What about Acts 2:29 and 2:34 where it says David is dead and not ascended into the heavens, which is spoken by Peter after the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Also, Luke 16 (the rich man and Lazarus) could be a parable and therefore, would not be taken literally.
Peter is saying David has not ascended into the heavens as opposed to Jesus (Acts 1). His focus is showing how Jesus is both the son of David and the Lord of David as evidenced by his quotation of Psalm 110. When Peter says that David's tomb is still with them, he is pointing to the fact that David has not resurrected, as Jesus has. So, souls being released from Sheol with the ascension of Jesus does not mean that they have resurrected. Instead, it reveals Christ's victory over the dead and bringing forth his "gifts" to the father as his captives, referring to those he released with his ascension from Sheol (Ephesians 4:8-10).
This is fantastic! Needs way more views - you have a real gift of teaching! Follow up questions: Why do so many OT saints not want to go to Sheol? Sheol seems fantastic for those who are righteous? So many OT saints are begging to not go to Sheol.. why?
Thank you! Perhaps OT saints were referencing Sheol as the realm of the dead and didn’t want to die, in general. That would be my educated guess but I’m not totally sure why they didn’t want to go. Although David does seem to want to go to Sheol to see his son one day.
Because no one in their right mind wants to die. The only comfort that some people had was that they would be again with their loved ones who were dead. However this may not indicate consciousness in death for various reasons. All in all the overwhelming majority of scripture seems to indicate that death is like sleep, A long period of non consciousness Until you are awoken by the messiah in the resurrection. After being awoken you are judged, either To keep your life forever in the kingdom of god to the ages of the age, Or you are sentenced into gehenna/hell. I cannot say with complete confidence what Gehenna, However the text Seems to portray it as a fire which will Potentially painfully consume and destroy all those in it. In revelation, John calls this the second death, that is to say the second time you die.
I personally believe that the old testament nonbelievers, and other people who never knew God are given a second chance on earth during Satan’s Little season. This is called the second resurrection.
you are wrong, after death we still go to Sheol or Hades. It is a waiting place until we are judged. If you're name is not written in the Lamb's book of Life, then you go to a second death, the Lake of Fire. Read Revelations 20 12-15
Hi sir, regarding the verse you quoted passage of Eph 4. When the verse said "...he led captivity captive' does it refer to the 24 Elders as others believe? I hope you got an answer to this. Thank you and Thanks be to God!
There are lots of different interpretations of that passage and it is highly debated. The context is that Paul quotes Psalm 68 in verse 8. The original picture of psalm 68 refers to God as a conquering king. And after God has beaten his enemies in a war, there is a picture of God as king walking up a mountain with a line of captives from his war. And as his prisoners come up this mountain, they are given as gifts to God as the spoils of his war. So In the original picture it is a picture of God as king who receives men he has captured as gifts to his kingdom. But Paul adds on to this picture when he quotes it here in Ephesians 4. He changes the verbs from God receiving gifts of men to God giving gifts. In my opinion, Paul is referring to the offices Christ has given to the church as conquering king (apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastor-teachers). Again, there are many interpretations about the captives but that is my personal opinion from the context.
Revelation 20:14 can be interpreted that those judged to the lake of fire are either destroyed (annihilationism) or the lake of fire is an place of eternal judgment (eternal torment). I made a video comparing these two views: Annihilationism vs Eternal Torment | Is Hell Eternal? ua-cam.com/video/O3NQILqHHDw/v-deo.html
Revelation 20:12-13 seems to indicate that there will be a resurrection for the wicked before the great white throne. This corresponds to Jesus' teaching regarding the resurrection of the judged (John 5:29).
@@Theology101AndrewKim right, but what I’m saying is that there isn’t any verse to indicate that there will be a new body for the unbeliever/those coming from hades, since the new body is a reward for the one in Christ who receives everlasting life. I see. That would be an argument from an annihilationism perspective. Those who subscribe to hell as eternal judgment would say that unbelievers are resurrected and continue to exist, in torment, in the lake of fire. I made a video comparing these two views: ua-cam.com/video/O3NQILqHHDw/v-deo.html

The lake of fire, mentioned only in Revelation 19:20 and 20:10, 14-15, is the final hell, the place of eternal punishment for all unrepentant rebels, both angelic and human (Matthew 25:41). It is described as a place of burning sulfur, and those in it experience eternal, unspeakable agony of an unrelenting nature (Luke 16:24; Mark 9:45-46). Those who have rejected Christ and are in the temporary abode of the dead in hades/sheol have the lake of fire as their final destination.
