Make no mistake about what this video is, it's an information dump. As I alluded to in this video the script for a potential, major sanity guide was in the works but sort of evolved into what you see here so I can totally understand not really digging this one this time around. That being said, we still do cover very important topics and the sanity spectrum portion of the video is something I'm certain many never knew about so there ya go!
Also, OF COURSE there are exceptions, character specific sanity mechanics, varying sanity gates for varying characters and more. Did you want to spend 7 million years watching this video?! We have guides on all of that separately for your viewing pleasure so... go view them for your pleasure! :D
A far more refined sanity guide will come soon and in that one we will discuss stages of sanity restoration; Early, mid and late game mechanics that'll keep us sane!

I just want to add that this also serves as a useful batch of information for those few times where you may want to force yourself into insanity for whatever reason (like say to get an early shadow manipulator or Meaty Effigy.)

@@maggiemagz5519 Why is Wortox fucked? Wortox should be punching every butterfly he see's. Collect lots of souls and butteflies. Then just go pick Cactus. The health lost from picking them is easily replenished.

Still new to the game. Didn't understand why the 'shrinking brain' running out kept leading to me dying at first, but your sanity guide helped me out there haha. Also, the dread of seeing those nightmare hands approaching with a creepy music box in the background and finally putting out my fire for the first time was something else. 0-0
Altough i have been playing this game for years and know pretty much all these things from these guides.

Cooked monster meat is still more beneficial than monster lasagna.
Glad someone made a mod to get rid of the screen effects when insane, really hurt my eyes when staying insane for long periods of time.
You can turn off screen distortion in the settings
Having gone through 215 days, I can say for myself I was fighting off at least 3 terror beaks every 5 minutes

Insanity is the number one cause of death in my game.
I started to go insane and I almost died then found a bunch of flowers. Voices started to dissipate and sanity started coming back. If u done mushrooms before it felt like I was coming down from a trip.

OK, the story behind this is that I decided to start of a new world on my own in don’t starve together. When I joined, there was a catcoon in front of me. It then upchucked a pinecone. So, I decided to feed it a that pine cone. After that,It dropped a different item which I’m pretty sure it was grass. This continued on for 10 minutes. Oh, and also it makes a noise when you give it an item

Can we take the time to talk about the logic behind shadow creatures. They can get wet which means they are a real thing and not your insanity, but at the same time, only you can see them and no other mob. So, do all of the mobs, other than the enlightenment orb things, have some sort of an agreement on not to kill them? Or is there lore explaining that?
The sanity volume limited mod is gods gift.

I've played the game for a while but wanted to check if I missed anything, this is definitely useful since I tend to play as Willow (80 less maximum sanity)
Not sure if the shadow amulet was released before or after the release of this video. But i think it’s good information for players that wish to farm nightmare fuel at will without going into the ruins during a nightmare cycle.
The shadow amulet instantly drops your sanity to 0 when equipped. This makes farming nightmare fuel quite convenient. It also regains your sanity when unequipped.
This game just puts new players in traumatic moments
Going Insane is definitely the most dangerous thing, but it can lead to greater things like Beard Hair(If your not Wilson) and Nightmare Fuel, since both of these can help craft some of the most powerful Items, know how to kite Shadow Creatures and Eat Jerky and Cooked Green Mushrooms while wearing anything that helps with Sanity, or even sleep if your in dire need of Sanity and even health by sleeping in a tent.

I play Wormwood so i'm constantly replanting trees my teammates chop down so my sanity is always high
raw green caps take 50 sanity, but if you cook them you will get 15 sanity , so is the cap that takes you the most sanity but also gives you the most sanity if cooked, also is pretty good to have raw blue caps for health and after you eat those you can refill your sanity with cooked green caps, after my sanity drained while beating deerclops i ate 4 coocked green caps and my sanity was full, and i dont uderstand why pro players use blue caps for health and cooked blue caps for sanity because cooked green caps give more sanity and they take less hp,maybe because you find blue caps easier?like the blue mushroom biome in the caves
This game is one of the best
Fun fact: A Shadow Creature that is able to be seen but not yet aggressive towards the players can be aggroed indirectly with the Weather Pain. This can be achieved by using it on some structure or creature which is on the other side of the Shadow Creature. When the projectile is launched, it is able to interact with the Shadow Creature before hitting the other target. This causes it to be aggressive towards the player for a short time.

I find having your sanity dip too low isn't a super big deal unless you're in the middle of fighting something else, the crawling horrors aren't that difficult to deal with, but if your sanity drops down below ten you are in serious danger, the shadow creatures start to become very powerful, which is even worse considering most characters can't pawn the monsters off on something else
So *that's* what happened to my friend Matthew when I had bacon for breakfast today!

The first time me and my friend played dst we didnt know anything about the game, so we thought IT would be smart and start in spring. And for weeks we got insane all the time and depended on blue and green mushrooms.

If you have glimmer goop
Eat it on a night you will not have any troubles on, just a normal night.
Eat it then heal your sanity with glimmer cause he can still heal you even if you have no sanity items on you and you are just standing near your fire.
*Needs to figure out how to keep sanity from plummenting because for summer I'm going into the caves and I didn't manage to find a tam o'shanter or eyebrella*

I always help along a nice bace goi’n on a diverse server(usually bacon or honey) and like 70% dies to sanity, and me being a wormwood or wurt player, can’t heal from food or meat.

As a Wendy player, I'd say the biggest hit to my sanity is definitely Abigail. I've hit hard zero sanity before forgetting I was already losing it before I summoned her
