    I've been a Pryor fan since I was a kid in the 70s. I saw all of his movies in the the theatre. This is from Live on the Sunset Strip. His comeback after his Burn accident. The Prison movie Richard is talking about with Gene Wilder is "Stir Crazy"(1980) Directed by Sidney Poitier. A comedy classic!! A must watch is "Richard Pryor in Concert"(1979) it is the best stand-up film of all time.

    The first time I saw Richard Pryor on TV, he was performing the Rumpelstiltskin routine. Over 50 years ago. My dad nearly fell out of his chair, he was laughing so hard.

    This clip is from "Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip" - an epic stand-up comedy film released in 1982. In a sense, a comeback performance after recovering from setting himself on fire in 1980. There are more clips easily found on UA-cam - definitely worth checking out. Brilliant and brutal. He and Gene Wilder did a string of buddy movies in the '70's. They were both massive talents at the height of their careers during that time. Gene is in the Live on Sunset Strip film as well. This may be your first reaction to Richard Pryor - please don't let it be you last!

    You gentlemen have absolutely no idea the world Prior came out of. Society has changed so much .This special was later in his career he had been horrifically burned and this was his comeback. The first night he faltered but the audience loved him so much they cheered him anyway. You can hear women telling him it’s ok baby we love you. Those of us that grew up with him ad Carlin well they were important figures in our psyches . ☮️

    That's from his 1982 concert film "Richard Pryor: Live On The Sunset Strip"......it was shown in the theaters. Some friends and I went to see it......and were frying on acid...we laughed quite loudly, I'm sure! (My much younger, much wilder days).
    So funny, covering a wide variety of subjects. He ended with a segment referencing when he supposedly caught himself on fire as a result of smoking cocaine, a couple of years earlier (Supposedly with ether as the element to make it smokable).....he revealed later that he was so distraught because of his addiction, he tried to commit suicide by dousing himself in vodka and lighting himself on fire..... immediately changing his mind and began to run down the street!

    Theres a reason for 2 life sentences, or 3. Cause with all the appeals they'll file over the years, if he, for some reason beats 1 charge, he still has another life sentence.

    • @johnw8578
      @johnw8578 9 місяців тому +5

      In most states, Life means eligible for parole in 20 or 25 years, so triple life would mean 75 years if stacked or at least means very unlikely for parole.

    • @darrinlindsey
      @darrinlindsey 9 місяців тому

      Multiple life sentences means that the person murdered multiple people. A life sentence for each crime. When life sentences are given, in state court, there's usually a stipulation that it's not eligible for parole.

  • @darrinlindsey

    Are you guys aware that Richard started his face on fire once? I think he was attempting to freebase, and it blew up in his face. He was found running down a street, trying to call for help. He tells the story in one of his routines, after he recovered.

  • @thereallyst
    @thereallyst 9 місяців тому +1

    A life sentence has an obligation of the defendant to serve a minimum of 15 to 25 years before they are eligible for parole. A multiple life sentence is saying that the person has to serve those "required" years all in a row, which depending on how old the person is, means it will be their natural life or until they are so old they most likely won't be a threat to society anymore....

    Richard Pryor is the reason Dave Chappelle sounds foolish proclaiming himself to be the greatest of all time. At most, Dave could consider himself peer-level comedian to Richard. ...which let's be clear, that's a claim basically NO comedian could ever credibly make. You don't just announce to the world that you're "better than Richard Pryor at standup comedy". ...Which is exactly what saying "I'm the G.O.A.T. " translates to. That's ridiculous. You don't gain credibility making a statement like that. You lose it. Not to mention, as broad as Dave's audience is, Richard's was an even MORE complete cross section of races and ages.

    There's a question about reincarnation here. "I didn't understand that." by the one on the left, your right. I understand reincarnation.. Sweet thing is, humans "worry" about punishments, but it doesn't exist. "Coming back." is very hard to spot. I'll leave it at that.
