I'm looking at buying something to replace my 8 year old Suzuki Celerio. Like the Picanto, it has a robotised manual gearbox. With mine, you can drive it in full auto-mode (this is how wifey drives) or in a semi-automatic mode where you can tap the gear lever up or down to select the gear you want. Is this how the Kia box works too?
Before I bought the Suzuki, I owned a manual 1.0L manual Picanto but the previous model. I never really took to the car & was frankly glad to see the back of it. My gripes were the lack of space (fixed with newer models) & its fuel economy. I drive like the Pope's mother & try as I might, I couldn't get it to average more than 56 mpg. This was worse than the Daihatsu Sirion it replaced (62 mpg) & the Celerio (70 mpg). If you drive your Picanto really, really sensibly, what kind of mileage can you achieve or is 57 - 58 mpg the absolute best it will do?
    Thanks

I’m currently looking at this car but have read reports about it not being a good automatic car? I currently have a 2010 Auto that I’ve not had any issues with. Is this an OK car as an automatic? Thanks.

I think the negativity is because it is basically an "assisted manual". There is a manual gearbox but there are parts doing the gear changing for you, hence no parking slot on the selector. I'm looking at a new one at the minute and trying to see videos of it in action

Not a torque converter auto then?? Sounds like it could be future trouble with those converted manual boxes with clutch and servos!!!

Wifey bought her Toyota Aygo with a robotised manual gearbox in 2005 & it performed flawlessly for 11 years.
She replaced the Aygo with a Suzuki Celerio, also with a robotised manual, in 2016 which has been brilliantly reliable. I liked the car so much I bought one for myself!
Wifey drives her's uniquely in auto-mode. I tend to use mine mainly in manual-mode but if I'm stuck in slowly moving traffic, I'll flick it into auto to make things easier. Both cars happily return 70 mpg & have done consistently for the last 8 years...and of course that's the big advantage over a conventional torque converter auto.

Is this car suitable for an occasional motorway trip, or does it lack power ?

      Thanks for watching the video.
It's happy maintaining motorway speeds as long as you don't expect scintillating acceleration.

Hi, currently looking at this model. How much does it cost you on avg to fill the tank? Many thanks

Thanks for watching the video. It’s difficult to say as it would depend on your average MPG, also this car was only borrowed for the days filming so I didn’t fill it up but at the time of filming I understand it was taking about £30 to fill it up, however I imagine it will cost more now as it was filmed just after the 3rd lockdown lifted when petrol prices were still very low in the U.K.

I have a 2018 3 spec 1.25 litre with 4 spd torque converter and am lucky to get 35 mpg.
I picked up a courtessy car from KIA GWR and it showed just 28 mpg on the display.
Manufacturer mpg figures are as crooked as dieselgate and reviewers are complicit.

The New 3 with the 1.0L automatic has a completely different and more efficient gearbox combined with a very efficient 3 cylinder engine. The combination of these two factors is what is giving him 57 MPG in this video, no wonder they're holding their value well on the used market, along with the i10 1.0L premium auto. It gets led DRL, projector headlights, heated wheel and front seats but misses out on the parking sensors, electric folding mirrors and the 6 speakers. Both great cars at around £16,500 each.

Is it jerky? Also please can you make a video of you driving around?

With it being an automated manual gearbox it isn't as smooth as a normal auto box and the gear changes can be slower but it is perfectly suitable for a town car.
I only had this car for a day unfortunately but I will see if I can source one to show you how it drives.

Is Kia picanto mark 3 reliable?

    • @rolyswheels

Yes, I have found these cars to be very reliable. Kia always comes out highly in reliability rankings too. Obviously there can always be the exceptions to the rule however generally I find these cars very reliable.
