents want them to be public servants, which is mentioned in the song.
Really BTS came as "a rebel", lol, asking young people what their dreams are and motivating them to pursue them, that is, to live their life as they wish.

BTS was ORIGINALLY supposed to be a Rapp group. That's why you see J. K. rapping in the earlier years but then BigHit knew the group needed more and therefore came Jin, V and JIMIN. You should react to the Rise of Bangtan. It's a fanmade series with 21 episodes wich follows BTS from pre-debut untill a few years later. It's really well made and it shows where they came from and how hard they work to become as big as they are right now. The series is really great and very addictive!
