  • Klaus Voormann is a German Grammy Award-winning artist, musician, and record producer. He first met the Beatles in the early 1960s in Hamburg, and remained close with the band until the end of their career.
    He designed artwork for many bands including The Beatles (Revolver) and The Bee Gees. As a musician, Voormann was the bassist for Manfred Mann from 1966 to 1969, a member of Lennon's Plastic Ono Band and a session musician for three of the former members of The Beatles, Yoko Ono, Lou Reed, Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman and many others.
    In this interview Klaus discusses his time in the Plastic Ono band, working on singles such as 'Instant Karma' and albums 'John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band', 'Imagine' and 'Walls and Bridges', as well as Phil Spector, Yoko Ono and the other former Beatles.

    His bass playing on John Lennon's 'Plastic Ono Band' album is really solid. Also, his artwork used for the front cover of Revolver is one of the greatest album covers ever.

    Klaus is awesome. Thank God he's still with us -- one of the last in the true inner circle around the Beatles. I have a signed copy of one of his books; it's one of my most prized possessions.

    Klaus has always been an absolute gentleman, never mind a masterful musician. Furthermore, for a man with such an impressive career, Klaus has always been refreshingly devoid of ego. Huge thanks for sharing these.

    Ohhhh this man, have followed him for many many years, his drawings, covers, participations with John, George, it is incredible that he has been with them since Hamburg, I think it will be the last one of those years. god bless him.

    I wonder how many people know that Klaus is a fantastic visual artist. In The Beatles' early days he designed/drew the album cover for the Revolver album. (Look it up.) Since then he has continued to create wonderful art. Much of it is on his website.

    I love listening to Klaus's stories. He appears so laid back and kind. I used to think when he was rehearsing with John for "How do You Sleep" - I thought Klaus looked so stoned- Either stoned or near asleep. I actually watched that video a few times because they all looked so laid back and all were so talented in their part. I love his graphic design's. He's very talented and a good and loyal friend and so interesting. I love how he described Yoko's singing-that was funny. I always thought the same thing about Yoko but after watching some of the studio video's she seemed nice. I don't think she took John away from the Beatles-I doubt anyone could take John away from anything he was doing.

      Musicians that were also visual artists understand and admire Yoko and respect her talent: John Lennon, David Bowie, and Klaus Voormann. They have a better grasp of the concepts of her avant garde art. Yoko's music was way ahead of its time. Her voice is perfect for the kind of music she does.

      Samuel Feynman Tribute page Yoko is by far one of the very worst singers, performers, and artists of all time. John stupidly promoted her and he'll be remembered as much for his manic personality, his decline, his weird relationship to Mother, and all his lying (always trying to take credit away from Paul), as he will as a genius singer songwriter (though a tier below Paul as everyone is now saying) in his own right. John was great, but to put him as equal or greater than Paul is that same ole unhealthy bias (not fact) and cultish delusion that's always been attached to sociopath and hyper political John.

      La Co .......I’d never before noticed your comment. John was many things but at least he wasn’t a spotlight hog, something Paul has *always* been! I loved John and (like George) his solo material was a damned sight better than Paul’s too imo. Although John has been gone 40 years, his Net Worth is on a par with Paul’s. At around a billion (not sure if it’s dollars or pounds) but mighty impressive regardless.

    klaus is a master, and so humble. when he talks about closing his eyes and losing body awareness when john is playing (in the latter parts), is how mystics describe deeper states of meditation. few musicians can reasonably claim to have ascended to such a spiritual level of musical proficiency. lennon certainly could've. i know how much klaus loves paul also, it is clear, but i was upset watching the video of him and paul at hogs hill (ua-cam.com/video/YhZZiMOy334/v-deo.html). paul is so plainly full of himself and condescending with klaus. even more annoying is his "sense of humor" which has obviously been incubated in the sycophantic environments he dwells in. the whole video he is either showing off or talking about how great he is -- at one point i think he even begins to think he's better than ringo at drums -- looking for others' approval to play ringo's part. i'd love to see paul try to be "cute and funny" like that in a situation where people didn't know him - he'd probably get his ass kicked.

      yeh it bothered me when he showed such a lack of respect to ringo, paul cant come close to playing drumslike ringo, he is full of himself i am sad to say, but thatis just one part ofhim, he can also be a good guy, but klaus is more aligned with lennon i think

      You guys must have some axe to grind as far as McCartney is concerned. A complete mis-reading of the hogs hill video. I see no condescension toward Klaus. Unlike you guys, it appears that Klaus genuinely likes McCartney. Also McCartney doesn't criticize Ringo's drumming. And he is obviously joking when he says "eat your heart out Ringo." I'll have to agree with Baobabs when it comes to you guys.

    • @tubergetrude333
      @tubergetrude333 7 років тому

      Maybe you are right that he was joking about Ringo's drumming.(That was my nitpick.) I'm sure it wasn't meant to hurt. Why are some of us (me included) so sensitive about every little word these guys say, especially Mccartney now thatJ and G are dead? Thanks.

    i'm sure yoko ono lennon is a fine person. and she's a somewhat innovative artist and original thinker. but she's NO singer or songwriter. her screeching and screaming was horrendous and why lennon demanded she become a singer in his band is beyond comprehension.
    thanks klaus. you're an excellent artist and a fine musician. i guess your friendship with the pre-fame beatles really paid off. and nothing makes me happier. just too bad astrid couldn't reap the same benefits.
